Maybe player rotation is the secret sauce here. They’re cycling through 9 guys at the number 7 spot, while we’re over here juggling 14.
🙂

So, the Frenchmen.

The absolute biggest thing about them is how they stick to that standard lineup. Those six guys in the attack basically play the full 60 minutes without breaking a sweat. You could see exactly what I mean during those second-round games against Spain and Germany. It was wild—Omeyer clocked in at 59 plus 60 minutes, Gille B pulled 55 and 53, Girault did 60 plus 60, Narcisse hit 45 and 57, Karabatic put up 54 and 58, Fernandez had 40 and 36, and Abalo ran 59 and 52. Just relentless.

So, looking at the offense, we're basically just running with one Gille out there right now, and honestly? He’s barely even putting points on the board. It’s rough. We've got Dinart helping out on the pivot, but let's be real—he's a defensive specialist through and through, so don't expect much from him when we're on the attack. And man, the roster feels empty. For a bunch of different reasons, we're missing heavy hitters like Guigou, Abalo, and Burdet. It's a different game without them.

Man, they really struggled through that first phase. They barely scraped past the Slovaks by just one goal—it was a total nail-biter. It was sitting at 31-27, then went to 31-31, before Fernandez finally stepped up and buried the winner. Honestly, everyone on the starting lineup was basically just trading 4 or 6 goals back and forth. Then they faced the Swedes and managed to pull away for a four-goal win. They actually led pretty comfortably for most of it, staying about 4 to 8 goals ahead. After that, they had a walk in the park against Iceland, winning by 9. The second round was a different story. Against the Spaniards, things were dead even until the 35th minute. Then they flipped a switch, went on a 6:1 run, and just took control. The Spaniards didn't even look like a threat; they only managed to close the gap to one goal right at the end. When they played Germany, their backcourt line was absolutely lethal—they scored 20 out of the team's 26 goals. It was neck and neck until the 50th minute, but then they went on a 4:1 tear to seal it. That last game against the Canadians? Total bust. But hey, they were resting all their starters, so I guess it makes sense.

Goalkeeper. I can't even begin to process that. Just... yeah. Omeyer The guy doesn't exactly have flashy stats, but he’s solid. He’s pulled off 35 saves on option shots, which puts him right at 10th on the scoring list. Plus, he’s actually logging a full 60 minutes out there.

Pivot. I can't even begin to process this. What are we even doing here? Bertrand Gille Who actually got heavy minutes during those big games in the second round? His scoring is all over the place—one minute he’s going 1 for 2, the next he’s hitting 4 out of 5. He's playing alongside... Dinart I mean, the guy's basically scoring every other game at this point. And he's only pulling 25 minutes on the defensive end? That's wild.

Left wing. I can't even deal with this right now. Just... yeah. Girault He also logged a full 60 minutes in the last two big games. He wasn't exactly lighting it up against the Germans, but before that, he was on fire, dropping five goals a game.

Left wingers. je Narcisse Who on earth is this guy coming in around the 45th minute and dropping 5 to 7 goals a game? Guillaume Gille swaps him in, and suddenly he can barely scrape one goal together. Honestly, I’ve never been much of a fan of Narcisse, but man, you can't deny the guy is absolutely tearing it up right now.

Middle wing. I can't even begin to deal with this right now. Seriously. Just... yeah. Karabatic And he’s playing heavy minutes, too. Top scorer for the squad. Honestly, there isn't even much to say about him—he's just doing his thing.

Right wing. The position of the towel. Fernandez Who plays 40 minutes and still manages to drop 4 or 5 goals a game?

Right wing. I'm sorry, I didn't catch that. You only typed "je". What's on your mind? Abalo Who else is playing basically every single minute and still dropping 3 or 4 goals per game?

The rest of the guys? Honestly, they barely mattered. Paty, Guilbert, and Kempe were lucky if they even saw seven or eight minutes of action per game. And even when they were out there, they didn't really do much of anything.

Omeyer in goal? Man, what a beast. Thierry, standing 6'3" and weighing about 205 lbs, born November 2, 1976. Currently holding down the net for THW Kiel.

