I wouldn't go that far... I know it aired on some satellite channel over the summer... but ABC didn't show it.

Yeah.
A buddy of mine was actually writing a satirical piece about the New Year's Eve programming—and he ended up mentioning the ever-present Superman.
Even I was feeling pretty skeptical about it, but he told me that he really was shown.

Look, I'm a die-hard follower of TV schedules during the Christmas holiday and New Year's Day because there's always a decent selection of films, but I don't recall seeing Superman. I don't know, maybe I just missed it.
The last time I caught a screening of Superman was a few years back on CBS. Naturally, I didn't stick around to finish it. Still, I’d love to catch it on some local American network one of these days.
I really want to see Lex Luthor played by Gene Hackman again! Now that is what I call a fun villain!

We were listening to CNN at work today when the news hit us, and honestly, we were just stunned. One of my coworkers blurted out, "Superman is dead."
Even the attacks on the World Trade Center or those senseless suicide bombings in Baghdad didn't shake us this much.

Superman is exactly why I feel like things were better back in the old days.
Every year during the Christmas holiday, they’d air at least one movie.
Then the nineties hit, and now for New Year's Day, we just get stuck watching various Matrix sequels or bad Van Damme movies.
Actually, PBS did show him a few years ago when I was still in high school; they had a "Movie night with Superman" where they aired the first three films.

He might have actually delivered more impactful performances in movies like "The Remains of the Day" or even "Above Suspicion"—where, in a stroke of pure irony, he plays a paralyzed police officer who is really just pretending...
You should definitely track that one down—maybe grab a copy from a local video rental shop or find it online.

It really hit me hard, even though I mostly just knew him as the man who played Superman, and later, the man in the wheelchair. I suppose it’s because seeing the hero I was so obsessed with as a kid end up like that just tugs at the heartstrings. I can't quite put my finger on why it moved me so much.

In my opinion, he suffered far too long, stuck in that chair like a vegetable—poor guy. Honestly, if I were in his shoes, I might have just called it quits right then (maybe he would have, too, if he had the choice). But from what I recall, he actually managed to land a role in a movie despite being in the chair.

Inache, Christopher Reeve actually attempted suicide shortly after his fall from the horse, but thankfully they were able to step in and stop him just in time.
