Acne and oily hair solutions? in Health ·
Just bumping this thread so the folks here who actually know their stuff might be able to weigh in and help me out.

So, do topical Vitamin A derivatives actually get absorbed into your bloodstream? Basically, is using an Accutane-based cream just as risky as taking the actual pills?

Thanks!

THANKS!!!

I took a look at everything, and from what I can see, there’s really no reason to worry.

I picked this up for my acne after an auntie at the local CVS recommended it.
But there's a catch—the instructions are in German, and my German is pretty much non-existent.
The only thing I do know is that it contains a retinol derivative, a vitamin A derivative, which I know can be seriously dangerous and teratogenic...😲 specifically, if you take these types of supplements orally, women aren't allowed to get pregnant and have to use contraception for two years after finishing the medication.

So, now I'm stuck wondering how much actually gets absorbed through the skin, and if it carries those same risks?

If anyone knows the deal, please let me know.👋

Has anyone else using LOGEST noticed their skin tone getting worse?

I’ve been taking them for about three months now and my complexion looks terrible😢. Maybe it isn’t the pills. They're supposed to actually help improve your skin tone, right?🙄

hmmmm... I feel like I was there around March, and he wasn't around then. Some other doctor, Dr. Zahi Khouri if I remember correctly, was covering for him.

Swabs (Chlamydia, etc.) - $83, HPV $133

If doing private swabs is too expensive, see if you can get a referral from a public gynecologist. You can pick up the swab kits yourself at the local health department office over on Rockefeller, go to Dr. Harni to have her take them (that costs $33), and then you just return the kits to the health department yourself.

Thanks! 👋

So exam + Pap + labs = $133
And it’s honestly not that bad. It's only once a year anyway. It's not like I'm unhappy with my current doctor—Dr. Topalovic—but I think he's still out on medical leave... basically, I mostly just need a gynecologist for advice and someone to talk to... I'm hoping Dr. Harni is decent since everyone raves about her.

It's just those swabs that are pricey...

Another woman is raving about Harni Medical Clinic...
Does anyone know how much they charge for an exam, a Pap smear, an ovarian ultrasound, and a chlamydia test...?
Just trying to get an idea of what kind of damage I’m looking at.
Thanks!
Contact lenses in Health ·
Matthew Morris2, why on earth can't you wash your face while wearing contacts?😕

My contact lens literally snapped in half this morning! And while it was in my eye!
I've been wearing soft lenses for years. I never thought this was actually possible.

I put them in normally yesterday, but they started bothering me so much during my night out that I just took them out and wrapped them in a paper napkin...

I don't get why you'd put a lens in a paper napkin?!!😱 😱 🙂

That is NOT how you do it! At least not with soft lenses—I can't speak for others. You can't let a lens dry out or it'll be ruined—it gets brittle and hard (try leaving an old one sitting out on a desk and see what happens to it!). It either needs to be in your eye or in solution!

It's weird to me that you didn't have solution or liquid on you. I always carry some, because you never know when something might happen that forces you to take your lenses out...
For going out, grab a travel-sized bottle of solution, or at least some artificial tears. Or just pour some solution into a small sterile plastic vial (you can pick those up at any CVS for a couple of bucks).
Noni vs. Aloe Vera: Which is better? in Health ·
Does anyone know if aloe vera capsules actually work, or is the effect weaker compared to drinking the juice?

First, I was on microgestin 1 mg, then switched to Trinovum at half a gram, and now I’m on Triquilar at 3.5 g. I’m really happy with it—the dosage isn't overwhelming, there's no pain, and most importantly, I know almost exactly when my period is coming within an hour!
You really should try different brands if one doesn't sit right with you. It all comes down to the specific dosage and how different hormone types react with your body... what works perfectly for one person might not work for another.
And don't forget, birth control can actually lower the risk of ovarian and uterine cancer, as well as PCOS!😉