Out of nowhere in the second half yesterday, the Norwegian coach pulled Hagen and put in Kjelling. This guy didn't even see the floor today... honestly, this old-timer is gonna be the death of them.

Brandon Castillo4 said:Man, this Tvedten guy is an absolute beast. But honestly? That Norwegian squad has all the stamina and pure speed in the world—they could run marathons at this point. Meanwhile, we’re looking pretty gassed and half our roster is playing through injuries.

Nah, not happening... they totally choked against the Canadians. We're sitting just one goal away from the semifinals, while those guys are gonna be in a much better spot than us heading into the second half.

The Germans in the semis 🤷
Handball EP - Norway 2008 in Other Sports ·
Norway and Sweden are moving on from this EP to the Olympic qualifiers.

The Canadians fell just two goals short. They were sitting pretty at 15-11 against France's B team, but then they completely choked and ended up with just a +3 margin. They really needed at least +5 to stay in the hunt.

Btw, Iceland is already in the qualifiers because of how they placed in the World Cup.

Qualifiers: 2 teams advance from each group

1) If we take the title or lose the final to the Swabians

1-Poland, Iceland, winner of Swe/Nor (for 5th place), Argentina
2-Denmark, Spain, Tunis, loser of Swe/Nor (for 5th place)
3-France, Russia, Algeria, losers of Kor/Jap

2) If the Frenchmen take the title or lose the final to the Swabians

1-Poland, Iceland, winner of Swe/Nor (for 5th place), Argentina
2-Denmark, Spain, Tunis, loser of Swe/Nor (for 5th place)
3-USA, Russia, Algeria, losers of Kor/Jap

3) If the Danes take the title

1-Poland, Iceland, winner of Swe/Nor (for 5th place), Argentina
2-France, Spain, Tunis, loser of Swe/Nor (for 5th place)
3-USA, Russia, Algeria, losers of Kor/Jap

Worst case scenario? We end up hosting the weakest tournament ever.

They aren't going to catch fire. Their left wing is the only one actually playing with any real heat... if we just shut that guy down, it's lights out for America.

This Jeppesen guy is a straight-up psychiatric case study... honestly looks like a mass shooter... he nearly snapped the bench in half when he got kicked out, and before that, he was basically having a showdown with his own alter ego.

Roger Allen3 said:tell me, are the French still running that same core eight 😁 guys like Omeaer, Dinart, Fernandez, Karabatic, Girault, Abalo, Gille, and Narcisse?

Yeah😁

But they have zero depth. These guys are basically playing all 60 minutes, plus Dinart is glued to the defense. And Fernandez? He's just out there covering everyone else's mistakes.
Handball Europe: America vs. Norway 23-23 in Other Sports ·
Forget the hype, I already laid it all out for you in my first post. 😠😁

So, Hagen is their top scorer playing left back (he’s got those nasty sudden shots). It’s actually a decent setup since Kjelling plays the same spot and he isn't quite 100% yet. He usually gets about 12 minutes, but yesterday he played 17 and dropped 7 goals (4 from the penalty line)—mostly just when the game was already decided. Interestingly, Hagen was holding his own before they swapped him for Kjelling.

Regarding the pivots, honestly, it's great that Loke is sidelined. Their second option is only getting minutes because of the rotation, but he’s been incredibly efficient. He was absolutely tearing through the Americans in the first half. Jensen has only managed one goal the entire tournament, and then there's Myrhol playing maybe 15-20 minutes. Jensen was sitting in the stands yesterday; some American commentator was rambling about him being suspended or something (?), though he definitely didn't earn a red card.

Here’s the quick breakdown:

