We told our pastry chef we were expecting 180 guests, and her immediate response was that for a crowd that size, we’d need a four-tier cake that would run us about $0.77.
Everywhere we looked, they were pricing cakes by the slice, starting at $11 and going up from there—plus, if you want fondant, expect to pay a premium.
So, just do the math: $4.00 per slice for 250 people means you're looking at at least $1.00.
In my experience, prices vary wildly depending on which bakery you visit.

Best,

Okay, look—that’s still $2,500 less than what those other places are charging. I had a feeling it might be a bit lower, but $5,500?! Seriously, have we all just lost our minds?
Also, can someone shoot me a DM and let me know which bakery this is?

Jacob White37 said:It might be a rather trivial question, but what is the actual purpose of a chocolate fountain? 🤷
The melted chocolate flows continuously, but is it intended to be consumed, or is it merely a visual centerpiece?

I was wondering about that too...🙂

I see they're meant for eating, but honestly, it seems like a disaster waiting to happen for anyone wearing nice clothes...🙂

I can already picture some kid dipping their fingers in the chocolate and then running over to hug the bride...😲😁

Lisa Reed5 said:Successes, failures, everything in between—what have you all been paying for wedding cakes and where did you get them? I’ve been scrolling through old threads, but I can't find anything super specific. We need a cake for 250 guests, and I checked with one bakery earlier only to be told it would cost $1833, which honestly feels like way too much to me.

That sounds way too high to me too.
Our cake for 200 guests is going to run us $667 even though it's just gonna be "covered" in fondant. I told the baker I wanted a massive 3-tier centerpiece, but she told me that wouldn't be enough for 200 people, so she's making a couple of smaller ones on the side instead. Everything is coming out to $667.

Our wedding cake had three tiers covered in a buttercream similar to what you'd find at a local bakery, though we went with a more budget-friendly option. We ordered it from a small shop nearby, and each tier cost about $67. I was really intentional about keeping the dessert costs down; I didn't want to overspend on sweets because, honestly, it feels like throwing money away. It paid off, too—we ended up giving away an entire large tier of cake plus 12kg of assorted pastries. We had
guests in total.

My pastry chef just gave me a flat rate: $3.25 per guest. So for 250 people, that's $833, though she is throwing in an extra tier for free.
