Are we even talking about context here?

Look, if they actually managed to catch the real criminals for once, maybe women wouldn't feel the need to sprint across a busy street just to beat someone else to the trash can.😉

Dennis Martin6 said:The kid isn't even the main focus here. The whole movie just gives this super vague, surface-level look at what war does to a child, which I guess is how your average person imagines it anyway. They could've used some actual narration to ground things, but instead, they wasted it all on those pathetic little conversations the boy has with Bob. And honestly, that’s the biggest kicker: the entire film feels like a cheap knockoff of a Terrence Malick flick. It doesn't have its own soul, so everything that happens just feels fake and staged.

And who was he even talking to when he was totally alone?
I mean, let's be real—he was just talking to himself.
But hey, since he got swallowed up by the meat grinder of war, I guess those weird little interludes aren't totally out of place.

Sean Bailey75 said:Alright, fine, then who actually gets to pick the top ten killer Sci-Fi movies from this whole massive wave? And ideally, ones we haven't already seen a million times.

As far as the newer stuff goes (anything from 2010 onwards), there are definitely some underrated gems in the mix:

Chappie (2015)
Ex Machina (2015)
Lucy (2014)
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
Under the Skin (2013)
Snowpiercer (2013)
Looper (2012)
Dredd (2012)
Source Code (2011)

And that’s not even my actual top 10.

Honestly though, I'm pretty stoked with how much high-quality Sci-Fi we've been getting lately.☕

It stinks, it just smells absolutely terrible.

The Martian is basically just a massive metaphor for how humans can stay unshakable and optimistic even when everything is going to hell, so if you look at it that way, it’s actually totally fine.

Amanda Garcia57 said:I’m talking about movies like The Martian. Films that lean into pure fantasy and have zero connection to actual reality, yet they somehow blow the audience away—sometimes even bordering on fanaticism, like what we're seeing here. That's my point. It’s honestly kind of worrying to me: creating this massive cult following based on stuff that has nothing to do with real life.

Look, you're totally off base on this movie😉

If you had picked Interstellar, I might actually get where you're coming from, but trying to group this modern Robinson Crusoe flick in with those? That's a massive fail on your part.☕

Visual effects have leveled up so fast lately that it’s honestly no surprise we’re seeing this massive explosion in popularity,
plus, when you're talking about cinema, you get these incredibly lush and engaging sets,
where some lazy writer can just pull a total deus ex machina out of their sleeve whenever they get stuck. ☕

I'm with you on that one, and thanks for the heads-up on the recommendation. 👍

Hands down the best movie from 2015. It’s an absolute Oscar lock!

Raymond Wood77 said:As far as I'm concerned, the movie itself is actually pretty solid. My only real gripe is that the subtitles haven't dropped yet, and man, trying to follow that African accent without them is a total struggle. It's tough to catch everything they're saying.😁

Got a title? ☕

Weekly Pick: Ennio Morricone in Music ·
I mean, I could’ve easily voted for every single track on this thing, no question. But look, I just picked the ones that hit hardest when you imagine them playing over a movie scene. That’s the whole point of film scoring, right? It’s all about that perfect symbiosis between the sound and the screen. Honestly, the guy is a straight-up genius. We’re talking top-tier stuff here—he’s right up there with the greatest composers in human history.

Why the hell was all that loudmouth nonsense even necessary? No matter how you slice it, we’re stuck working with Mexico on this whole refugee situation anyway,
and instead of actually leaning into it—building some real, long-term partnership since we honestly need each other for trade and transit stability—you just decided to run a total circus. It was nothing but pointless political theater.
Look, this isn't some private club where you can just go swinging wildly like a rookie in a backyard brawl thinking you're untouchable.
But hey, let everyone judge for themselves if that move actually made sense. If you ask me, it's a classic case of massive overhead with zero payoff, which seems to be the standard whenever we're running the show.