Goalkeeper - EGE Steinar FCK København 188/1 35g. - saves 14-29-3-15-14
Pivot - JENSEN Johnny Flensburg Handewitt 174/283 35g. - goals 0-0-1-0-0
Pivot (third choice) - MYRHOL Bjarthe HSG Nordhorn 55/88 25g. - goals 1-3-0-0-2
Left Wing - TVEDTEN Håvard Nature House La Rioja 120/393 29g. - goals 8(6pen)-6(4)-5(3)-0-1(1)
Left Wing (second choice) - SKOGLUND Thomas - goals 0-0-0-4-3
Left Back - HAGEN Frode Drammen HK 181/541 33g. - goals 6-9-3-3-5
Left Back (second choice) - KJELLING Kristian Portland San Antonio 94/332 27g. - goals 0-2-4-1-7(3)
Left Back (third choice) - STRAND Kjetil Fuchse Berlin 69/351 28g. - goals 0-1-0-9(3)-1
Center Back - SOLBERG Glenn Drammen HK 115/239 35g. - goals 3-0-3-0-1
Right Wing - LAURITZEN Jan Thomas Bjerringbro-Silkeborg 247/549 33g. - goals 3-0-4-1-0
Right Wing - SKJÆRVOLD Rune Stord TIL 102/212 33g. - goals 0-2-0-2-1

Basically, looking at the heavy hitters, Loke is out, and instead of their usual left wing Tvedten, they've had Skoglund playing the last two games.

Bottom line? Their biggest threat is pretty much limited to the left back position now. The center back was a disaster yesterday, the right wing has only scored once in the last two matches, and the right wing isn't doing anything special either. The new left wing (Skoglund) is alright. But yeah, main pivot is out.

Anyway, anyone got thoughts on this...

The trupac is back. Let's go!

Check out these numbers though... in his very first game, he racked up 6 blocks (averaging 6.0). To put that in perspective, Laluska was sitting at 2.4, and Špoljarić had 1.8.

31-24 53 min.

The Canadians are putting up a hell of a fight defensively. The Norwegians aren't exactly giants, and they're looking a bit weathered out there—they just can't seem to break through.

As for the starting lineup, Jensen, their first pivot, has been pulled for the bench. Loke is in now, though I mentioned earlier he was dealing with an injury.

Another sub coming in. For some reason, Tvedten isn't seeing much time at left wing; instead, we've got Skoglund stepping in, and he only really played against the Poles. Something definitely feels off here. Everything else stays the same as my first post.
Handball Europe: America vs. Norway 23-23 in Other Sports ·
The Norwegians are absolutely struggling against the Canadians right now. Their offense is a total disaster; the Canadians are picking them apart like they’re little kids. They keep trying these crazy low passes in the attack, but it just ends up hitting a wall. 35-year-old center back Solberg is having a rough one, and Kjelling looks completely lost in space. To make matters worse, their best player from the first half, pivot Loke, is OUT WITH AN INJURY, and the wings are basically invisible. Lacković, Balić, and Metla are going to have plenty of room to work with tomorrow, so they better capitalize on it. Meanwhile, Pajović and Natek are just carving them up—they're getting to the 7-meter line without breaking a sweat.
Handball Europe: America vs. Norway 23-23 in Other Sports ·
Man, Ege is basically carrying like 50, maybe even 70 percent of the load for the Americans. This guy already racked up 11 saves in the first half. I mean, sure, that lone Kozomara managed to catch him in the body three times from the line, but still... his goalkeeping is just phenomenal. As for the American offense, they're pretty much stuck just passing to the line. It works for them, though—Lund dropped 5 goals. And that left back, Hagen, bagged 3; he’s a real pain because of those sudden shots. The rest of their attackers? Forget about it.

Lapajne is guarding the net well, which means our guys better step it up too. If they stick to a 6-0 defense against us, it could actually be a solid game for Ivan. Otherwise, Lacković is going to have to slide in on the right side and take those 7-meter shots, just like the broom does. That's what's working for Natek and Kavtičnik right now.

If it wasn't for Ege, and if the Canadians hadn't missed those easy shots at the line, the Europeans probably would've been up by about five.
Handball EP - Norway 2008 in Other Sports ·
Canadians just got wrecked by Iceland. Here’s how the math looks now:

1. France 8
2. Sweden 5
3. Germany 4
4. Canada 3

France-Canada
Germany-Sweden... which means Germany clinches a spot in the semis with a win, while the Swedes just need one point to slide through.
Handball Europe: America vs. Norway 23-23 in Other Sports ·
🙂

Writing this at halftime during the Denmark vs. Poland game (it’s sitting at 17-13). If things don't turn around soon, we're basically looking at needing a win against the Norwegians—and if that happens, they're out of the semifinals entirely.

