Which should I choose: Windows XP or Windows Vista Ultimate?

Look, go ahead and try to install Nero Burning ROM on Windows XP. While you're sitting there waiting for it to actually boot up, I'll have already burned my DVD on Vista, grabbed a coffee, and watched half a movie.

I remember one time I was putting together an old rig—Pentium III, 128 MB of RAM—and I tried to throw Windows 98 on it. What a disaster. Media Player wouldn't work without DirectX 9, and even if it did, the graphics card couldn't handle it. Every video player I installed looked like a snowstorm on the screen. In the end, I just slapped Windows XP on it, and even with a measly 128 MB of RAM, it ran like a total wreck.

It wasn't that long ago that everyone was trashing Windows XP and acting like Windows 98 was the holy grail. We all swore we’d never touch Windows XP, but we forgot how much of a headache those modem drivers and other glitches were pretty damn fast. We bought new modems, added more RAM, or just upgraded to new PCs and moved straight to Windows XP.

And I guarantee you, nobody ever went back.

I’m running Nero Burning ROM Micro—takes up maybe 10 MB and boots in like two seconds flat. Honestly, I don't have any issues at all. If anything, you're dealing with way more compatibility headaches on Windows Vista than I am on Windows XP. As for what happens in two years? Who knows, but my bet is everything will still be running perfectly fine on Windows XP.

When we finally all migrate to Vista—which might be a while—I'll make the jump once it actually offers something better than Windows XP. And right now? It doesn't.

We’ll likely pivot to Windows Vista just like we did with Millennium back in the Windows 98 era... at least, that's my take...
I suspect Windows Vista serves as that specific bridge, acting as the transitional OS between Windows XP and Windows 7...

Oh, come on, why are you guys even fighting about what’s gonna happen two years down the road? It's all speculation at this point... we'll probably all be running Windows Vista by then, but honestly, who knows?

To all you Windows XP die-hards out there—look, I’ve been running Vista for like 3 or 4 months now and honestly? Haven't run into a single hiccup. Everything works perfectly fine. I just knock out an update every couple of weeks and call it a day.

It just doesn't make sense...☕
