Depends on your speed and where you're pulling it from. 😬

Everything seems fine on my end, but the picture in their software is washed out—it's almost unwatchable, like trying to view a screen through a thick curtain... Is there any updated AVerMedia software out there that actually supports Windows 7?

I haven't personally gotten mine running smoothly yet, but AVerMedia does support Windows 7.

There’s one more thing I haven't quite figured out—or rather, I just haven't bothered to look into yet.
How can I get the Show desktop icon to appear right here:

🤔

Yeah, but is there any way I can move that over here—just so it sits right next to these?

I'm slowly getting the hang of this Windows 7 RTM version (it's basically final now). 😉
Still, I don't think it's that easy to pull off in the pure Windows GUI. You'd probably have to mess around with system files, which—given my past experiences—is something I'm definitely not touching.

Wouldn't it just be easier to memorize a keyboard shortcut for something like that? It's: "Win + D"

Still, I don't think you can achieve that same feel purely through the standard Windows GUI without some "light" tinkering with system files, something I've decided to stay far away from given my past experiences...

Wouldn't it just be easier for you to memorize a keyboard shortcut for something like that, specifically: "Win + D"

exactly. I just use Win + D, and if I want to quickly peek at the desktop, I just shove my mouse all the way into the bottom right corner and there it is...

It really couldn't be any simpler... I know how things were set up back on Windows XP, but I find this method much more straightforward, and honestly, it's just a matter of getting used to it. It took me about a week to adjust, which isn't nearly as long as one might expect...

A few more things:

1. Is this Windows 7 RTM version basically the finished product? I'm planning on downloading it tonight, but I suppose I should check if it’s actually worth it or if I might as well just wait for the official release.
2. Also, what exactly does that x86 label signify?
3. How can I tell which version of Windows 7 is the 32-bit one, and I guess I need to know which specific one would actually run on my machine.

Sorry for asking all this, I'm really no expert and I definitely wouldn't want to end up downloading the wrong version by mistake.

Thanks!

1. RTM stands for Release to Manufacturing. It's close to being final, but not quite there yet—there'll likely be a small update before the "real" final version drops, probably around October (around the 22nd, I think).
2. x86 = 32-bit.
3. Check point #2. You're looking for "x86" in the name; those are the Windows versions meant for a 32-bit processor.

1. RTM stands for "Release to Manufacturing." It means the software is ready for mass distribution, whether that's via digital download or physical copies.
IMHO, it's definitely worth it if you have a newer machine. Don't bother waiting; just grab it, install it, and activate it. 😉

2. x86 (or x86-32) refers to 32-bit processors, whereas x86-64 denotes 64-bit processors.
The main difference comes down to how they handle RAM: 32-bit OS versions are capped at 4 GB of memory, while 64-bit versions can handle up to 32 GB.

3. What are your PC specs? You'll need to mention your processor and how much RAM you have installed to figure out which version of Windows 7 you should download.
For example, I'm running an Intel Core 2 duo (64-bit) with 4 GB of RAM, so I went with the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

If anything is unclear, just ask. We're all here to help each other out. 🙂

2.60 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM

Bottom line: go ahead and install the 64-bit version of Windows 7 RTM. 👍

Might want to think about adding more RAM. You're sitting at 2 GB now, but you can likely squeeze in another 2 GB. Look for PC2-6400 (DDR2-800 MHz). It shouldn't cost you more than about $20.

So, I was thinking, if I go ahead and install Windows 7 right now, will it just handle all its own business and update itself to the absolute final version? Like, I guess you mean, will it automatically grab all those little fixes and patches if they come out later on?

Thanks!

Grab the Windows 7 RTM (either the 32-bit or 64-bit version), burn that ISO to a DVD, run the installer, activate Windows, and you're done.

Later, once you're inside Windows, just turn on Windows Update—if it isn't already enabled by default—and sit back. 👍

Note:
The Windows RTM version is what gets handed off to OEM partners (Dell, HP, Gateway)—basically the folks selling pre-built rigs with Windows already installed—and the differences compared to the absolute final release are negligible. After RTM comes GA (General Availability), which is when the product is prepped for mass market; at that point, the software development side is essentially finished.

Honestly, I don't think it was actually a "beta" issue... it looked like an RTM version, but maybe it was a stripped-down Lite version and the guy just messed up the setup somehow. Anyway, I went ahead and installed the full, final RTM version, and now everything is running smooth as silk, just like a dream... so yeah, a massive thumbs up for Windows 7!

So, basically total garbage, huh? 🤔

Jokes aside, I give them 👍👍, and I even managed to get the activation working. 😉

Hey there!
I’m planning on installing Windows 7, but I really don't feel like reformatting my partitions—specifically my C: drive where my current XP is sitting. Will it be an issue if I just perform an upgrade instead? Right now I'm running XP SP3 (and it isn't even an original copy). Will
my current programs actually work, and am I going to run into driver headaches since everything supposedly downloads automatically these days?

Thanks
