What are your thoughts on Petehije? in Health ·
I mean, petechiae could definitely be part of what’s going on with Tulsa, right? You really ought to give an actual internist a heads-up. Petechiae usually point toward some kind of blood clotting issue—and honestly, you don't mess around with that kind of stuff, do you?
Dealing with high cortisol levels in Health ·
Cortisol is just an adrenal hormone—basically your body's way of reacting to any kind of stress, whether it’s mental or physical. Seeing a level of 84 doesn't necessarily mean you're off the charts; usually, we look for something double or triple the norm before actually worrying. Plus, it all depends on why they ran the test and what time of day they drew your blood, since cortisol levels naturally cycle throughout the day.
If I were you, I’d just get it retested. If the numbers still look wonky then, you move on to provocation tests—those are much more reliable than trying to judge your entire hormonal health from one single, isolated blood draw.
What exactly is diverticulitis? in Health ·
Diverticula don't just happen in the colon—that's a common misconception. You can get them in the bladder, the bronchi, or pretty much any other organ for that matter. Basically, a diverticulum is just a little pouch-like bulge.
The patient has a congenital mitral valve defect. It’s possible we’re looking at heart failure complicated by pneumonia—basically, poor blood flow through the lungs causing issues. Her RBC count and Hgb might be low because they're being destroyed too fast—they're getting battered passing through those damaged cardiac orifices, dying off way before their usual 120-day lifespan. Iron levels could show up high just because the body isn't incorporating it into the red cells effectively—you end up with this surplus of "free" iron that isn't actually being used properly.
Beyond that, it could be anything from an infection to something malignant. I'm assuming she's in good hands with top-tier doctors, so hopefully, we'll get a real diagnosis soon.

P.S.
If someone needs CPR, it means they stopped breathing or their heart quit—meaning they were unconscious. A person in that state would only find out they were resuscitated through second-hand info.
First Communion gift ideas? in Students & Teens ·
I don’t know—maybe it’s just me—but I feel like everyone is totally overdoing it with things like Confirmation and First Communion. It starts with dragging the whole extended family and all your friends to these overpriced restaurants, and it just keeps going. Whatever happened to that cozy, small-scale family vibe? Or, you know, modesty and simple gifts? I was at my little brother’s First Communion recently, and honestly, I walked away feeling like I totally missed the mark with my gift—it was actually pretty embarrassing. You end up feeling like total trash because everyone is staring at you. My gift was $100. Meanwhile, other guests were dropping candy baskets and envelopes with $100 in them. That’s way too much for me. It’s just stupid how people practically force you into this lifestyle that fits neither your morals nor your actual bank account.
Neurological exam in Health ·
Traffic in Washington, D.C. is basically a nightmare—just endless waiting lists for everything. But honestly, if you're out in other parts of the country, things are actually fine, and you're dealing with decent, educated professionals. My cousin had been dealing with some dizzy spells for a few days straight, too. They wrapped up her whole workup in maybe two or three weeks—bloodwork, EEG, TCD, and a CT scan—and everything came back clear, except for some poor circulation, which was apparently the culprit.
