Exactly. It wasn't just about the weight or the cellulite (god, 😁 ), it was the family history of diabetes. Given how much sugar I used to inhale, I was basically sprinting toward a disaster. Just thinking about the amputations, the blindness, and all that other nightmare fuel 😢 linked to diabetes... it's terrifying. At my last checkup, my doctor gave me a serious warning to cut back on the sweets and fats because my blood sugar was creeping up. Naturally, I panicked, but then came the first temptation 😛—and those pastries were impossible to resist. Not anymore, though. I’m feeling amazing now. Part of it is definitely the new menu, but honestly, I’ve wanted to change how I eat for ages; I just couldn't make it stick. Now? It’s a total piece of cake 👍 😁
Look, these two theories are total opposites, but hey, it's on us to test them out and see what sticks. Even Barry Sears points out that everyone reacts differently to carbs—some people spike insulin like crazy, others don't. We’re all built differently, so we need different ways to eat. For me, this is working perfectly fine. I don't feel like crap even though I'm staying under 1100 calories a day. I just pair low-cal veggies with lean meat, fish, or egg whites. I feel great and—get this—I'M NOT EVEN CRAVING SUGAR, woohoo! Today I baked a birthday cake for my little nephew, though I didn't touch a bite (who knows how much sugar is actually in there, haha), and I made some baklava for my parents. It was basically a science experiment. If someone had told me I’d be baking desserts without wanting to devour them, I would’ve called them insane! My house is always full of sweets being baked, but now I'm just the baker. 😉That's the part that blows my mind!!!!! 🙏 Anyone else feeling this? Anybody?
Charles Hill78, thanks for the info. Glad to hear it’s working for you too. Honestly, I haven't touched a cookie, a cracker, or a piece of chocolate in eight days now, and calling that a win feels right. The cravings? Gone. But the real victory is that I'm never actually hungry. That miserable, deprived feeling that used to haunt me through every cycle of starving and binging is just... dead. And look, if you actually sit down and study the Cookbook properly—for those who care to, obviously—you realize it’s not rocket science. What’s so complicated about a meal consisting of some cheese cubes and a glass of wine or beer? Absolutely nothing. Truly. Someone mentioned that a hamburger is fine, but I don't think it's that black and white; they were probably just showing how you can tweak that kind of eating to fit Zone principles. It’s not as pervasive here, but in the States, the junk food scene is a total disaster. I'm not saying go out and poison yourself with burgers, but like Charles Hill78 said, slipping up once isn't the end of the world. 🙂
Personally, following that 40:30:30 split per meal (carbs:protein:fats) feels like way too much fat to me.
Look, the whole point is that 30% of calories come from fats. Since fat packs 9 calories per gram, it's actually not that much. It’s the 30% protein requirement that kills me. Protein is only 4 calories per gram—good grief, who is actually going to eat that much salmon, chicken, and egg whites in one sitting?😁
So you get it—you're actually doing it—but you haven't shared any of your own Zone experiences yet. How’s it feeling after sticking to it for a while? Any real changes? I started out with 11 blocks (77 grams), but honestly, it was way too much food. I just couldn't stomach it all—three meals of 3+1 plus two snacks? It's a mountain of food. I dropped down to 10, but whatever, it doesn't matter. I just need to see if it works for me, and so far, I'm liking it. I'm not looking to drop massive weight since I don't have much to lose—just those stubborn 2 or 3 pounds that always hang around. I couldn't starve them off even though I hit the gym three times a week, and when I tried going carb-only, I was basically starving to death regardless of how much rice, salad, fruit, or pasta I shoved in my face. This seems to be working. The sugar cravings that were an absolute nightmare just seven days ago? Totally gone.
Just checking in to say something—short version: I’ve been on the Zone Diet for just seven days since I actually sat down and studied the Cookbook, and so far, it’s a total win. I’m already down 4 pounds, and honestly, I have no idea how, because I’ve been overdoing it—literally hitting 10 blocks just to see what happens. It’s wild; I’m eating maybe 1,000 calories a day, nothing more, yet I’m constantly full. None of that miserable, hollow feeling you get on those typical diets. My biggest struggle was what the book describes so perfectly—something I’m only just realizing now—that hellish carb cycle. It pushed me right to the edge of an eating disorder, if not past it. I was perpetually starving, whether I ate or not, because my "diet" consisted of nothing but fruit and veggies—carbs that spike insulin and leave you begging for more. Then, during the binge phases, I’d dive into junk food—you know the drill. I genuinely thought I’d need professional help—that endless loop of binging and dieting... it’s enough to make you lose your mind. And that constant hunger? Pure torture. I stumbled upon the book by pure chance and grabbed it. Look, I’m no fanatic, and I’m naturally pretty skeptical—I need to see things for myself first—but people, THIS STUFF ACTUALLY WORKS, IT REALLY DOES! Oh, one more thing—I should be dealing with brutal PMS right about now, but instead, I’m sitting here wondering what PMS even 😁 is ? There’s more, but duty calls... maybe a part two later. I’d love to hear what you all think (Ashley Ramos83, sorry, I missed your thread on this topic—can someone drop the link, please???) 🙂
Personally, I care a lot about what someone listens to. Music says everything you need to know about a person—it’s the ultimate litmus test for whether we'll actually click. If I walk into a spot and they're blasting cheesy country tracks by Elijah and Mark, I already know I'm out. No thanks. It's just like humor. If we laugh at the same things—mostly classic rock and the usual stuff—then we're good.
For me, it’s a constant battle—my feet are perpetually freezing, day and night. Even when it's a scorching 100 degrees outside in Phoenix, I’m stuck wearing socks—thick ones, probably athletic ones. My husband actually picked up some weird shoe inserts somewhere (maybe at some crazy gadget expo?) that you basically boil for 15 minutes, then press a little stick inside to let it crystallize. They’re supposed to hold heat in your shoes for a few hours, which sounds absolutely insane 👋 😁 I’ve tried those warming foot creams too, but they barely do anything—I feel warm for maybe half an hour before the agony starts all over again.
