The way they handled everything back in 2001 was just pure genius...
Let’s be honest: this piece is poorly written and the subject matter is so muddy you can't even tell what the author is actually trying to say. But hey, I guess that still makes it better than 75% of the music coverage you find in the mainstream American media. Then we run into the issue of our pathetic club scene; aside from places like the legendary Bowery Ballroom, there isn't a single venue with a coherent, professional operation—not that the text even touches on it—but honestly, places like the Troubadour are totally screwed because they have zero actual programming. Our whole music scene is basically circling the drain, too. I mean, what is even happening if the supposed "fresh blood" is just bands like Ramirez and Elemental? Personally, I find Ramirez somewhat likable, but they feel like some Britpop cover band singing with American lyrics, and while Elemental absolutely kills it, they're really just a party band. And to top it all off, music journalists are the absolute peak of this godforsaken pyramid of uninspired, talentless, lazy, clueless hacks driven by nothing but personal agendas. They write without soul, without knowledge, and without any damn backbone. And on the rare occasion someone actually writes something with an actual opinion, it usually ends up being arrogant, inconsistent, or just blatant self-interest.
I mean, for starters, our "alternative" music journalists are either just terrible with words, or they're so incredibly jaded that they end up writing reviews for shows they never even attended, concerts that were canceled, or events they actually organized themselves... I mean, seriously, how can things get any worse when half of them are indirectly on the payroll of some major label? Or when you have people who somehow manage to be award show organizers, concert promoters, record label heads, journalists, and obnoxious critics all at the same time? To make matters worse, they write with this insufferable, condescending attitude.
Look, when it comes to the opening acts, neither let 3 nor Marsh (directly) are to blame here. From what I can gather, the crew responsible for setting up the PA system and the stage really dropped the ball and dragged everything out. Now, the real question is how much responsibility falls on whoever actually hired them...
Are we actually debating the lineup for the swamp, the chaos of let 3, someone slapping up posters, or just the fact that Elemental and Ramirez absolutely rocked The Factory?
Or maybe we’re just dissecting the writing style over at Icon?
Honestly, when you look at film criticism, aren't the most fascinating reviews the ones that dive into movies where the acting is just painfully over-the-top and cliché? I mean, those films where the performances are so wildly exaggerated they become almost impossible to watch...
.. look, Tyler Grant86, those things aren't even the interesting part. It’s all about the hype and the crowd they draw in... it’s a textbook Warholian spectacle.
Well, of course it is! It's just that I completely failed to mention that anywhere earlier...
Nicholas Perez33 said:"nobody even cares," he said rudely
Where on earth does it say "nobody even cares" anywhere here?
I am completely lost on the point or the reference of this post.
redgull44 said:screw you guys
you're all just jealous of what women have achieved... you clearly have no clue what actual trash looks like
...I just want you to love me... na na na...
I love you🙂
If this isn't being rude, I don't know what is...
What kind of "success" are we even talking about here that everyone is supposedly so jealous of? Is showing up on some local ABC affiliate or a random cable network on DirecTV considered a massive achievement now?
Especially when you dress like a complete moron and pretend you're some high-end hostess from a dream sequence...
Is "success" just smiling at a few thousand people during a commercial break on a local news segment?
Or is it having a CD release announced? Because let's be real, Biffel put out three whole albums and I don't see him bragging about his "success," nor does anyone else seem to care...
Did someone actually leak this?
Yeah, they did. Why would anyone even bother?

Oh, come on... honestly, once you sit down and listen to Mister No, it’s pure gold. I can already see myself in the front row at their next show, belting this out at the top of my lungs:
....That day I tasted the Hoffman trip
And I liked this one guy
Cool hair, an oxter walk
I’d love to take him home
He says it's Wednesday
That a friend's train arrives today
I want to be up front
Can I be up front?
The whole damn city is against us
When I'm holding your hand
When I touch your lips
I get beat up
I’d ask all those people
If I could just have a little bit
A chance to believe in Bog
The last time we were picking flowers
You told me you wouldn't
The last time we were picking flowers
I was throwing up all day long
I was throwing up and thinking of you
And dreaming of you
Of you
A dollop of cream on me
It turns me on so much
They want the rain to spray all day
He's got the key
Capuccino, the real deal
While he combs my hair, I relax
While he does those things for me
I forget about her
Before I die, I want to
Make our dreams come true
I want to kiss you...
There is just so much (admittedly accidental) self-deprecation here..
Mister No is basically like some weird mashup of an American Zappa, Weird Al Yankovic, and whoever else you can think of. Probably.
Here’s how I’d phrase the next sentence:
"He is easily one of the most intriguing and captivating frontmen out there, leading one of our finest bands—a group that could honestly pivot toward the mainstream in just an album or two."
Over at vip.music, there’s this poetic breakdown by Dragan regarding Fiu Brij, which—true to form—is absolutely packed with his signature flourishes. Honestly, out of the whole thing, one specific bit about Sophia Loren really caught my eye. (Well, okay, I'm mostly joking, but it stuck because it was the first thing I read and I just couldn't help myself!)
"The crowd responded warmly to the nonchalant and graceful Sophia Loren..."
Given all the glowing praise he's given them in the past, he actually seemed quite restrained this time around. So, I'm curious to hear from anyone who was actually in the room: what exactly were those two up to in front of a crowd of seven hundred people? Did the audience actually vibe with them? And more importantly, were they truly as nonchalant and graceful as he claims?
The girls will be releasing their album under a new sub-label from Warner Music Group called Dop Records. Even on Dop's own website—which makes me wonder if they have some kind of business partnership with the duo—they were singing their praises...
Seriously though, why is nobody talking about our best homegrown albums? Surely we've produced some absolute gems...
Like a total idiot, I’m going to tack one more name onto this list myself.
