Dealing with people's opinions... in Psychology & Therapy ·
I appreciate you all; I needed to share this with someone and hear what others think.
I tend to overthink everything, even at work. I have this constant drive to be the absolute best, and if I find out I’m not leading the pack on a project or some other task, I spiral into a depression and blame myself. We had a performance review today regarding last month's metrics, and when I compared my numbers to a colleague's, my mind immediately jumped to her being my "main rival" and me falling behind. It hit me hard. I immediately started obsessing, working frantically just to outdo her, wondering if everyone else now thinks I'm incompetent. In reality, there is no actual competition here; it's just a standard monthly report used to track productivity and workload.

Taylor Swift, growing up, I was heavier and frequently endured teasing, even from my own parents. I believe that is where the root of the issue lies, as it decimated my self-confidence. Even now, I am convinced I am overweight, despite everyone insisting otherwise. I am at a loss as to how to handle this, but how I feel is clearly unhealthy; these thoughts haunt me and make it impossible to relax. I have periods where I am wonderful—happy and smiling—but I fall into a deep depression quite easily. It is as if I lack the ability to simply enjoy life.

I ended up developing 🙄
due to the stress and some underlying health issues.

I have realized that I struggle with a persistent complex that frequently hinders my progress: an incessant preoccupation with how others perceive me, my life, and my choices. I am uncertain of its origin—perhaps a deficiency in self-confidence—but I have come to recognize that this mental loop prevents me from ever truly finding relaxation.
To provide a few trivial examples, during a coffee outing yesterday, the conversation turned toward cinema, and the group collectively disparaged a film I hold in high regard. In such moments, I simply remain silent to avoid confrontation, yet I find myself ruminating on that interaction for days, questioning why my perspective diverges from the consensus. Consequently, I often hesitate to voice my actual opinions.
Furthermore, my partner has been searching for employment for some time. Whenever someone inquires about his progress, his field of expertise, or why he hasn't pursued a specific role, I spend the remainder of the day agonizing over whether my response was appropriate. I fear people might mistakenly judge him as incompetent or lazy. It is quite possible to spend an entire evening in a depressive state, haunted by these imagined judgments.🤷I have even begun avoiding certain individuals to circumvent questions such as, "Has your boyfriend found work yet?" or "Have you put on some weight?"
The weight of external opinion is heavy; I find myself constructing imaginary scenarios where I am being judged. Most of the time, this distress does not stem from what is actually said, but rather from my own interpretation of what someone might be thinking. I can easily convince myself that my entire office thinks I am unattractive, based purely on a misinterpreted glance or tone, even when reality suggests otherwise.
I wish to know how to alleviate this burden and live as a composed, self-assured individual.🙂While I attempt to maintain such a persona, it is often merely a mask. My goal is to live peacefully, unburdened by the perceived scrutiny of others. Perhaps the nature of my corporate job, where reputation and the evaluations of management are paramount, exacerbates this tendency.🙄
I dream of a day when I can engage in any conversation with genuine lightness and zero apprehension... a day when I can embrace my own tastes, even if I am the sole admirer of a film that everyone else detests.😂I long for the day when I no longer interpret a stray glance or a poorly phrased comment as a personal attack... a day when I can prioritize my own peace and exist in the moment, rather than destroying it through endless speculation about the thoughts of others.
To summarize, I shall list all the values that have exceeded the standard range. I am interested in hearing your perspectives before my appointment with the physician.

Platelets 431 (ref. interval 158-424)
Basophilic granulocytes 0.12 (ref. int. 0-0.06)—is this elevation significant? 😳
fibrinogen 5.2 (r.i. 1.5-4.0)
Triglycerides 1.09 (recommended
Decreased: Neutrophil granulocytes: 42.8 (r.i. 44-72)
I just picked up my blood work results from today’s gynecological checkup regarding my birth control... the reference range for platelets is listed as 158-424, yet my level sits at 431. I wonder if such an elevation is considered within the realm of normalcy.
I don't quite follow... half a year before having sex?! By that logic, you would need to know exactly when you plan on having your first sexual encounter and start taking them six months in advance😂

Personally, I find it produces quite the opposite effect.😬 It simply leaves me thinking, "Good grief, look how far I am from that."😂

How exactly does one go about achieving such a result? 😍

How do you find the motivation to exercise?

I typically work out at home using fitness DVDs, which generally proves quite effective; there are moments when I feel genuinely energized and eager to begin. Following a session, I usually feel wonderful, experiencing a profound sense of happiness and satisfaction.

However, there are days when the drive simply isn't there.🤷 For instance, I attempted an aerobics routine just a few moments ago, only to abandon it after five minutes—the motivation was nonexistent. I have spent the entire day contemplating ways to avoid the effort, and once I actually started, I felt entirely lethargic and realized my technique was flawed.🤷

Is it normal to experience such periods of stagnation?

I find myself questioning whether it is truly wise to consume alcohol solely for that purpose.🤷

It works perfectly for me, though my friend managed to pack on twenty pounds while on it—not to mention some pretty intense mood swings.

