Kevin Brooks said:You’d probably defend some piece of garbage that just wanders aimlessly around the screen for two hours—as long as you see the Marvel logo right at the start, that's all that matters to you.

I can see how much respect you have for me based on that, and honestly, what kind of language is that to use toward a lady? I mentioned "bad directors" earlier and a few other things, but I was also recently disappointed here by a movie and by what Taika Waititi is doing to this entire franchise.

But I find meaning where others don't. Even TheCanadianLad criticized this film through both subtle and overt messages. He praised a few good parts, but just like me, he isn't a fan of what Taika Waititi did with the whole Thor setup, or how Gorr is criminally underused. (Same goes for Hela, which sounds familiar, but I blame the casting and maybe Kevin Feige, who keeps casting expensive "big name" actors and ends up killing their characters.)

I’ve also had my rants on the Avengers 3 and 4 threads regarding the plot, so, ma'am, what you wrote doesn't really apply to me.

I still can't believe how "low-class" people can get on this forum sometimes. 😵

To circle back to the movie

It’s incredibly grating how they turned Thor into such an infantile idiot

Depression is a heavy thing. Avengers: Endgame showed us a version of Thor that went through this massive character shift in just a few scenes. We saw him determined enough to take down Thanos, and he succeeded—but it didn't bring him any peace. It’s similar to Wanda, who killed Vision, yet it left her feeling nothing. Then, he starts acting out, trying to bury those depressive thoughts by basically making a fool of himself. Does that sound familiar to anyone else? I mean, look at Loki. Sure, he's the God of Mischief, so he uses tricks to cope, but it's there. So much happens under the surface, but because of the directing, the focus gets pulled toward things that don't actually matter.

Thor did what a lot of people end up doing when they’re spiraling—he leaned into some kind of self-destructive vice. In this case, it was alcohol. When you combine drinking with that specific mindset of making a fool out of yourself just to drown out depressive thoughts, you pretty much get exactly what we saw in Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder.

It’s a lot like what Wanda Maximoff went through in Dr. Strange 2. Depression basically stripped away her sanity. Once that Darkhold opened up all those insane possibilities, she couldn't just walk away from them. It was either that, or just go back to living this hollow, depressed life where she can't move on from Vision, while picking up kids from an orphanage just to play house. From her perspective, that isn't really a life at all. She’s been through absolute hell since she was a kid during the bombings in Sokovia. Growing up in such terrible conditions... those formative years left scars that you just don't forget.

Thor and Loki both deal with their depression in their own ways. It's different, sure, but in a lot of ways, they're actually pretty similar. They just need a grand purpose to cling to. 😁 And of course, you need that spark to get it moving. 🎉

crimsonmoose3 said:It’s just a dead root anyway, not a living thing... Given how many limbs Groot has lost by now, there'd probably be a whole army of tiny little Groots wandering through space...

Hmm. When the rabbit put that twig in a pot at the end of the first Guardians of the Galaxy, what actually happened? I feel like the same thing happened with Stormbreaker's handle, making Stormbreaker a sort of sentient being in its own right.

If Taika Waititi didn't maintain any meaningful continuity with that brilliant concept—you know, a cold, conscious weapon that can actually summon the Bifrost—then honestly, that's on him. But hey, jokes aside, even Groot talks trash constantly.😁

It was recently confirmed that Nie DaCoste directed the mid-credits scene in The Avengers. On top of that, they actually built a brand new set to completely replicate Kamala's room.

Thor 4 took a massive hit in its second week, pulling in just $45 million here in the States. As you might expect, the global total is sitting at $415 million right now. Honestly, it’s looking like a stretch to even hit the $800 million mark. I’m personally bracing for something closer to $700 million; everything really hinges on that third week, which was absolutely vital for a movie like Dr. Strange 2.

Mark White11 said:Ugh, man, this was just rough. It felt like Christian Bale was starring in a completely different movie—his acting is way too intense for such a total mess.
That whole love triangle involving the hammer, the axe, and Thor is hands down the worst thing I've seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. 👎

The scenes where Stormbreaker acts jealous are actually brilliant. I think people are missing the point, which really just shows how much attention to detail the MCU puts in. Stormbreaker's handle is actually part of Groot's body—there are scenes where Thor picks up the axe he supposedly "buried," and you can see the roots growing. That one scene alone is genius; the axe is basically sentient and "alive," kind of like Dr. Strange's cloak.

Mjolnir, on the other hand, senses Jane because Thor gave the Hammer a spell similar to Odin's from the first movie during those flashback scenes.

