I reached out to that hospital about two years ago. It’s honestly not quite what they make it out to be in their ads. You have to wire them $10,000 upfront, and that doesn't even cover things like lodging—since the facility doesn't actually have overnight beds for patients—or food and stuff like that. Plus, you first have to do bloodwork just to see if they'll even consider taking you on, because they need to run their own specific tests (which, of course, you pay for ahead of time too). Then, if they do accept you and the treatment ends up not working... I guess they do refund the money, but they take out all the costs they incurred along the way.

Taxol experiences
in Health ·
It was pretty much the same thing for my mom. She’s dealing with HER2+ breast cancer that has spread to her bones. At first, she was on Taxol and Aredia for the bone issues, then they switched her to just Herceptin + Zomet to help with the bones. Since that wasn't really doing enough, she moved on to vinorelbine + herceptin. Even though those two together are supposed to be great for those bone metastases, the doctors say it’s just not working quite well enough. I guess they'll probably put her back on Taxol + Aredia for a bit...
Taxol experiences
in Health ·
My mom went through Taxol about two years ago (and I think she’ll likely need it again since it worked the best). Like someone mentioned, it’s administered really slowly, but I guess they told us that going slower might help with the nausea and vomiting, at least while she's getting it or right after. Aside from that very first cycle, she didn't deal with any vomiting or nausea at all. She’d just feel pretty weak for the first 2 or 3 days, and then things would settle down. Also, when she does her Taxol cycle, she has to stay at the hospital for two nights just for monitoring (at least that's how it works at the clinic where she gets treated).
Anyway, she has bone metastases, and before the Taxol she was getting alongside something else (I can't recall the name), she would have received Aredia...

White blood cells in urine: What does it mean?
in Health ·
Thanks. I already checked that link, and I guess I didn't really get it at first. I just gave it another read though, and if I'm understanding this right—as a total amateur—it means there's an excessive amount of white blood cells in the urine?
White blood cells in urine: What does it mean?

I was wondering if someone could help me make sense of this. I know it’s linked to a UTI, but I’m trying to figure out exactly what's going on and what it actually means.

How to turn off your emotions
in Psychology ·
Thanks for all the replies!
Just one quick question, since I’m definitely no expert and I'm a little lost here.
That part someone mentioned about cutting nerve pathways in the brain... was that just a joke, or is that actually a thing?

I hope I’m in the right spot here. Not really sure if this belongs in Psychology or maybe the Fringe section.
Anyway, my buddy and I have been going back and forth on something. We're wondering if it's actually possible—maybe through hypnosis, autosuggestion, or something else—to just switch off emotions? Like, to completely erase feelings toward everyone and everything (kind of like how the Vulcans are in ST 😬).
My friend thinks it's doable, though he can't really explain how, and I guess I'm more of a "maybe not" kind of guy 🙂.
Cheers...

Where can I find organic coffee around here?
in Health ·
Thanks for all the input, everyone. Guess I'll just try to find it online then. I noticed it's available overseas, but I figured it might be a common thing here in the States too.
About that procedure, I’m talking about a coffee enema. Since I work in the food industry, I didn't want to kill anyone's appetite by being too graphic, so I kept the text light. A few people I know recommended it, and I've read quite a bit online about how it helps with liver detoxing.
Anyway, thanks again for the help...

Where can I find organic coffee around here?

A friend of mine isn't doing too well, and he heard that a specific type of coffee mentioned in the title might actually help with a procedure he needs. I guess I didn't realize stuff like that even existed since I don't really drink coffee myself, and I haven't been able to find it anywhere here in Cleveland. I was wondering if maybe someone on the forum could explain what this is all about and, if it's possible, where I might be able to pick some up here in the US?
I hope I'm in the right subforum 😕
Thanks so much! 🙏

Great movie! (At least for me). It’s true the dialogue can drag on sometimes, but I don't really mind that in epics like this one. 😉 ...
Iconic movie cars we'll never forget
in Movies ·
I’d probably throw in the Chevrolet Impala from "Duel" (maybe not the flashiest one, but still a pretty cool ride) and the whole fleet of cars from "Duel" too... I guess I don't know if any of you guys have actually seen that one.
Unrefined sea salt
in Health ·
Not really sure which sub this belongs in, but since it’s kind of a health thing, I figured this was probably the best spot.
I'm looking to pick up some unrefined sea salt, but I haven't had much luck finding it. Does anyone happen to know where I could grab some?
Thanks...

How can I get a bank loan if I'm unemployed?
in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I feel like I read somewhere about this, but I can't remember if it was actually true or just mentioned in passing. I was wondering if any banks here in the US offer loans to people who are unemployed (not me, obviously), and if anyone knows which banks in the States give out loans without needing a co-signer?
Thanks

Can radiation patients return to work?
in Health ·
My mom and my aunt were asking me about this. My mom’s actually dealing with some health issues right now, unfortunately.
Anyway, they’re aware of what's going on, but they were reading something about Tennessee, Visa, and stuff like that, so they weren't quite sure how things actually turned out. They just nudged me to ask, I guess, just to see what other people think.

I guess I feel the same way, but they told me to ask anyway. Just in case.

Can radiation patients return to work?

I have a quick question, might be a silly one, but I'm just a little confused.
Can people undergoing radiation therapy, or those who have already finished their treatment, go about their normal chores? Like, is it okay to vacuum, cook, tidy up the house, and stuff like that?
Thanks for any help...

Elevated liver enzymes
in Health ·
So, I've been dealing with super high liver enzymes for about 10 years now. I guess I've done every test imaginable, but doctors just haven't been able to pin down why. I was overweight before, but even after dropping 15 pounds, my levels dropped by about half—which is something, I suppose—but they're still nowhere near normal.
I don't really drink alcohol, coffee, or anything carbonated, either. I know fatty liver from being overweight can cause issues, and maybe intense exercise affects things too.
Just for comparison, here are my recent results from before and after losing those 15 pounds:
BEFORE:
AST 196 (4-40)
ALT 379 (6-45)
GGT 525 (4-47)
AFTER:
AST 56 (11-38)
ALT 151 (12-48)
GGT 217 (11-55)
You've gotta look out for your liver. My old gym teacher used to say it handles about 500 different functions in your body, so you really need to take care of it.😉 ...
