Rape: Fact or Fiction? in Philosophy ·
Heheh mariachi 👍

I once had a girlfriend who basically demanded I be aggressive in every single sexual encounter. To put it bluntly, she wanted me to just wreck her.

Now, imagine we get into a massive fight, she decides she wants to get even, and suddenly she’s filing a rape charge against me 😁 because I went too far, right? She’s got "evidence," she’s got medical reports—everything. And everything else about what actually happened stays strictly behind closed doors.
If I end up rotting in prison for five years, how am I supposed to explain myself to God? How do I prove my side of the story when 🙂
nothing matters?
It really makes me wonder, though... how many unreported assaults are actually out there? How many women stay silent because they're terrified, or maybe because they're just too passive or possessive to speak up?
Rape: Fact or Fiction? in Philosophy ·
Jesse Vaughn3, don't be so literal with me. From where I’m sitting, this is more about philosophy than anything else.

What I’m actually getting at is how people constantly weaponize the term "rape." Don't you think some people just play the victim card for no reason, simply because someone decided to label their situation as an assault?
Look, we all know what actual predators look like. There's no debate there. But is every single instance labeled rape really what it claims to be?
It feels like nobody is actually grasping my point here. 🙂

And one more thing—is it even possible for a woman to rape a man? How would that even work? If he's physically aroused, then he's a willing participant, right? It isn't forced. Right?
Rape: Fact or Fiction? in Philosophy ·
Hold on a second. I’ve already set aside the obvious cases of rape where there isn't even a debate. When someone is physically or psychologically traumatized, the situation is clear-cut and undeniable.

But take a different scenario: a guy sleeps with a girl. Just a one-night stand, for example.
Then the next day, she claims she was assaulted. Naturally, he maintains his innocence.
Who is a neutral observer supposed to believe?
At this point, her reasoning or her motives don't really matter.

The real issue is how he can possibly prove he didn't do it. It often feels like the whole thing boils down to nothing more than preconceived notions or social stereotypes.
Rape: Fact or Fiction? in Philosophy ·
Everyone knows the standard definition of rape.
Basically, it's any sexual act performed without consent. Nowadays, the legal system hands out massive sentences to perpetrators. Historically, though, rape was often used as a weapon of war—a calculated strategy meant to humiliate an enemy by targeting women, who were seen as the backbone of society.

But here’s the catch: how do we actually distinguish a violent act from everything else? How can anyone be one hundred percent certain that one person didn't want to participate in the act at that specific moment?
We've all heard the typical excuses used by perpetrators, claiming the other person's non-compliance was actually just them thinking that...
Beyond that, how do you ensure the victim didn't somehow provoke the situation?
Let's set aside the obvious cases where the intent is crystal clear—like when someone is physically threatened or left with serious bodily harm. In those instances, there isn't really room for debate.

The problem lies in the huge number of cases where people get slapped with heavy prison time based solely on the word of the alleged victim. I'm not talking about a random stranger attacking someone in an alley. I'm talking about situations where both parties already know each other, maybe they're even dating, and then immediately after the encounter, one side claims they were raped.
That they didn't want it or that the act itself happened against their will.

So, whose word carries more weight? How are we supposed to be absolutely sure what actually went down?
Remake in Movies ·
Betty Mendoza55 said:I’m honestly surprised that the movie from his country took home an Oscar.🙄

Honestly, I feel the same way looking back at it. But then again, when you look at the usual winners, that movie is actually a solid piece of filmmaking.

The remake is based on true events—the script was written and the film shot after the fact.
To be fair, the screenwriter lived through the war right there in Brooklyn; he literally had a target on his back. He captured a raw, unfiltered look at how those paramilitary gangs stormed the neighborhood. In our culture, nothing hits quite as hard unless it’s autobiographical.

This film is just more proof of how much influence Boston has on the cinematic world, even if it isn't always about pure quality.
Also, there's a new film coming out soon, directed by some local talent. From what the early screenings are saying, it’s an absolute masterpiece.

Look, people, 😁 everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.
I just threw this up on here quickly. I really don't feel like overanalyzing things right now; I just posted the first thing that popped into my head.
It's pure commercial fluff, designed strictly for entertainment.
My thought was just to give people something mindless to chew on if that's what they enjoy watching. 😛

I could sit here and pretend to be an expert on Aki Kurismaki or Akira Kurosawa just to suck up to someone, but I have zero intention of doing that. It's commercialism, plain and simple.

And honestly, it’s been like this for decades now. 😛

So why don't you go ahead and make a better one, Mr. Genius?

Action movies? OFF, hands down. The script is top-tier, and let’s be honest, John Woo is a total master when it comes to action. It's masterful. My favorite part has to be that church scene—those pigeons flying everywhere while he walks in, paired with that music... just phenomenal.

Thriller? Seven. No hesitation there; in my book, this is the best. What really sticks with me is the pacing and that constant, heavy sense of tension. Just brilliant.

Comedy? Personally, I have a soft spot for parodies. But they have to be done right. For instance, if you remember that UFO movie from about fifteen years ago—it was a great parody of Rambo.
That said, for a comedy to work for me, I actually need to laugh. Even so, my absolute favorite remains Monty Python's Life of Brian.

Drama? Titanic. Sure, it's a romance, but it's a massive spectacle regardless.

Horror? Halloween. Specifically the first one. Hardly anyone even dies, there isn't much blood to speak of, yet it's tense as hell.
The Blair Witch Project is also up there. I really dig that one.

SF? Alien. The second one is great, but the first one is also excellent.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind is another solid pick.
Come on, kid, don't be ridiculous. You're still wet behind the ears.

Look, I’m not holding my breath for gold. But honestly, who cares? As long as we have another powerhouse handball squad to cheer for, I'm happy.

