It's modular and a total Best Buy choice.
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/artic...Review/1019/10 Or maybe just take a quick break and stretch first.

I’m looking to grab a new PSU for my rig—specifically one that won't sound like a jet engine taking off. I had an EVGA 750W unit before that was incredibly noisy, and honestly, I ended up swapping it out twice in a single year... apparently, there's just a recurring issue with that specific line of power supplies, or at least that's what the guys at the repair shop told me. So, I'm ready to move on. I've got about $750 worth of value sitting in my old EVGA unit, and I don't mind chipping in a bit more to get something better. It would also be great if it were modular, just like the EVGA one was.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad
Coolermaster 412s
RAM: 2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance
MB: Gigabyte 990FX
GPU: HD7850
DVD ROM
SSD 128GB
HDD WD Caviar Black
4x120mm fans and 4 neon lights

It's fully modular, uses a single 12V rail, and the ripple and noise levels are basically non-existent—it's right up there with the high-end Seasonic units:

I'm looking at getting a Protis... my budget is sitting at $750, so I'm wondering what my old setup is worth toward this, or if I should just grab a cheaper model and keep the change...

I'd probably go for it... Check out this link from Protis—it’s got all the details on that specific component... worth a look if you're digging into the specs... and for... $83 Either I'll add one more thing—maybe grab something a bit pricier while I'm at it...

Well, you can pick it up at Protis for $233.

What are your thoughts on this power supply?
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/859

I picked one up today, and it seems quite solid and reliable.
Has anyone here had any experience using this unit?

Well, you did the review yourself and pointed out how solid this PSU is. It might actually be total overkill unless you're running CF/SLI alongside an overclocked Intel Core i7-8700K 😬

I’ve got my PC build laid out here—everything seems set, but I’m obsessing over the power supply. Is this enough juice?
GPU: Radeon HD 7950
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z 990FX/SB950
RAM: 16GB Corsair DDR3, 1600MHz
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K
Everything else—hard drives, mouse, speakers, you name it—is already accounted for...
Cooler: Cooler Master Frio Advanced
And the PSU I’m currently eyeing is
Corsair VS Series 650W
Will this hold up, assuming I don't mess around with overclocking?

It would technically work, but here's the catch: that budget-friendly series from Corsair is pretty low-end—I’m pretty sure they use some cheap, knock-off capacitors in those models. I’d steer clear if I were you. If you're looking at Corsair, the CX line is a step up, but honestly, you should aim for the TX series. You really need to vet the build quality, the efficiency rating, and most importantly, how much actual power it delivers on the 12V rail compared to what's printed on the box.
In this specific price bracket, this unit is the gold standard for both reliability and raw power:

I don't have it on me, and my PC isn't nearby either. How am I supposed to check if it's dead without the power supply?

368.54W. Honestly, isn't that question a bit ridiculous? How are we supposed to know exactly how much power the PC is pulling?! Any decent power supply rated at 400W or higher is going to handle this without breaking a sweat. I remember running an old AMD Phenom X6 paired with a Radeon 6850 on a 400W MSI unit for a whole week, so you'll be perfectly fine with whatever you get.

I'm asking specifically about adding another GPU with a Zalman 450W power supply

No. You're better off putting your money toward one high-quality graphics card. Besides, that motherboard isn't exactly built for a Crossfire setup anyway:
2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (PCIE2 @ x16 mode; PCIE4 @ x4 mode)

Yeah, it’s alright, I guess—but nothing to write home about—they can get pretty loud with those fans sometimes.
