Is life actually easier if you're good-looking? in Psychology ·
My two cents: honestly, I think the only people claiming that being attractive makes life easier are just frustrated and insecure individuals trying to justify their own shortcomings.

In my view, the real edge you get from being good-looking is probably in how you pick a partner—which, let's be real, mostly applies to women. What you guys are talking about maybe might hold water for the extremely stunning people out there, but they make up less than 2% of the population...

At the end of the day, the people who actually kill it in life are those with massive self-confidence. Being pretty barely moves the needle on that—unless we're talking about someone who isn't particularly bright, which usually just turns into arrogance. Generally speaking, success is what builds that confidence. Personally, I think athletes have the highest levels of it...

Honestly, I don't think it's any easier for them. If anything, people actually expect way more from them now! Any little flaw gets noticed almost immediately—it’s much more obvious than it used to be. People are going to be way harsher when it comes to their style or how they carry themselves... plus, you know how it goes, some folks just won't like them and might even try to tear them down out of pure jealousy.

Personally, I’d say going for some recreational swimming is the way to go!

And look, I really hope you aren't expecting people on this forum who see things differently to apologize just for sharing their own perspectives. Just relax a little and enjoy the debate—it's all part of the fun! If it's getting to you too much, maybe take a breather.

What do you mean "how is it not"? Am I supposedly unintelligent just because I eat meat and stuff... I'm not even asking for apologies here.🙄

Thinking about what Tesla and Einstein said regarding everyone switching over to a vegetarian diet

Honestly, hats off to them—they’re definitely much sharper, more creative, and way more brilliant than I am—but I can't help but wonder: what would actually happen if we all did that overnight?
- Think about it—there are plenty of countries where the entire economy is built on livestock, poultry, and meat exports. Some of these nations don't even have developed large-scale farming operations, and they physically couldn't pull it off because they lack fertile soil or any other natural resources. How would those places survive? They wouldn't. People would literally starve...

By the way, does anyone else realize that the deforestation happening just so we can buy furniture, paper, and wood products also causes massive animal suffering? Birds, squirrels, insects, you name it—they lose their habitats and face extinction... and then there's the fact that almost all new medications are tested on animals first—in my humble opinion, those animals go through way more pain during testing than they ever would if they were just killed for food...

And I'll say it again—I have absolutely nothing against vegetarians, but I really don't want people pointing fingers at me just because I eat meat, which is something I simply can't live without!

You really ought to realize that just because something is labeled as a "documentary," it doesn't mean it's telling the truth or even providing accurate data regarding whatever subject it's supposedly covering...

but there is definitely an indication here, and that was really my whole point

That doesn't necessarily mean it's right, though.🙂

Who exactly do you think you are, acting like the ultimate authority on what’s right and what isn't?! Seriously—take it down a notch and get real for a second.

Who’s actually the one talking nonsense here—you or me? And bringing up insulin... 🙄 Honestly, that just doesn't work as an argument. Why would I bother stressing over someone else's plate? Just drop the paranoid act about people "imposing" their views on you just because you didn't order meat at a restaurant—that's just ridiculous. It's such petty, small-minded drama... 👎

Look, I’m really not sweating anyone else's dinner choices—I’ve already said that—but it does bug me when people try to lecture me on what's "bad" to eat. Personally, I know plenty of vegetarians who can be incredibly preachy! It’s like smoking; it’s a personal choice, even if it isn't healthy. So, please, stop lying and just leave me alone with these made-up scenarios! My posts weren't meant to criticize anyone's specific diet; they were about calling out hypocrisy regarding how we treat animals! (Seriously, go ahead—find one single post where I'm just rambling aimlessly)

What does insulin have to do with anything right now? There are countless other medications being tested on animals, so don't use that to dodge the point! 👎 As for the "primitive" comment—I won't even dignify that, since you're clearly just using it because you're struggling to grasp what I'm actually saying.

Thomas Stewart97 said:it matters because someone who slaughters an animal doesn't truly love that animal.
Personally, I couldn't care less what you put on your plate.

Look, it's not like anyone’s out there swinging an axe at a cat or a dog—a dog isn't a cat, and it certainly isn't a cow. They're all different, and at the end of the day, it's my call whether I want to love them or not.

Thomas Stewart97 said:If you aren't losing sleep over it, then you don't have a problem—at least on the surface—but hey, karma keeps a pretty detailed ledger.🙂

Man, I’m not even going to get into a debate with you about all that karma stuff—it’s just not really my thing, you know?

But honestly, I feel like that whole study went down the wrong path from the jump. If I were running the show, I’d have looked at whether highly sensitive people are actually more intelligent on average, and then gone from there to see if there was any actual link to vegetarianism.

And seriously, if someone tries to lecture me about "how can you eat carcasses?" while I'm sitting here enjoying some fried chicken...
believe me, I'd rather shove a drumstick down their throat than spend the rest of my life living on soy milk and kale!

A meat-eater claiming to love animals?????????🤣

People who eat meat are essentially responsible for the brutal slaughter of animals and unspeakable suffering.
If you honestly think that slaughtering, the mess of blood, the painful cries, the sheer terror, and that deep sense of betrayal can be equated to love, then you’re either being incredibly abrasive—maybe even a bit unstable—or you just have no clue what you're talking about, because this post of yours completely lacks common sense.

