Does anyone know a good female gynecologist in Chicago? Ideally someone who isn't in private practice...

Moderator Note:

Since this has become such a massive and dense (😬) thread—with recommendations, personal stories, and info on OB-GYNs from all over the US flowing in daily—we’ve eventually created dedicated threads for specific cities. This helps everyone find what they need faster and keeps things organized. 😍

Because most recent posts here have been focused on the Chicago area, we want to remind everyone that there are two separate threads specifically for Chicago: one for private practices and one for those covered by insurance. Please head over to those instead.

Over time, the purpose of this specific thread has shifted slightly: it’s now more for discussing general gynecological care, clinic standards, equipment, and so on. You don't necessarily need to drop names here, which is why those dedicated threads exist.

Thanks for understanding, and happy posting! 😉

I was really satisfied with that visit to the clinic with Dr. Sikanic-Dugic... you'll need a referral...

Oh, my bad! It’s private... but it’s totally worth every cent and we take credit cards!😉

I agree that Višnja Tadić is great 🙂, but there’s someone just as good—maybe even better—over at the Dubrava clinic, Dr. Branka Potlaček. You can go with a referral or just show up without one. Plus, the prices are usually a bit lower than those private spots. 👍

Why does it always have to be female? 😲

So, I’ve got this wild idea where some guy explores my anatomy, but he isn't my boyfriend or husband. Honestly, I prefer it when it's a woman doing the work! Though, I have heard some girls are more into male gynecologists... Hey, whatever works for you!😎

That said, I’ve heard some girls swear by male gynecologists... well, whatever, we aren't all cut from the same cloth.😎

Exactly! I feel the same way—there's something inherently more comfortable about seeing a female doctor. Even though there's this persistent, old-school myth floating around that men make better gynecologists (😕 ), it just feels more natural to be examined by a woman; she actually understands the reality of it "firsthand," if you know what I mean 😁
. I mean, how is a male doctor supposed to truly empathize with the agony of painful periods, PMS, and all those other nuances of being a woman?? 😁 😁

Ugh, I know Tadić is my buddy’s mom... everyone keeps telling me she’s an amazing doctor—really top-tier—but honestly? I just can't bring myself to go to her. There's just something about it... no, I can't even explain it... ugh.

As for Dr. Klaiceva, isn't that kind of a pediatrician vibe? Like, something for little girls and teenagers? Besides, back when I was in high school—there were a few of them there—one of them absolutely wrecked me. I wouldn't recommend Klaiceva to anyone, seriously.

If you want someone decent, try Dr. Bingula over at the County Health Center near the main station. She’s a perfectly polite woman. Very professional. And since she's not part of some fancy private practice, you don't have to worry about being overcharged.

Totally agree. 👍 My experience with male gynecologists has been way worse than with women—at least when it comes to being thorough and actually treating patients with respect. Men tend to be rougher and less polite, and let's not even talk about the actual "butchers" out there. What really gets to me are the ones who lecture you—dismissing women or being verbally condescending—and honestly, they're everywhere. While my experiences with female doctors have generally been better, I did run into one major exception once. This private practitioner didn't just insult me; she practically tried to "cure" me the wrong way—she was basically a drill sergeant. If it wasn't for one male doctor stepping in to help, who knows how badly she would've messed me up. 🙄

Maybe I'm being biased, but a man basically has to view you as a woman and her anatomy to truly feel that spark. You wouldn't want to just run into him for a quick coffee later on, right?😁 No matter how many guys I meet, it just feels true...
I once visited this woman who was incredibly blunt and snapped, "Are you ever going to take your clothes off?!" It made me feel absolutely terrible.😢

To me, the only real difference between seeing a male or female gynecologist is that a woman might actually empathize with what you’re going through, whereas a guy just won't get it. But honestly, I’ve gone to both, and if I’m being totally candid, I actually preferred my male doctor!

Honestly... I see her too—she’s fantastic. I actually manage to relax, which is rare—no lingering trauma afterward.
And yeah... people say she's mostly for girls and high schoolers... but I haven't stopped going. Personally? I think anyone can benefit from her care.

I actually saw Dr. Bingula too—well, on a recommendation—but during my last visit, which was just recently, the place was so insanely crowded that she basically brushed me off in a matter of minutes. Mind you, I didn't have an appointment; I just popped in because I was in pain. Regardless, I couldn't even finish asking a single question before being cut off mid-sentence. By the end, all I had was a prescription in my hand and absolutely zero clarity on what was actually happening.
But today, purely by chance, we were chatting at a lecture with the gynecologist from the Dugway Health Clinic—the one near Jures—and she was incredibly patient, answering every single question we threw at her, even the ones that seemed totally redundant at first. My first impression? She’s phenomenal. I think I’m making the switch to her practice.
And, oh, speaking of Dr. Bingula—word on the street is she’s retiring around June.

Help, I need a drink. A good one. I’m totally fed up with these overpriced doctors charging me hundreds of bucks just to tell me absolutely nothing. I mean, I feel fine right now, but I still need to get my annual tune-up.😢

I’m joining the search.
If another one shows up with a contract from the fund and happens to be located on the West Side, my misery might finally come to an end.

Is Bingula actually retiring??? Are you kidding me! I finally just got settled into my life here... what am I supposed to do now???

There is absolutely no way I would step foot in a gynecologist's office if he were the last man on Earth. I have heard way too many stories about his verbal insults and all that sexist nonsense he spews. One friend of mine went in for emergency contraception, and he basically lectured her on what she thinks she's doing—she was in her twenties, not a child—telling her she should be at home playing housewife instead of wandering around out in the world. Honestly, I think I’d just leave him hanging. Seriously.

claims this:
. One friend of mine—she was coming in for birth control, mind you, she wasn't exactly a kid, maybe twenty—was told by some guy that she should be staying home getting ready to have babies instead of "wandering around." Honestly? If I were her, I’d leave him high and dry. Completely alone. Seriously.

Then there's my experience with some supposedly "distinguished" gynecologist at the local clinic in
small-town Ohio. When I asked about options, he basically patted me on the head and suggested I didn't even need them since I wasn't married and—get this—wasn't having sex "that often"...