Grace Edwards said:That has nothing to do with the budget or how much money it made.
The plot was terrible, the pacing felt like a lullaby, the jokes were pure cringe, and the acting was just wooden.
Honestly, I feel like a war veteran whenever those flashbacks from that movie pop up in my head. 🐔

Only if you catch the joke with the Eternals can they be "digestible." They’re basically just a group of fancy robots, as Kingo put it. A movie featuring twelve Terminators who can't evolve ends up with flat emotions on some level, so there's no empathy or real human connection. That's why the plot and pacing suffer, but personally, I thought the Eternals were interesting and actually enjoyed the film. Zhao knew what she was doing, so she leaned into visuals that blew me away; the IMAX scenes are pure eye candy.

What bothers me overall is how little Arishem is mentioned in other MCU films; that sense of danger he created is gone. That scene in New York City is terrifying—you feel like this being could destroy Earth at any second, yet he just leaves. And after that, there are no references to Tiamut's fossilized body in the Pacific Ocean or any mention of Arishem's visit in other movies or series. I'm curious if Black Panther 2 will mention Tiamut's body or the Exit, since that affects all the Atlanteans who will be fighting Wakanda in the sequel.

To tie this back to Thor so I'm not going off-topic: let's say Thor 4 showed Eternity, which is connected to whatever gave Galactus his power—someone who could potentially start eating worlds, which might disrupt the plans of the Celestials or even Arishem...

Dr. Strange showed a universe where Reed might have taken over the World Forge...

Eternals isn't really a flop in that sense; I feel like if a Marvel movie doesn't pull in billions, you guys just label it a failure immediately. And speaking of Thor The Four, Taika went way too far, and honestly, Feige should probably move on from him in the MCU right away. Klovan is the director.

vividmarlin11 said:The idea, the script, the tone—it’s all over the place. A complete mess. Someone actually wrote this well enough, but they should have just cut Gorr (Christian Bale) entirely—the guy is such a massive outlier that he feels like he accidentally wandered in from a completely different movie.

Watching two hours of forced jokes is exhausting. It's like the writers are following some rigid formula where they feel obligated to cram in a punchline every single minute.

Since Endgame, Marvel has been wandering aimlessly without a clear direction. They're just churning out these episodic superhero stories, probably milking the cash cow until the audience finally gets sick of it.

Actually, I think the MCU really spread its wings after Endgame by leaning into those specific types of stories. For instance, the Eternals might have been a total flop during the Infinity Saga. Now, the focus is on the Multiverse, Kang, and F4. Everything else is either starting something brand new or continuing old threads.

Larry Walker24 said:Marvel's latest blockbuster is an overpriced disaster: ‘We were expecting the movie of the year, then this happened...‘

I guess it all comes down to how you look at it. The movie opened with $302 million worldwide ($143 million here in the States), despite having a rumored budget of $250 million. That massive price tag seems to be the result of constant creative shifts—they apparently scrapped entire scenes where the actors had already been paid their full share.

From what I've gathered, the original plan was for Gorr to kill off Grandmaster and Eitri (which would have led to him getting Stormbreaker before the final kill). Honestly, his bloody rampage would have felt a lot like what Thanos did in Avengers: Infinity War, so maybe that’s why they cut those parts out to avoid the comparison. There were also rumors about Lena Headey appearing as some other surviving Valkyrie from that war against Hel.

I should also mention that the sets were massive. The MCU really nailed the production design again with these huge environments, but obviously, that adds to the cost.

Basically, Thor 4 ended up being a victim of the pandemic, which caused so many moving parts and headaches during production. The MCU really cashed in on the Infinity Saga and Phase 3, and it looks like they can still churn out these giant blockbusters that pull in decent money, regardless of how people feel about the quality.

But the issue is there isn't enough "glue" holding everything together anymore. Because of that, a lot of people are labeling every single movie a flop, even if the box office numbers are actually okay. Even for someone like me, who's a huge MCU fan, it's becoming a real struggle just to keep track of everything.

