The movie was alright, I guess. A little bit of fighting, but honestly? Not enough tension to keep me on the edge of my seat. Still, it was fine.
I really hope they make a fourth part. They probably will, right? 🙂 But if they do, can they please actually make it feel like the game? Because the fourth installment is hands down the best one out there. 👍
It felt kind of weird that they didn't bring back characters from the second game. Like, where was Jill Valentine? She was such a badass in the second one, lol. And what happened to those other girls... did they just die off or something? 🤷
And man, the music in this thing 🙏
Every single The Walking Dead movie always nails the ending, though the whole clone subplot felt a bit over the top for me. 😁
Anyway, I'm counting down the days until part four. ☕

I have to agree with him on one point: if this is considered the best part of the trilogy, it’s only because it actually attempts to focus on the plot and character development. It’s still pretty flimsy when you compare it to the films it’s clearly ripping off, but it represents a massive step up from the previous installment. That being said, it's still nowhere near the gold standard for video game adaptations (Silent Hill remains number one in my book).

man...
fine, I'll just take that as your personal taste, but personally, I don't see how the third one could even be remotely okay...

the first one was actually a decent little romp; it followed the plot reasonably well, had a decent twist, and the ending was predictable and totally in line with the vibe of Resident Evil 4...
nothing brilliant, nothing crazy, just some fun trash you can easily zone out to...

but then this later stuff...
man, it looks to me like the directors were just tripping over themselves because Milla wanted to star in it, so they built the entire scripts for 2 and 3 just to force her character forward—like she’s this absolute goddess, totally insane, perfect, amazing, blah blah blah...

hey...
seriously, what the hell? what does any of this have to do with anything? did everyone just completely forget WHAT IT WAS?? SURVIVAL HORROR!!
while the first one kind of stuck to the recipe—you know, she's gonna bolt, but even she gets wrecked at the end, people run and die like idiots just like they should—this just turned into some retarded comedy...
in the second one, she’s squaring off with Nemesis, crushing helicopters, killing people with telekinesis, tossing motorcycles through an entire church, blah blah blah... honestly, watching it is exhausting. It's supposed to be "gore-heavy," and it's IMPLIED that everything living is getting slaughtered... there's zero survival here, just mindless chaos and that's it. Wow, they even KILLED her off, only to show two minutes later that it doesn't matter because she's so overpowered she can't even stay dead.

And even Mila-Fantasy, which peaked in the third one, where the directors clearly ran out of ways to worship her character, so they just made a MILLION more of them. Then in the fourth, she'll probably use an army of clones to wreck Umbrella, slaughter 6 BILLION zombies, find some cat to hang out with so all 300 million Millas can blow up with him and repopulate the planet so everyone is cool and happy again, and yeah, Mila saved the world.

But putting all that Mila nonsense aside, let's look at the third one—to me, it’s got the most brain-dead script and execution out of the whole lot. Just awful...

I mean, five *5!!! years have passed, and everything looks worse than after a nuclear apocalypse (if they'd actually included one, maybe it would make sense), but everything looks like three centuries went by. Total nonsense, like that fight at the start, and the rest just boils down to intense clichés—how everyone is such a sweetheart, how a character who gets bitten will obviously keep it a secret instead of just shooting themselves in the head right then and there, how the bad guy is so bad his dad is Bush, and how the Umbrella boss is this big shot who uses a "Just Do It" ad to promote Nike, basically explaining how Umbrella is actually the future Nike corporation that conquered the world with bionic sneakers, yay.
And then, of course, we get our hero who can be controlled via satellite, fly, use telekinesis, whatever, along with a bunch of evil zombie kids who kill everything except the hero and some innocent little kids heading to the promised land of Alaska, which is apparently too far away for the virus to reach...

a true masterpiece of screenwriting and acting, really... 😂

Wait, was that the one where the trailer says something like... darkness is going to swallow the light? Or something along those lines?

Honestly, you guys are overthinking it when you go to see movies like this.
The plot is secondary to the action anyway.
If you're looking for deep plots and heavy drama, go watch Mr. Brooks and leave this stuff alone.

Good grief, it’s like that woman who went to see Batman and then complained about how unrealistic everything was, LOL!

I didn't say that Extinction was a great movie. What I said was that, in my opinion, it’s the best installment of the trilogy. Here is my reasoning: when Anderson was writing the first film, he took the assignment far too seriously. Because of that, the end result sits in this awkward middle ground—it isn't quite ridiculous or bad enough to be considered "trash," yet it isn't actually good enough to be called a good film. Regardless, as the start of the series, it works well enough.

*Extinction* was a subpar film, feeling less like a cinematic adaptation and more like *Commando* dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Honestly, that wouldn't have been a dealbreaker if this were just a standard action series, but when you're watching a *Resident Evil* movie, you expect at least a shred of survival horror. Instead, Paul W. S. Anderson completely gutted that atmosphere by turning Alice (Milla Jovovich) into a generic superhero. Her confrontation with Nemesis was so desperate and poorly executed that it nearly derailed the entire production. Despite its glaring flaws, the movie remains strangely watchable for some bizarre reason.

And this will come later...
It honestly looks to me like the directors are just absolutely thrilled to have Milla on board. It feels like they specifically engineered the entire scripts for the second and third installments just to force her character into the spotlight.

It’s an undeniable fact: since Milla is essentially Paul W. S. Anderson's future wife, she’s obviously going to be the center of attention. That was a major sticking point for me too, particularly during the second installment. However, by the third film, Anderson finally introduced enough supporting characters to pull some of the spotlight away from Alice. If we do end up getting a fourth part—which seems inevitable—I would personally love to see the focus shift away from her. Word on the street is that this might actually happen; Ali Larter mentioned that the producers want to set the fourth and final film in Alaska, featuring her in the lead role without Milla.