But if there's any justice in this world, we deserve that gold. It feels like when Goran pulled off that massive upset at Wimbledon when nobody saw him coming.
They just appeared out of nowhere. Nobody even dreamed our guys could pull this off. To be fair, I was the first one thinking we’d get knocked out in the opening round after that loss to Argentina.
Instead, here they are, heading to the finals. If there's such a thing as sporting justice, the conclusion writes itself. Veni, vidi, vici 😁

Just one more step. Just one more push. Thank God—I know the Spaniards are His children too, but tonight, we were clearly better.
Man, what a comeback!!! We were down by five. Then, pure magic.
Absolutely beautiful.

😁 Whatever, let us all just sit here and stress out. Man, I really wish I could have just sat back and watched this game from the start—soaking in every single play and actually enjoying the ride. Remember when we were down five against Spain and someone had the nerve to say, "Don't worry, we'll catch them" 😁 I totally missed the recording because 😢
Seriously though, people, realize that you only see something like this once in a lifetime. At least when it comes to handball. A match like that, and we still walked away with 😁

And looking ahead to tomorrow? Realistically, we're cooked. Our guys are spent; there's nothing left in the tank. They burned through every last ounce of energy tonight.
But honestly, they’re already legends in my book. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, what they pulled off tonight—and what they did against the Danes—was pure magic.

If the Germans pull off a win, I am jumping off my balcony 😁 😛

What a game, what absolute grit.
Man, I’m going to be dreaming about this one tonight. And I know I'm not the only one. Hats off to Spain—seriously, respect. It couldn't have been played any better. They were the perfect opponent, total class. 🙏

But let’s be real about who really ran the show. Goluza is a master at this level. Metlicic is a living legend in American handball history. And Sola? That guy is an absolute alien.
Incredible work from everyone. Just incredible.
I was watching the match on FTV and at one point the commentator straight up said this game belongs in the annals of world handball history and honestly, he nailed it. There's nothing else to say.

The only downside is that I'll probably be stressed out over this for the next ten days. Honestly, looking back, I don't even regret cutting my life short a little bit by staying up late to watch this. 👍

Alright, I’m going to pretend I’m an expert for a second here, just for 😁

Here’s my take. First off, we absolutely need Zernica on the right wing. Djomba was basically nowhere to be found last night until after the Americans had already completely fallen apart. One combination play with Metlicic and one dry run isn't enough from him. And of course, he has to miss at least one fast break. That’s practically his trademark.
Look, I respect the guy, but he’s just not in form. He’s totally out of it. Jestel noticed that whenever our guys try to feed him on the wing, he’s lagging behind, so then he drifts out to the backcourt trying to act like a playmaker. Usually, that just kills our offensive flow.
So, put Zernica on the right wing. If Djomba stays in, then we need to look for Caleb more often.

Our perimeter looks incredible—knock on wood. In my opinion, Balic is definitely the best center back in this tournament. I’ve watched a few others, and they aren't even in his league. Metlicic played the game of his life last night, no doubt about it. And when Lackovic charges toward the six-meter line, he looks like an avalanche. It’s terrifying to watch; you could see it when the camera caught him from the corner. Just a total tornado. Our backcourt is flawless.

The defense is just as solid. The pivots are crushing it, and Valcic is literally tearing their playmaker apart at the front. Opponents have to play a deep defense against us, and hardly anyone knows how to handle that. Our guys know exactly what to do, and we're seeing the results. Man, the Americans were making rookie mistakes last night; during the friendlies, they were just wandering around the zone passing the ball like they were at practice. We absolutely dismantled them.

Now we just need to go grab that gold. Or at least try. Our guys are playing relaxed, and they happen to be playing their best handball yet. I think they can actually do it. There's no massive pressure on us. You saw how much they struggled, barely scraping by. All because of that constant grind.
Cate Blanchett in Movies ·
Steven Ruiz said:I was just at the grocery store, right near the dairy aisle, when I ran straight into Cate Blanchett. 😁
She was wearing this black coat and a pretty stylish hat. She wasn't lugging around those flimsy plastic bags like all the other mindless consumers polluting the environment; she had these woven baskets instead. 👍
She picked up some fruit yogurts (I know because that's where I spotted her) and grabbed some recycled packaging (again, because that's where I saw her 😉 )
Anyway.
Just thought I'd share that with you guys. 😁 😉 😁

And then I have the nerve to tell her straight to her face that I don't even like fruit yogurt. 😠
Stupid Katie.

😉

For me, the second one is easily the worst, right after the fourth, obviously.
Like someone already pointed out, it’s just the usual mindless action filler.

Man... they mostly show up at night... most of the time. 😛

Deep in the dragon's lair... A ninja and thirteen dragons 😛
Let me throw out some titles for you guys.

Terminator
Alien
Mad Max
Star Wars

I’d specifically highlight Alien. Do you guys agree that for this series, the sequels actually outdo the original? That’s incredibly rare. Usually, you get franchises where the first movie holds its own, but the follow-ups just fall flat. Take Scream, for example.
With Mad Max, the third one is honestly garbage, but the second one is the best in my opinion.
Aliens is totally peerless, whereas most other sequels feel like they're just milking the brand at this point.
Star Wars is genuinely good every single time, though looking back through today's lens of special effects, the original feels pretty naive.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is definitely better than the first, even if I personally find the story in the original more compelling.

I'm curious—are there any other movies where you actually prefer the sequel over the original?
Also, there are those rare franchises where every single installment is interesting or even great. Take Halloween; the only time they really messed it up was with H2O.
Have you guys ever watched Lilo & Stitch? Hehe, what a wild little creature.
The sweetest part is when that ugly little guy is just waiting around for his family to come home.😢
