With NGL and February in the mix?

That was all I wanted to say. Even if I get every single point and action you just listed—which I do, and more—it doesn't mean I have to like it.

BTW, that whole aesthetic is much closer to Schmidt's "heart to be in mode," so I haven't seen anyone losing their mind over it yet.

blueranger12 said:I don't see a single sentence where he talks about anything other than humor and comedy! 🙂

He explicitly mentions irony, sarcasm, and parody—treating them like complex concepts that the average consumer of mainstream Hollywood cinema just can't grasp or enjoy when it comes to the humor of a Cashier. And somehow, I ended up being called out—supposedly someone who "gets" these nerdy attempts at irony and parody, but just doesn't find them funny because they feel forced.

The two of you should probably agree first whether we're looking at a lighthearted social comedy or some high-concept postmodernist project—then maybe we can actually have a conversation.

blueranger12 said:Are you talking about the thread where they compare the movie to Alan Ford?

The one that says:
To me, Cashier is a masterpiece! (...) But, as we can see, there are some idiots out there who just don't get it—or people who judge an entire film based on a single scene and decide it's garbage. If they actually understood the context, that scene would be hilarious. If they could grasp complex concepts like parody, irony, sarcasm, or satire... Of course, they wouldn't know any of that since they haven't seen any of our films; they only watch mainstream Hollywood blockbusters. Peasants.

blueranger12 said:Give me a break. If you think a lighthearted comedy with some mild social commentary is "shallow," then you’ve clearly been watching the wrong stuff. You really picked the wrong movie to go searching for depth...

I was responding to a post regarding a masterpiece—one filled with actual subtext.

Skinny Dog said:To me, Cashier is a masterpiece! Personally my favorite American film, even if I can't claim it's objectively the most valuable. That it's high quality? I can claim that—and I do.

Matanic mocks the typical American social drama so effectively—parodying it until it reaches Alan Ford levels. Haha—the grayness, the rain, the mud, late-night gunfire in the suburbs, a rat in the fridge among the cheeses and sausages, that secret window behind Harmon's portrait, Barica getting up at three, chopping wood, making a little one breakfast, carrying groceries, the neighbor's drunk husband, everyone stealing from the local bodega, and that constantly beaten-down mailman... Hahahaha! It's straight out of Alan Ford! That sauerkraut detail is absolutely killer. Or when Drago Diklić himself appears at the end to sing the finale! Zaaakon. And then the women are pushing the car while Miljenko just watches!

Man, you could write entire books about this movie. Absolute madness.

But, as we see, there are some idiots who don't get any of it—or who decide a film is bad based on a single scene. If they actually understood the context, that scene would be hilarious. If they grasped complex concepts like parody, irony, sarcasm, or satire... Of course, they wouldn't know those things since they haven't seen any of our films; they only watch big-budget Hollywood motion pictures. Peasants.

Even so—I know the context, I even know why someone gets up at three in the morning, I know why the trees are blooming—and yet, to me, it still feels shallow and soulless.

Kevin Gonzalez79 said:classic MTV generation demand.

Fast cuts aren't my priority—the scene is solid and doesn't drag at all.

🤣 Total MTV generation mindset!

It’s not about how fast the images switch—it’s about the fact that once an idea is delivered instantly, they just milk it forever. As a viewer, I find that insulting.

Kevin Gonzalez79 said:that scene where he's drinking through the grate and singing folk songs while the guy in handcuffs jumps along—it’s the same thing. A perfect parody of mindless American nationalism.

And honestly? That scene would carry the exact same weight if it lasted ten seconds instead of being stretched out for over a full minute like it is in the movie.

Hardly—I'm "in love" because you have this bizarre, strobe-light energy about you. It triggers some weird maternal instinct in me.

It would be wise to set up a poll.
What kind of movies do people actually prefer?
And what exactly is their take on American films?
🙂

Hearty, you really don't have a clue—you just walk through life with your eyes clamped shut, praying the obstacles will simply move out of your way.

while those local movies are playing, there's just a massive crowd waiting outside the theaters to catch them.

Unlike American films.

Joe Biden said:let's look at the best domestic film, "Rondo"

🤣 😂 Who are you, lightning bolt!

The worst—Ruic's "Seraphin, Son of the Lighthouse," Jurdanina's "Random satellite," and even Bulajic's "Libertas."

cro Fag said:people don't watch domestic films

that's just a fact

That isn't a fact—people watch local programming, movies included, on TV.

What is actually true is that they won't step foot in a theater unless there's a massive marketing blitz behind it. But that’s a much broader issue than just the state of American cinema.

What are we even discussing regarding films here? I’m getting the impression this conversation is more about sauerkraut.

Come on, Beatrice, just admit it—you don't actually enjoy it. You're only claiming to be a fan so you have an excuse to get waxed and blast Madonna.

Beatrice—you’re the first person I’ve encountered who doesn't like the work of Dalibor dada Matanić. Honestly, your orientation is looking pretty questionable to me right now.

That's sauerkraut, Beatrice—something you wouldn't find over in Western Europe.

Just so there's no misunderstanding—the movie is garbage.
