Excellent film. Offers a raw look at the lives of child soldiers in African conflicts.

Since we're talking about Netflix, they actually pulled it from the platform just a few hours ago...

Torrents for the film have been floating around the web for about two months now. Interest spiked today following its theatrical premiere; it’s officially met the requirements for an Oscar.

You're talking nonsense; I watched that movie myself. It’s been out for a few hours now.

Grabbed the torrent yesterday and everything went super smooth

As for the movie itself, I thought it was pretty solid, though the subtitles haven't been uploaded yet, so trying to parse that thick African accent they're using is a bit of a struggle😁

I'm with you on that one, and thanks for the heads-up on the recommendation. 👍

Hands down the best movie from 2015. It’s an absolute Oscar lock!

Raymond Wood77 said:As far as I'm concerned, the movie itself is actually pretty solid. My only real gripe is that the subtitles haven't dropped yet, and man, trying to follow that African accent without them is a total struggle. It's tough to catch everything they're saying.😁

Got a title? ☕

Only a few comments on this amazing movie? 🤷

It was honestly so unique, heavy, and heartbreaking. The whole cast killed it, especially Idris Elba—it’s like he was born to play this part 🙏

I'm definitely following Fukunaga from here on out, he really proved himself

Anyway, I tried doing a little digging online, but I can't find much info on those groups or the specific area where it all takes place 🤔

The plot is fictional, so the setting isn't specified.

Here’s my first take on the movie:

"A fantastic and brutal film about a boy who turns into a cold-blooded soldier and killer under the command of the charismatic Idris Elba.
The camerawork and direction really stand out—Fukunaga does an amazing job, especially in that one scene where the main kid is tripping on drugs and everything shifts into these wild colors right in the middle of a battle.
Elba has such an incredible presence on screen and he’s great, but honestly? The kid playing the lead steals the whole show. His acting is just unreal—in his final scene, you can see how much raw talent he has because he says everything just with his eyes. I'm guessing English isn't even his first language, which makes it even more impressive.
If I had to nitpick, the movie feels a little long—it drags a bit in certain spots.
"

After letting it sit for a few weeks, the story is definitely still stuck in my head, which is exactly what a great movie should do.

The main kid isn't even fully fleshed out. The movie just gives this super vague look at what war is like for a child—probably exactly how your average viewer imagines it would go down. They could've actually done something with the narration, but instead, they wasted it on some pathetic little boy monologues to God. And here’s the real kicker: the whole thing is basically a carbon copy of Terrence Malick films. It has zero identity of its own, which makes the entire sequence of events feel fake and totally staged.

I feel like I might have mentioned this earlier, but isn't this basically just a spiritual successor to Johnny Mad Dog (2008) ?

Dennis Martin6 said:It honestly feels like just another Terrence Malick rip-off—it doesn't even have its own identity. Because it's trying so hard to mimic his style, everything that happens on screen just feels fake and super forced.

Thank God it’s not like those Malick movies—if it were, we'd be stuck watching some unwatchable, pretentious snooze-fest instead.

silentcanyon58 said:I feel like I’ve already brought this up somewhere—isn't this just a new... Man, I just finished watching Johnny Mad Dog (2008) and... wow. My head is honestly spinning. It’s such a heavy, gut-wrenching experience—definitely not something you just watch casually while eating popcorn. It’s this incredibly raw and intense look at how war completely destroys childhood. You see these kids, who should be playing ball in a park somewhere in the Midwest, instead being forced into this nightmare of violence. It’s heartbreaking. Truly one of those movies that stays with you long after the credits roll.?

I haven't seen it yet, but honestly, they sound pretty similar—definitely sounds like something worth checking out!

And what about all those "conversations with God" scenes? Pretentious as hell, right? Plus, sitting through 140 minutes of that—wasn't that just a massive bore?

Signed an appointment with my urologist... honestly, I found parts of the movie a bit slow, and that whole scene where they start praying to Bob was definitely the worst part for me.