Just finished watching, and I wanted to jot down a few thoughts without dropping any major spoilers:

- It’s actually better than Ragnarok.
- I had a feeling that Korg—voiced by Taika—was going to mess things up. That character feels like the court jester who nobody actually finds funny.
- The exact same formula that dragged down Ragnarok was applied here, too. Just too much humor where it doesn't belong.
- An older female character made an appearance; she could have been used more effectively, but I get why they played it safe.
- Gorr was fantastic. His backstory and dialogue were honestly better handled than Hela's, which is wild to say.
- The whole dynamic involving the kids felt fresh. Up until now, we've only seen the MCU touch on themes like this briefly, like in Iron Man 3 or even during Captain America in Civil War when Tony recruiting Peter happened.
- Maybe I'm exaggerating, but this might be the first MCU entry where you can actually feel the torch being passed from the old guard to the new heroes. Still, Thor is still there, and he’s one of the only ones left from the original Avengers besides Hulk.
- Personally, I thought the jokes about Stronger and Mjolnir went a bit overboard. Then again, we haven't really seen sentient weapons interacting like this before—kind of like if the other Dr. Strange's cape tried to switch over to our Stephen. Imagine a cloak fight XD.
- All in all, it would have been perfect if Taika hadn't forced Korg into every single scene. You don't put raisins in a chocolate cake just for the sake of it...

I’ve been reading through everyone's impressions of this, and honestly, it’s exactly what I expected from Taika. The humor feels way too heavy-handed at times; it really interrupts the flow of several scenes. I actually think Gorr is one of the strongest villains we've seen in Phase 4, but even then, it feels like Taika didn't quite lean into that potential. And Korg's jokes? Just felt unnecessary...

There’s been this version of the leaked plot for floating around on Twitter for a while now. It’s popping up on a ton of accounts, which makes it feel pretty consistent and likely accurate. This all started circulating right after the red carpet premiere.

I'm shouting this in bold letters!!!

The movie kicks off with a mission involving Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy, but afterward, Thor gets dumped in a place that looks a lot like some kind of rehab center. That’s where he finally reunites with Korg after a long time.

Jane, who is dealing with a tumor, visits New Asgard. Mjolnir, having been shattered, senses her presence and pulls itself back together. When Jane picks up Mjolnir, she becomes the female Thor. These powers stop her from feeling the weakness caused by the tumor, but they drain her human form, which actually just speeds up the tumor's growth.

Meanwhile, Gorr is searching for the God of Eternity because he lost his family and needs help. Since he can't find anyone at the place he visits, he comes across a sword capable of killing gods, so he swears an oath to kill every god he encounters.

Thor heads back to Earth and finally reunites with Jane after all this time—and of course, Valkyrie too. He tells them about the chaos Gorr is causing, and they decide to warn Zeus. They go to see him, only to discover he isn't much of a god at all, just a vessel of pure madness and malice. They barely escape after a fight, and Valkyrie manages to swipe Zeus's lightning.

Thor finds out about Jane’s tumor and begs her to stop using the Thor powers because it's killing her. She refuses, though, saying the powers provide an escape from the sad reality of living with her illness.

The three of them—Thor, Jane, and Valkyrie—go to confront Gorr. During the battle, Jane accidentally destroys Mjolnir and passes away. Seeing what he's done, Gorr decides to end his bloody crusade; in the process, his daughter is brought back to life, and Gorr dies from his wounds.

Thor meets Gorr’s daughter, and they head off on new adventures.

End of movie.

First post-credit scene: Zeus is furious with Thor, so he teams up with Hercules to hunt him down and kill him (maybe a hint for Thor 5?).

Second post-credit scene: Heimdall greets Jane in Valhalla.

It doesn't sound bad. A little cliché, maybe, but I think it'll be fun.

wiredcyclist18 said:Like someone already pointed out, you're drinking way too much of that incel YouTuber Kool-Aid. Just admit you're bothered by seeing women in positions of power. Sorry, but neither I nor probably 70% of Marvel fans WANT to sit through twenty movies featuring the exact same hero. They retired Iron Man, now Spider-Man's taking over. They retired Captain America, now we've got Falcon and Winter Soldier. It's time to retire Thor too, and he'll be succeeded by THE MIGHTY THOR—and strangely enough, I don't see any "-woman" attached to that name...

Oh, and by the way, you guys clearly haven't heard that Valkyrie has been confirmed as bisexual and they're actually going to touch on that in the movie... I honestly can't wait to watch your little incel meltdowns hit the internet this July.☕☕☕

The issue isn't really the movies themselves, but rather the phases. We were always waiting for something. In Phase One, the peak was Avengers. In Phase Two, it was Avengers 2 along with Ant-Man closing things out. Phase Three was literally the Infinity Saga.

During that stretch, Woke culture and SJW movements emerged, which started tearing down major film franchises. Brie Larson playing Carol—Captain Marvel—really opened Pandora's box. That’s when the MCU started to fracture; before that, I honestly didn't run into nearly this much noise regarding female heroes. On the contrary, people used to ask why we didn't have more of them. Now that we are getting female leads, everyone starts nitpicking every little detail.

