Dealing with Strep Pneumoniae? in Health ·
driftingangler27, what you’re describing sounds more like rheumatic fever resulting from a prior Group A strep infection rather than Streptococcus pneumoniae. Isn't it obvious?

Fine for capsules, I suppose, but wouldn't peeled garlic cloves burn like pure hell? 🤔 😕

It’s perfectly normal, but given your medical history, isn't it better to be safe than sorry?

I assume you're still keeping up with your routine medical checkups, aren't you? 😉

Escherichia 🤣

We have Escherichia coli😁

Better yet: E. coli 😉

relating to depression and anxiety (or something similar, even if it hasn't been officially diagnosed yet 🙂 ) without OCD

Regardless, you really ought to see a doctor (a psychiatrist) immediately, who can prescribe appropriate treatment based on your symptoms. Phobias are effectively treated through psychotherapy (specifically cognitive behavioral therapy paired with relaxation techniques), though medication > might occasionally be necessary.

And yes, if someone is battling depression, isn't it entirely possible for anxiety to tag along as well?
Dirty hands... in Health ·
Is this strictly about handling objects, or does it involve touching other public surfaces as well? (Mysophobia)
Is there anything else involved beyond what you’ve described—excessive handwashing, constant showering, or obsessive cleaning? (OCD)

Sophia Martinez65 said:What you said regarding the duration and the specific strain is accurate, but can a virus truly mutate that extensively in just one year? Is that even biologically plausible? 😛

And this talk about poisoning? It simply doesn't suit you. Would they really design a vaccine intended to poison people? Honestly, what are you thinking! Whether you receive viral antigens via an injection or encounter the virus through your nasal mucosa, the toxicity remains exactly the same—which is to say, there is none.
😁

You’ve got it all wrong. Vaccination isn't poisoning the body; it's simply training your own immune system to build a faster, more effective defense against infections. Or are we still pretending biology works differently?

If we hadn't embraced vaccinations, wouldn't we still be facing the devastation of smallpox and polio today? Would we even be dealing with the heartbreaking number of children suffering from congenital defects caused by maternal rubella infections during pregnancy? And don't even get me started on the widespread infertility following mumps. Is progress really that easy to ignore? 😉

And what’s the deal with getting vaccinated during that second window?

Peak flu season here in the States—when everyone seems to catch the same bug—usually kicks off around Christmas and drags on until mid-February. That second window people mention (typically in February) is mainly for those who couldn't get the shot in late October or November because they were already dealing with an active infection. It's also when high-risk groups get their boosters—those at risk due to age (over 65), health conditions (anyone with chronic lung, heart, or kidney issues, or immune disorders), or even their profession, like healthcare workers.

Children aren't typically vaccinated unless they fall into those chronic illness or immunodeficiency categories.

Immunity generally builds up after one or two weeks (usually two) and lasts about six months.

If any of that terminology is fuzzy, just ask and I'll clarify; I'm rushing through this because I have a mountain of work to tackle.

Sophia Martinez65 said:That’s exactly why you get vaccinated—so you have some protection once flu season hits. I assume immunity lasts the whole season, though there are still people who got the shot and ended up catching the flu anyway.

Sure, the vaccine prevents the flu in about 80% of cases, but even if you do get sick, the symptoms are milder and don't last nearly as long. Isn't that the whole point?

On top of that, we have an angiography scheduled—will that actually be enough to clear the way for surgery?
Well, I have to say, we’ve really hit a wall here. It looks like the entire system is broken, doesn't it?
Is it truly functional, or does it merely possess the outward appearance of stability? One only realizes the truth when the facade finally crumbles.
Once you step inside, isn't it obvious that everything is just improvised guesswork?
Despite how broken this system truly is, people like you give us reason to hope. Don't we all need that?
Let us push forward. My sincere thanks to everyone! Can we keep this momentum going?
Fingers? Is that all we have left to discuss?

We hold our ground. 🙂

Susan Martin24, it’s good to have you back 😍

I suppose I’ll just end up repeating myself again, won't I? 😍
Deep Heat vs. Deep Heat in Health ·
Is it not true that Deep Heat is intended for muscle soreness after a workout, while the other version is meant for rheumatic pains?

Even if you get vaccinated before the flu season kicks off—which in America usually lands between September and November—it should still be possible to get the shot during the season itself, say from late December through March. I’m not entirely sure how the local Health Institute handles their scheduling, so why not give them a call to verify?
We vaccinate high-risk kids and their families during that second window if they were too sick during the initial "vaccination season" to receive it. Of course, I don't live in America, though I assume the logic remains the same elsewhere.

As for the vaccine itself, it isn't some static formula; it changes precisely because new, mutated strains emerge every year. Every year, the WHO determines which strains are the most active, and those are the ones integrated into the formula for the upcoming season.😉

Oh, and by the way, it takes about a week or two after the shot to actually build up protection.

Regarding DayQuil, it really is a matter of individual tolerance. A fever absolutely wipes me out, so high doses of caffeine actually act as a stimulant for me. But I agree, everyone has to figure out what works best for their own body.

Sophia Martinez65 said:Has anyone else gotten vaccinated?

I haven't yet, but I definitely plan to next year (that’s what I said last year, too). 😬

Get vaccinated, without question. It's free for all medical staff at the Health Institute, including students.
I started getting regular shots after the Venetian outbreak, and I've had peace of mind ever since.

Stay hydrated—lots of fluids, Vitamin C, Tylenol 300mg or Aspirin 500mg every six hours. Once you've taken something to break the fever, crawl into bed, bundle up, and sleep (since staying in bed with a fever shouldn't be a challenge) so you can sweat it out properly.
Personally, I just grab some over-the-counter stuff at the pharmacy (I practically stockpile DayQuil whenever I visit the States because you can't find it here).
Don't go rushing off to see your family doctor immediately; they can't offer much besides the exact same advice. Just call them, explain the situation, and have them sign off on your sick leave. It’s not exactly in their interest to catch whatever you have and pass it to everyone else in the waiting room.

Of course, I'm assuming you smoke, everything aches, and you're probably sniffing and dealing with a sore throat too. 😉

I have no idea if they even perform Mayo Clinic procedures over at Vineyard; they really ought to, but who knows? Why not just go see him directly or give him a call to lay out the situation clearly?
Ask him to recommend a place for the testing and to provide some guidance.

Megan Reed said:I’ve been following that case for years.

The only thing I can say is that if an operating room doesn't have a defibrillator on hand, I would refuse the surgery immediately. ABSOLUTELY NOT. 🙄

Now comes the inevitable refrain: "How was she supposed to know?" Well, if one fails to ask the right questions or perform basic due diligence, what then?

It seems most people are blissfully ignorant regarding anesthesia complications, cardiac arrest, or even the basic protocols for treating asystole.

Is this actually being disclosed to patients here in the US before surgery? As I recall, you simply sign a waiver stating you understand the risks and give consent, and that’s the end of it.

Even over in Germany, they don't typically go into detail unless you specifically ask. They might explain the different types of anesthesia available and let you choose, but that's about it.

Sophia Martinez65 said:From what I gathered, they didn't even have a defibrillator on hand. Now, that is a massive failure. A defibrillator costs roughly $6667, and you MUST have one ready, even if it's rarely needed during these types of procedures.

They claimed she went into fibrillation and the anesthesiologist tried manual resuscitation before calling 911, which arrived in 15 minutes—far too late. They didn't need paramedics; they needed a defibrillator!!!

And provided they actually had the right equipment, they also desperately needed an anesthesiologist who actually knows their job.🙄