The only thing that irritates me is all this unnecessary noise regarding Yasmin; most of those making a fuss haven't even begun to understand the situation.

I have already mentioned my previous consumption of Yasmin, and yet I find myself reaching for them once again.
I recently discovered Noblica while visiting Mexico City, and it was quite the revelation to find they carry them here in the States as well.🙂

It appears they truly hold the upper hand 🙂
I shall commence today, as my temper is entirely unpredictable... I might still be kept waiting 😳

Maria Newman2 said:I suppose you might need to wait for the volume to increase... at least, that seems to be the case with mine.🙂

That is exactly what the instructions state on every single pill pack. However, my gynecologist informed me that I could start immediately, though he did advise being extra cautious since I won't have full contraceptive protection during that first month.

I have been contemplating whether to begin my regimen today. My cycle is currently absent—there has been nothing since December 28th, which is unfortunate, though entirely expected for me—and I anticipate my period should arrive within the next few days. Consequently, I find myself undecided as to whether I ought to commence the pills immediately or simply wait. 🤷

I fail to see the utility in experimenting with alternatives when my previous prescription served me perfectly. To be fair, I did find myself pondering the recent media coverage regarding Yasmin, though my physician assured me there was no cause for alarm and that the outcry was largely overstated. Any medication carries inherent risks if misused, and certainly, not every pill is suited for every individual. It is essential to recognize that Yasmin, for instance, poses specific risks for women over thirty-five, smokers, those with diabetes, or individuals managing weight issues. While instructions and clinical guidance are provided with these pills, many people unfortunately neglect to read them.

During my time on them, everything remained quite stable. I actually noticed clearer skin, less oily hair, and even experienced some slight weight loss 🙂

I have a question for those currently taking Yasmin: how frequently do you schedule check-ups, and what specific screenings do you undergo?

Maria Newman2 said:Well, I figured that out... it just doesn't seem to add up to me, since I can pick up Trinovum right off the shelf at the drugstore $4.75!!!! So, I guess, how much would these ones actually cost?

The Yasmin line is certainly the most expensive, but I find I have little regret regarding the cost if the results prove truly effective.

Maria Newman2 said:I suppose it really shouldn't be any of your business what I can afford on a prescription, so I’m not entirely sure why you’re making such a fuss about the price or commenting on it at all. I mean, I guess I should probably explain that I am a student, and... $33 It seems to me that there is quite a bit of it, though I suppose it could all still be used for a recipe.🤔

Look, just because a pill is prescription doesn't mean it's free. 🙄

You might get a sample script for Yasmin, but you're still paying for it. $33

Ultimately, I have weighed all the pros and cons and decided to resume the medication, both for my ovarian issues and my irregular cycles. $33 It isn't a steep price to pay if it resolves these matters, or at least provides some relief 🙂. Besides, I’ve taken them before and experienced zero side effects; everything was perfectly fine.

The only thing I need to know is whether I should wait until my next period to start, or if I can begin immediately. If I have to wait for my cycle, I'll be waiting quite a while... 😢

Maria Newman2 maintains a presence that is both sparse and undeniably composed. Her contributions are marked by a certain dignified restraint, delivered through prose that is as measured as it is definitive. kaže:
I suppose you are implying that I am telling you how I feel. $33 Too expensive? That’s a rather reductive way to frame the matter.☕

And really, what exactly is considered strange about that? Not everyone has money to throw around recklessly. 🙄

You clearly misunderstood my intention regarding the medication... naturally, it was prescribed following a consultation with my physician. After a year of treatment, I had blood work performed to ensure everything remained within normal parameters, and the results were perfectly satisfactory.

I find myself seeking some perspective here, as I am quite uncertain about how to proceed and certainly lack professional expertise in this matter.

Historically, my menstrual cycles have been highly irregular, though I never gave the issue much thought. At eighteen, I began taking Yasmin; I had been with my boyfriend for several years at the time, and we decided it was our most practical contraceptive option. It successfully regulated my cycle. I used them for two years before stopping for a few reasons—primarily because sexual activity isn't frequent since he lives in another city, and because the price of Yasmin rose significantly at $33. As a college student, even small price hikes at $33 make a substantial difference in my budget, often leaving me short on funds for medication.

Since stopping, my cycles have become incredibly erratic again, sometimes lagging by as much as two months. My doctor noted that one ovary is slightly enlarged and that there are a few small cysts present, though he assured me it wasn't anything serious. He suggested I return to Yasmin specifically to manage the irregularity. This presents a dilemma. I am hesitant to restart hormonal contraceptives when they aren't currently necessary for birth control. Does it make sense to take them solely for cycle regulation? Furthermore, could these irregular cycles lead to long-term consequences?

Additionally, following the media controversy surrounding Yasmin, I have developed a certain level of skepticism. While I recognize that journalists often sensationalize issues, it remains a concern for me. Not to mention the reaction from my parents when I first mentioned I was using those specific pills 🙄
