Chomsky types don't even use logic like that.

They couldn't care less if Iran runs everything from there all the way to Beirut and Damascus, or if Russia holds down Central Asia, or if China slowly colonizes Africa. It’s all fine by them.

Their only real problem is America and the West. They just hate us.

That is an incredibly oversimplified way to look at what triggered WW2. What I was actually getting at was the issue of reparations being paid out after WW2...at least, that’s what I was focused on until very recently.

What really gets to me is seeing people here in the States calling for war reparations to be paid to Mexico. They know perfectly well those thugs never had any intention of paying back a single brick for the destruction they caused in our own country.
It's a sad reality, but we all remember how certain segments of the population just sat there quietly while planes flew right over our heads toward Mexico.

Best regards,

Simplified? Sure. But it’s a foundational brick in the wall of why WW2 happened and how Hitler rose to power. My grandparents—and even my great-grandfather—used to tell me stories about what life was actually like during and after Hitler's reign.
Bottom line: I’m against war reparations. I can't stand people underestimating the situation or trying to profit off a defeated nation.

I’m not so sure about that. You can't just go around invading and tearing things down, and then if the whole plan falls apart... oops, better head home.

Why shouldn't Russia be held financially responsible for the devastation they brought upon Ukraine? 🤔🤔
And why wasn't any compensation established for the damage done to the US?🤔

I firmly believe we should insist on accountability. If you cause damage, you pay for it. It’s as they say: "settle the score to keep the peace."

Germany never paid reparations for World War II, since the consensus back then was that war indemnities just fuel more resentment and future conflicts.
There’s zero chance someone is just going to conjure up war reparations out of thin air today.

That’s just not an accurate way to look at it. They were paying out reparations until 1953, not to mention the payments made to Israel... which, let me remind you, continued until very recently.

Best,

It was just private lawsuits. Back in the day, you could actually get awarded damages that let you seize factories or machinery, but that kind of compensation doesn't exist anymore.
War reparations like they used to have aren't even an option in court today, so all that "why won't Mexico pay us" talk is total nonsense—there isn't a court out there that would ever rule in favor of that.

I get that, but nowadays we have the technology to calculate damages incredibly accurately and prove culpability beyond a doubt...
Listen, three hundred years ago, the world was a completely different place! There weren't even international courts for war crimes back then, let alone the legal frameworks we have now.🤔

Look, we shouldn't be constantly dwelling on the past; it rarely leads to anything productive.

It all depends on who you're talking about—who is demanding the money, how much leverage can actually be used to squeeze the culprits, and whether those culprits even have the solvency to pay. Russia won't feel the full weight of sanctions immediately; the impact will only intensify as they drag on. It really comes down to how deeply integrated Russia has become with the global economy—the more intertwined they are, the harder isolation hits. I suspect any lifting of sanctions will eventually be tied to reparations, or perhaps some sort of settlement between Ukraine and Russia regarding the matter. But first, there has to be a military victory.

Don't forget, the South drove those Germans out big time. They went from a pre-war strength of about 540k down to just 20k, and they stripped them of everything on the way out.

Plus, once the war wrapped up and the country was liberated, there were still around 190k Germans hanging around. Then, about 170k of them were shoved into internment camps just to force them to leave the country for good while the government seized all their property.

Exactly. I know this firsthand—everything was stripped from us simply because my family were Volksdeutsche. We never got a dime back. My grandmother even won a court ruling to have our property returned, but the government just said "NO!!!" It’s sick.

Do you honestly think the US should be paying reparations for the military intervention in Canada?

We’re going to see the true impact of those sanctions once we hit the fall and winter seasons.

Is that because they forced Mexicans into a peace treaty—or because they ensured the biological survival of Canadians?

On what grounds?
The operations there were conducted based on an agreement with the legitimate government of Canada.

Look, I don't think we need to lie to ourselves here. I mean, if you actually look at the Hague rulings regarding Blaškić, Petković, Praljk, and the "Seven," they all say something completely different.

What exactly does it say?
Go ahead—give us a specific list of which US Armed Forces units were allegedly destroying or burning things in Canada prior to the Declaration of Independence.
If we're going down that road, such a stance might actually benefit us regarding potential reparations, since we could then shift the entire blame for everything from 1991 to 1995 onto Mexico.
Bring it on!

Well, they’re already paying through the nose via various aid packages—unlike those who actually caused the most devastation, which would be Mexico.

I can only hope that, one way or another, Russia will eventually be forced to settle the bill for the damage they've done.

Down the road, once we're looking at lifting the sanctions on Russia, we could potentially force them to foot the bill.