This fourth phase is struggling because there’s just no hype, so the audience gets restless and starts looking for something to latch onto. Then they get lost and end up falling back into those same old SJW and Woke arguments. The MCU's biggest mistake was hyping up the Multiverse first, and then Kang second. We haven't even seen Kang in the movies yet, yet Doctor Strange was somehow involved in two whole Multiverse arcs that weren't even the kind of stakes we saw in the Loki series. That massive invasion in the finale wasn't even properly set up in a single movie.

I'm fine with these female leads: Kate is great, Chavez is solid, Mighty Thor is cool, She-Hulk is fun...

bluebison8 said:Gorr kills any god unfortunate enough to cross his blade. T'Challa isn't a god; he isn't even a divine avatar like Moon Knight. The Panther Goddess acts as the protector of Wakanda, granting a chosen individual powers comparable to Captain America, while the high-tech suit handles the rest.
And yes, maybe he'll kill her too. 😁
There is no prophecy involved here.

Thanks. I haven't been able to focus properly since my first shift ended. This guy is the King of Wakanda, not a god. My mistake, sorry. And right now, Wakanda doesn't have any active protector in the MCU; we haven't seen Bast or Sekhmet actually interact with the heroes. We've only seen the afterlife, which suggests Bast and Sekhmet just watch over souls and apparently don't care to meddle with the real world.

This gives me major "What If...?" vibes, and honestly, it’s kind of creeping me out. Seeing something like this played out in live-action feels like way too much. It works fine for animation, but for a real-life action movie? Not so much.

At the same time, we basically have Ragnarok II on our hands. Let me break it down: Thor goes on an adventure, meets someone from his past, they start a new journey, Thor gets trapped on another world, and there's some prophecy waiting to take him out (Surtur, Gorr). All that's missing is a tie-in to the next big MCU spectacle—back then it would've been Avengers III with Thanos showing up, but now they could probably pivot toward something involving Secret Wars. I'm not expecting Kang, though.

We saw Thor and Jane walking hand-in-hand in black and white, and I'm just saying.

Hmm, so Gorr kills gods. Is that right? Wait, isn't T'Challa basically the god of Wakanda? Or maybe I'm misinterpreting things—maybe Gorr is just targeting those celestial types like Zeus or Thor...
Thoughts on Thor: Love and Thunder? in Movies ·
I can't say for certain, but my best guess is that Odin's curse from Thor 1 kicked in right after Hela smashed the hammer. I just don't see Jane as someone who'd be worthy of Mjolnir—though maybe I'm wrong, since she hasn't shown any real malice so far.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it actually plays out.

After watching that Batman movie, seeing this trailer feels like I'm just watching a teaser for Despicable Me instead.😁

Not sure how to put this—the humor feels a little forced to me

It seems Taika is just continuing to mess around with the whole Thor legacy, right after that "revolution" called Thor III that pretty much trashed everything we actually liked about the first two movies. But I guess cheap jokes and strong characters sell everywhere.

Charles Davis81 said:Great. In five years, every single Avenger is gonna be able to lift Mjolnir
Especially if they’re Black, a woman, or trans

Hela broke Mjolnir, which means the hammer lost Odin's enchantment—the part that ensures anyone worthy can wield the full power of Thor, the God of Thunder. So you're right, any random person could pick it up now because the magic is gone.

Anyway, this is the first MCU film that reminds me painfully of that disaster *What If...?*. I really hope I'm wrong.

Charles Brown9 said:Do you think Gorr is being set up as the primary villain for this next phase?

Not necessarily. But looking through some comic wikis, I’m seeing quite a few connections. Knull’s Necrosword seems to be linked to Hela’s helmet in the MCU, which lets her summon those ice weapons.

Then there's Dane Whitman, aka the Black Knight—he ends up coming into contact with the Ebony Sword at the end of Eternals. In the comics, Knull definitely knows about that blade.

And from what I've gathered in the books, Knull went to war with a Celestial and decapitated him because he was messing with his realm in the Dark Void. That head actually became Knowhere. Just a "TIL" moment for me. 🙂

It feels like everything is heading toward either a hint in Thor 4 or setting things up for Eternals 2. Guardians 3 will probably have a different villain entirely, totally separate from the Eternals or Thor stuff.

From what I can see, Kang is going to be the major antagonist, and the Multiverse plotline will likely carry through several movies. Plus, I suspect we’re going to see some wild stuff in the second season of Loki. 🙂

Edit:

Check out the latest t-shirt designs hitting the stores. They aren't bad.

That seems to be one of the things the MCU has been pushing lately, especially since Phase 4 started. It’s either a hyper-realistic suit or something totally basic. There isn't really a middle ground...