Even Mila-Fantasy, which peaked during that third installment, reached a point where the directors clearly had no idea how to capitalize on her character's success. Instead of doing something meaningful, they just churned out a trillion sequels. Now, in the fourth one, they’re planning to have her lead an entire army of clones to smash through everything with an umbrella.

🤣 I don't see that happening. Honestly, Paul W. S. Anderson just doesn't have the creative vision or the massive budget required to pull off a project of that scale.

It’s been five years since the events of the film, yet everything looks even more devastated than it did following a nuclear catastrophe—which, frankly, would have at least provided some semblance of logic to the setting. Instead, the world looks like only about 300 grams of time has passed. It is just complete, utter nonsense. You have this intense fight sequence right at the beginning, but once that's over, the entire movie devolves into nothing but heavy-handed clichés. They lean into that tired trope where everyone is suddenly part of this perfectly wholesome, tight-knit group, and then you have the ridiculous plot point where a character gets bitten and decides to keep it a secret instead of just shooting themselves in the head right then and there to prevent an outbreak.

I didn't mind it one bit, mainly because I walked in with the impression that Paul W. S. Anderson was just making a massive joke out of this entire franchise. This time around, he clearly wasn't taking anything seriously. Watching the movie felt like playing a game of "spot the reference." One scene borrows from Evil Dead 2 with the zombies whistling, then you have Alice dressed like Clint Eastwood, followed by a shot straight out of Star Wars, and another nod to Day of the Dead. There wasn't a single truly original moment in the bunch, yet somehow, it felt more fun and playful than the first two installments. If they aren't going to make something that actually respects the spirit of Resident Evil 4, then fine—whatever. If it’s going to be a circus, let them throw a damn masquerade ball. 🙂

heh... so basically "this movie is my favorite because they realized what a total mess they made of the franchise, so they just leaned into the absurdity"😁

I mean, I get 🙂

but you can't deny that if the first one had more decent jokes and a bit more humor mixed in, it might've actually been the best film in the series...
the setting and the vibe of that first one had enough potential to be a genuinely solid movie...
too bad it didn't happen, probably because they handed the reins to some hack director, and well, that sucks...
guess we'll see what happens next year and how they wrap things up...
maybe an ending... probably not 😛

I understand. 🙂

You can't honestly argue that the first one wouldn't be the absolute best installment, especially when you factor in the sharper dialogue, the actual sense of humor, and the way it didn't take itself quite so seriously.
The first one and the setting alone—there was so much potential there. It really could have been developed into a genuinely high-quality film.
Unfortunately, it didn't pan out. Did they even give him the green light to actually build it? If not, then well, that's just how the cookie crumbles.
Anyway, we'll just have to wait a year and see how things actually play out and what kind of ending we're looking at.
Maybe it's the end... but probably not. 😛

I agree completely. The first one would have been the absolute best if they had just injected a bit more humor into it. It’s clear that Paul W. S. Anderson knows how to direct, but he simply doesn't have the knack for writing a coherent script. Even if Romero's script for Resident Evil wasn't exactly a masterpiece, it still held its own.I’m holding out hope that they actually bring Claire Redfield in for the fourth installment. Honestly, Ali Larter was incredibly good in Extinction, even if she didn't get much to work with in that small, thankless role.

I'm just hoping they play it smart with part 4 and bring in Claire Redfield (Ali Larter was seriously good in "Extinction," even if her role was small and thankless)

I agree on Paul Anderson—he’s a decent director, but as a writer? 🙄
BTW, I’d much rather see the fourth movie based on the Resident Evil 4 game. Forget the zombies; give me those crazy villagers instead. 😁

Your wish might actually come true—Nintendo and Microsoft are reportedly working on a CGI The Walking Dead film for next year. It sounds like it won't have anything to do with the previous Jurassic Park movie trilogy. We still don't know who will be directing or writing it, but there's a chance this could actually stay faithful to the games. Let's stay optimistic.

Since I consider myself a hardcore gamer, I have to admit my struggle with why I can't seem to appreciate the Jurassic Park movies. My blue gaming blood feels insulted 🙂 But damn, that actress is gorgeous

Just pure entertainment, nothing more than that. After how much the second installment flopped, I was bracing myself for something even worse, but it actually turned out to be quite decent. Milla is still absolutely killing it. 😲 😍 👍 Watch it without setting any massive expectations.

The movie was actually a blast—I wasn't bored for even a single second! Of course, it falls into that category of films you’ll probably forget pretty quickly, and it isn't exactly going to change your life or leave a lasting impact on you. It's just your standard, run-of-the-mill sci-fi action flick. Honestly, I expected way less than this, so...

The movie is basically just about farmers... a total disaster. I wasn't exactly expecting it to dive deep into existentialism, but even for this genre, I have certain baseline standards that this third installment fails to meet miserably. I mean, if that doctor character—who is also infected—claims the virus can't be destroyed, how on earth does he manage to fix everything so ridiculously simple at the end? Is it supposed to be as logical as when Schwarzenegger blows up Satan with holy water in Doomsday?😂 😂
It’s such a waste of Milla; she looks incredible in it..

If you enjoyed the first two installments, you should definitely give this one a shot. However, if those first two didn't really click for you, I’d suggest skipping this 🙂

Anyway... don't want to start a whole new thread for nothing, but check out this shot from the set of the new The Walking Dead movie—The Walking Dead: Afterlife.

Had no clue Wentworth Miller from Prison Break was even in this thing...
