Kenneth Anderson12 said:The pastries at Salt Lake Secret are wonderful too, but since the hotel where I'm having my wedding orders their treats from Mouse Bakery, I went with theirs at $22 per pound.
I'm not sure if you've tried them at the bridal expo?

Salt Lake Secret is AWESOME, but honestly, they’re a bit too pricey for me...
I actually tried the stuff from Mouse Bakery too—I even dragged my husband out to pick up 2 kg of them way out in the middle of nowhere🙂—but I wasn't exactly blown away. They were definitely better than what you get at Absalom, but 🤷 I have a few complaints. Then again, I'm a total dessert freak, so maybe I'm not the most reliable judge. Where are you holding the wedding? Please tell me it's not at Joe-Schmoe's venue?

We just got a recommendation to pick up some M&M's and sugar...

I actually gave them a call just today... it turns out if you order one of their signature cakes, you can get a pound of those specific assorted cookies included $18. They offer delivery services, too, and they're quite flexible with packaging—they can use your own boxes or provide theirs, and I believe they even offer custom printing on the packaging if you want something special... we're looking at a three-tier cake to serve about 130 people$321.

Yeah, Joe-Schmoe.🙂

Jeeeeeeeeeee! We were actually there in July! I asked Ann if there was any way we could sample those pastries they were offering, but she just kept circling around the question—saying she’d have to let us know when the next wedding is, blah, blah, blah... 😕 So we eventually gave up, even though she could have just told us it was from the Mouse bakery.
And honestly... I’m still on the hunt for those sweets, and I’m starting to think there’s something wrong with me. Every single bakery I’ve tried where the treats cost anywhere from $50 to $27 has been a massive letdown. Maybe the problem is just me... 🤷

We went back in May. We happened to drop in on a Saturday during a wedding and picked up a pound of pastries to try. Everyone who had a bite said they were delicious.

Yeah, well, I just didn't like them. Maybe they were having an off day, or maybe it was just me! 😁
It doesn't matter though. Once I finally pick out my favorite bakery, I'll make a big announcement here! Until then, my goal is to pack on at least 20 pounds! 🙂

We had those pastries from Mouse too... incredible value for the quality, honestly delicious. 👍
Hardly anyone even touched them, though. There was enough left over after the wedding to last us the entire week.

What do you guys think of this:

Just a quick little note—the actual vision here was to have strawberries dipped in chocolate tucked along the side, but since I didn't have any berries on hand at the moment, what you're actually looking at is an apple slice paired with a mint leaf 😍
I just wanted to get a sense of how the final presentation should look!

I once attended a wedding where they served pastries from Mouse, and honestly, they were pretty decent enough.👍

Yeah, I guess everyone’s experience is different. Personally, I could really taste the granulated sugar in a lot of those pastries—you know, that annoying crunch between your teeth? Plus, they were pretty poorly shaped, and every fourth cookie or so had the crust just peeling right off. Honestly, that was a total dealbreaker for me. 👎

I didn't run into any of those issues when I tried them. Is it just a matter of luck? Unfortunately, it seems to be nothing more than a roll of the dice.

That crust separation happens when the pastries are frozen and then thawed... It might be worth letting them know upfront, like, "Look, if these aren't up to par, we aren't paying full price." Or you could use it as leverage if a cake doesn't turn out how you wanted it, just so you can negotiate the final bill down...

It doesn't have to be that way... they could have simply baked the sponge or the crust much earlier so it would have dried out enough to prevent it from sticking to the cream... which, frankly, isn't exactly professional behavior either...

Where are you planning to make this?

Well, my brother’s girlfriend and I actually teamed up to pull this off—and even my future mother-in-law pitched in to help with all the decor!
It was one of those spontaneous "hey, let's see if this actually works" moments—we just decided to dive in and test it out—and honestly, we were so thrilled with the result that we’re already thinking about doing the exact same thing for the wedding!

So, when is your wedding? We have one in Joe-Schmoe too, though ours is this Friday, July 15th... we picked up some treats from Mouse recently, and I've had them at both the fall and spring fairs, and they were wonderful. People have all sorts of opinions about Mouse, but considering how much you get for what you pay during this season, the value for the quality is actually pretty incredible... 😁

Just a heads-up: if you're having the wedding at a venue, definitely check if they'll allow homemade desserts. You don't want to run into any trouble where they turn you down because of health codes or regulations regarding food made without official commercial labeling or receipts.

Does anyone happen to know a baker who makes cookies like these? The girl who makes them is out of town right when we’re craving them most 😢

Quick question—does anyone in the Midwest know a bakery that can pull off a Minion-themed wedding cake? Or maybe someone’s actually seen one before? I’ve checked out basically half the shops around here and it's been a bust. Either they won't touch it, they're too busy, or they want my entire life savings just to bake it! 🤷

Bryan Gomez90 said:Before I lose my mind, will a 12.5x12.5x9cm box actually hold 25 ounces of cookies? And honestly, how many cookies does anyone typically cram into these things?
This is the box I'm looking at, and now I’m starting to think I should have just gone for a larger size.

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...0&tx=55&ty=123

I totally swiped your idea, and I feel a little guilty about it—not really, but still! 😉
I immediately checked out that website and sent a message to my friend over in Chicago to head over there and grab some boxes for me—though, in hindsight, I definitely should have picked up the larger ones
Thanks so much for the inspiration and the link!