Even if the Norwegians drop this one, they’re still pretty much set to clinch a spot in the Olympic qualifiers. Honestly, I have no idea how much that goal is actually weighing on them right now. All I know is their defense is absolutely lethal—they completely tore Dance apart.

Our odds:
Against Mexico, we were missing Sulić, Horvat, Caleb, and Lacković from the lineup, and Balić only managed about 20 minutes on the court. That could end up being a huge deal.
The starting lineup for Norway has an average age of 33.
The pressure is really on for the Americans now that they're playing on home turf.
The pressure is real, especially since making a semifinal is basically uncharted territory for them.
The Norwegians don't really have one standout superstar right now; for some reason, Kjelling—who’s easily their most famous player—is barely getting any playing time.
The bench is looking pretty thin right now. Between the fatigue setting in and having solid subs only for left wing and pivot, we're definitely feeling the squeeze.
Almost the entire starting lineup is playing up in Scandinavia.

Norway:
goalkeeper:

The standout guy on this Norwegian squad has gotta be their goalkeeper. Ege So, who was the guy who put up an insane 29 saves against the Russians? Because in the other two games where he played the full duration, he was averaging about 14 saves per match. Crazy stats.
Pivot:
The Norwegians have got the defense locked down, but man, they really don't have anything on us when it comes to the best pivot in the game. Jensen He's 35 and has only managed one goal during this tournament so far. Still, he's a solid sub if you need him. Loke He’s averaging about 3 to 4 goals every 24 minutes. Plus, Myrhol is getting plenty of playtime too.
Left wing:
He's easily one of the top scorers on the roster. Tvedten But let's be real, more than half his goals come from the penalty line. Against Poland, he barely even saw the floor—only played 17 minutes and went 0 for 2 on shots before Skoglund came in to sub him out. And Skoglund, who hadn't even touched the court before that, ended up going 4 for 5.
Left wing:
The top scorer is playing right here. Hagen The guy's dropping 5 or 6 goals like it's nothing. Honestly, it’s kind of weird seeing him play this much given how they usually handle things over there. Kjelling Who is this guy? He’s only been on the court for like ten minutes and he’s already dropped two goals. He absolutely lost his mind during that game against Poland. Strand Dropped 9 goals.
Mid-range exterior:
It’s pretty standard. SOLBERG He plays a ton of minutes, but his scoring is all over the place—one day he’s up 3-0, the next he’s totally cold. Lund steps in for him every now and then.
Right wing:
They're skinny and they've got nothing. Lauritzen Which one’s actually getting full minutes? He's all over the place too (could be 3-0, could be 0-4-1).
Right wing:
I'm here. Skjaervold The guy who averages two goals a game and stays on the floor the whole time.

So, the French played with six attackers on offense for pretty much the whole sixty minutes and still managed to take down the Germans 26-23. Honestly... that’s a solid pick for the semifinals 🙂. Their backcourt—Narcissus, Karabatic, and Fernandez—was absolutely lethal, putting up 5-7-8 for a total of 20 goals.

If the Canadians pull an upset against Iceland today:

1. France 8
2. Canada 5
3. Sweden 5
4. Germany 4

France-Canada
Germany-Sweden

The French would be crazy to run their starters hard against a Canadian squad that’d head straight to the semis with a win like that. The only way things change is if the Swedes beat the Germans by a decent margin, say 2 or 3 goals. Right now, Germany is counting on a win and some "serious business" from Gal.

Man, what a win for the Swedes against the Spaniards.

The Vikings were up by 2 with just 5 minutes left on the clock, and then... nothing. Total deadlock until the 59:58 mark. The Spaniards finally clawed back to tie it, but then—get this—on their penultimate possession, they didn't even draw a penalty despite some heavy-handed fouling on Garabaja. Immediately after, the Swedes get the power play and a penalty. Hombrados steps up to save it. Spain gets one last shot with 10 seconds left. With 5 seconds to go, Svensson makes the save, launches a counter, and some Swede just hammers it into an empty net while the keeper was still scrambling. Absolute madness. 🤣

Looks like the Spaniards are officially out of the hunt for the semifinals, while the Swedes are right on the doorstep of qualifying for the Olympics.
