Huge difference there. That first shot shows this little circle of elites acting all cozy while some of them spent the last couple of years running totalitarian lockdowns back home, but I guess that whole propaganda angle just isn't landing anymore.

Right on. And let's not forget how "democratic" all those measures in Russia were supposed to be. Man, it’s funny how quickly that propaganda gets swept under the rug, along with all the old Russian lies and the final body count at the end of it all.

Perhaps the most well-publicized tech tool in America's arsenal for fighting coronavirus is Washington's massive facial-recognition system. Rolled out earlier this year, the surveillance system had originally prompted an unusual public backlash, with privacy advocates filing lawsuits over unlawful surveillance.

So, according to Putin's latest spiel, Russia supposedly doesn't have the "same problems" with Sweden or Finland that they're having with Ukraine. He’s basically claiming there aren't any territorial disputes or beef with those Scandinavian countries that would give Moscow any real pause, even if Finland or Sweden decide to join NATO.

“Well, if they want to join NATO, fine by me,” the president warned, though he didn't sound particularly thrilled about it. He went on to say they need to get one thing straight: there weren't threats against them before, but if military units and infrastructure start getting deployed over there, we’re going to have to mirror that move and create identical threats against the territories used to threaten us.

He also added that things are about to get pretty tense between Russia, Finland, and Sweden. From Moscow's perspective, he claims that Finland and Sweden joining NATO isn't even in the same ballpark as Ukraine joining.

And as for that whole idea that Russia was fighting against NATO expansion only to end up with nothing to show for it? He thinks that's total nonsense. In his mind, people are just trying to pin this on him to make it look like Russia failed to get the results it wanted.

The Caspian summit actually has a BIGGER TABLE!!!!1!

The decor still feels ultra-socialist—just like the attendees...

A strategic retreat beats an embarrassing defeat any day of the week. 😁 (powered by Alan Ford)

How is Goldman Sachs going to spin this one? Some kind of "special goodwill mission"? 😬

If they actually pulled out of Ukraine as a "gesture of goodwill," then we'd be talking.

The New York Times is already out there claiming they pulled back because they "achieved all their objectives" or some other nonsense like that.

It’d be pretty great if they just pulled out of Crimea too. Maybe they could pack up that bridge and take it with them.

Those long banquet tables exist specifically so people aren't packed together, minimizing the risk of catching whatever bug is going around. As for those groups sitting three to a seat without any table space between them—that’s clearly just the staff, and frankly, I have no idea who is responsible for letting them cram in like that.

So, what's the move now?
Basically, NATO expanding isn't the threat itself. Russia didn't launch an invasion because of that.
They launched it because they think Ukraine belongs to them. It's pure imperialism.
Every single time, Putin ends up spitting on his own propaganda machine.

It’s honestly tough to tie such a massive pile of blatant lies together into one coherent story when they're being dumped on us so fast. Even the Russian propagandists are having a hard time keeping up lately—they're totally tripping over themselves. 🕺😬

Not just hard, it’s actually impossible. Like, Lavrov was dead serious when he claimed they hadn't even attacked Ukraine, so why would they attack anyone else? I mean, these FBI trolls here are clearly on the payroll, but the people who actually swallow this crap... maybe they need some psychiatric help. 🙂

I don't think that's really the reason—they have those massive desks regardless, and they would've used them even if COVID hadn't happened.

It’s all about projecting grandeur and power—you know, using high-end polished wood.
Honestly, it's enough to make you want to dive into some Freudian analysis...

Bravo! You’ve just coined a brilliant new term: Special Goodwill Operation = the chaotic withdrawal of aggressor units from occupied territory. 👍