What you're trying to link here just doesn't make any sense at all! To put it simply: just because someone loves dogs and cats doesn't mean they have to love cows, too...

OT: Why don't you go out to the Serengeti and preach to the lions? Why don't they just stick to eating cabbage instead of gazelles?

Thomas Stewart97 said:I didn't say I enjoy the slaughter and the suffering, rather that you contribute to it.

There isn't a single valid argument out there for someone who doesn't believe animals have souls—which seems to be where you're at.

Fair enough, though I was actually thinking about what you mentioned regarding how we can eat meat without feeling guilty. I mean, why should I feel bad if it's just part of being human... especially since some people absolutely need it to survive?

Look, if your logic holds up, then it applies to me too—regardless of what I personally believe.
Are vegetarians actually smarter? in Psychology ·

Here’s a breakdown of the repetitive claims and half-baked arguments Thomas Stewart97 keeps throwing out throughout this whole thread:

"You guys actually get a kick out of slaughtering and torturing animals."

"Sadists, criminals—basically, they can't be intelligent people."

"Look, I can't say I wouldn't take medicine if I had to, but I’d definitely look into alternatives first. I mean, if someone takes an antibiotic with a gelatin capsule but doesn't eat meat, that doesn't make them a hypocrite. We have options today, and if one of those choices helps prevent animal suffering, then taking an antibiotic isn't a wasted effort. Besides, you only take antibiotics once in a while, whereas skipping meat saves lives every single day."

"Intelligent people don't feed on carcasses."

"Eating carrion is pure fanaticism, mostly because human appetite and selfishness just know no bounds."

"People who eat meat are missing something—either empathy or basic intelligence."

Man, are you even aware of how superficial you're being here? You're just spouting nonsense that doesn't even connect to the actual discussion! Please, just give us one real, solid argument for once!

So, you're claiming to be the smart one here? Man, you’re doing a great job of hiding that... honestly, in this whole debate, you haven't dropped a single solid argument—you're just circling the same drain over and over again.

arna said:Look, our local waters aren't the only place we get our seafood from—not by a long shot. For instance, I go through quite a bit of mussels from the North Sea and Japanese tuna. Does anyone actually believe those waters are perfectly clean? Plus, the coastlines over by Italy are pretty polluted, and I doubt anyone could convince me that some of those fish aren't drifting our way. Even our own coasts aren't immune to pollution just because they're "ours." Between those algae blooms and those invasive blue crabs showing up, anything can drift in.

Personally, I stick exclusively to what we catch locally. As for those algae issues and the blue crabs? That’s just the fallout from global warming and melting glaciers. Our waters are still pristine, really. Honestly, there's hardly any fish left along the Italian coast anyway.

kriskros99 said:First off, my gut tells me that I'm not just some animal out here—I’m not operating on an animalistic level, so that whole "survival of the fittest" or "eat or be eaten" mentality just doesn't apply to me.

But wait, didn't you just say earlier that all living beings are equal? 😕
Buddy, you're totally contradicting yourself here.

kriskros99 said:Thank Quincy for intellect and the power of reasoning.

I think you've really missed the mark on this one.
Are vegetarians actually smarter? in Psychology ·
kriskros99, do you believe in God? If so, what’s your take on faith?
I mean, looking at the US, over 85% of people identify as Christian—and according to those beliefs, animals and all the riches on this earth were essentially handed to humanity to rule over. Even the Bible goes as far as mentioning animal sacrifices, and in some ancient contexts, even human ones...

On top of that, why do we keep buying cheap stuff made in places like China or Taiwan? We all know deep down that these products are often made by kids under twelve working 16-hour days.
There is just way too much suffering in this world that most people choose to ignore. Personally, I think humans will always hold a higher place than animals, mostly because I truly believe we're the only ones with a soul.

Sophia Allen12 said:You don't actually care if an animal suffered terribly—you just love meat too much—so you play the sympathy card, acting all sad while insisting we absolutely have to eat meat.

I feel like I was pretty clear when I said I’d prefer animals to be slaughtered without any unnecessary pain or suffering, period. It’s not like eating meat is a mandatory requirement for survival, but personally, I’d rather have meat than just stick to veggies and stuff because that just doesn't cut it for me. Honestly, if people had been vegetarians a hundred years ago, we probably wouldn't even be here today! And look—do you realize that the human body is biologically designed with a digestive tract that allows us to be omnivores? Why on earth would we try to fight against our own nature?! Plus, let's be real—you're food for something else, too; it's just how the world works. Just because you're being overly sensitive doesn't mean you're being smart.

Sophia Allen12 said:There are some people who could never bring themselves to hurt an animal, yet they still buy pre-packaged meat because they can't wrap their heads around the fact that it's the exact same thing.
A sadist isn't intelligent—because if they were, they’d understand that the universe didn't just pop into existence by accident; there are laws in this creation. They might lack feeling, sure, but they also lack intelligence, because if they were truly smart, they’d realize that by hurting others, they are actually hurting themselves.

🤣 Come on, give me a real argument here—honestly, what you're saying is just ridiculous and totally misses the point. You keep bringing up "universal laws," but your own logic tells you that in the animal kingdom, the real law is eat or be eaten...
