Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Kimberly Davis52 said:Could it be ovulation?

I actually had some light spotting once, and my doctor told me everything was perfectly fine and just chalked it up to ovulation.😉

Then back in December, I ended up having two periods in one month. The second one arrived about 14 days earlier than expected, if I recall correctly.😁
To make matters even more stressful, I had an appointment scheduled with my OBGYN that day and was already on the road from San Francisco to New York City. I started bleeding halfway there, so the doctor just told me to call them back after my "actual" period started.
But this one turned out to be the real deal.🙂

This seems to happen to me maybe once a year, or once every couple of years at most. My doctors have never really made a big deal out of it or ordered any extra tests. Since everything else shows up normal, I honestly don't have any clue why it happens. If it isn't a frequent occurrence, I don't think there's much reason to worry too much about it.😉
LLETZ at Mayo Clinic in Health ·
As far as I know, a LLETZ procedure is performed under local anesthesia rather than general, and there aren't any stitches involved afterward. I can't say exactly how long mine took, but it definitely wasn't twenty minutes—it was probably closer to ten at most. Based on that, I suspect what Hannah Castillo3 was describing sounds more like a classic cone biopsy rather than a LLETZ. 😉

Well, I was feeling completely overwhelmed regardless. 😁

Noah King6 said:Hey guys, does anyone have experience with the gynecologists over at Mercy Hospital? If so, which one would you recommend?
There are two women there, and I was thinking about heading there for an exam.
I’ve been to Mercy before for other things and was really happy with the care, so now I’m considering them for my OBGYN visit too.
Help me out, please!

Are you referring to the clinic in RI?
If so, I’ve been seeing Dr. Jurica for years now and she’s actually quite good. 🙂
She’s pleasant and friendly, and the exams are fine...
I’ll most likely keep booking appointments with her once my issues with cysts finally clear up. Until then, I’m staying in Chicago seeing Dr. Ljubojevic. 👍

.

I'll add my praise to that as well 👍
I placed my order today, but just to be safe, I did it well in advance 🙂 I don't trust those local guys anymore, so I'll be back in the city again next week

William Rodriguez30 said:I was actually thinking about switching to Dr. Brncicka, but I’ve felt a bit discouraged after these unpleasant experiences. Does anyone have a recommendation for another gynecologist in San Diego? (via insurance)

Unfortunately, I don't really have anyone else I could recommend to you... my only experience has been with a private OB-GYN at Cedars-Sinai and one specialist at UCSD (everything was fine—the exams, the Pap smears, the bedside manner—but after visiting Dr. Ljubojevic in LA yesterday, I realize they missed half of what needed to be done 😠).
Before considering Dr. Brncicka, I had thought about seeing Dr. Ksenija Stefanic Dukic based on recommendations from an old classmate and two friends who saw her regularly, even for prenatal care. However, since I wasn't entirely sure where her office was located—only that it was somewhere near the Pehlin area—I never actually went looking for her.
For routine check-ups, she should be perfectly fine based on what I've heard. But if you ever face anything more serious (specifically regarding HPV or CIN issues), it might be worth making the trip to LA... Dr. Ljubojevic is truly the best. 🙏
As for these local doctors, I feel like I should have walked away from them a long time ago (since they didn't even see or address half of my concerns in the first place).

Anthony Wells55 said:My sister's name is Sonja Vlahovic, and she treats everyone with such familiarity; in my opinion, she’s far too informal. For instance, she might ask you to go grab her a sandwich, request that you close the door behind her, or have you fill out forms yourself... While some people might find that charming, I personally value a more professional relationship.

I completely agree... I noticed this myself during my fairly brief first appointment with her.
She had me pull up a little stool next to her and asked me to help fold some cardboard boxes.😬
Honestly, that part wouldn't have bothered me as much if it weren't for the fact that while she was writing my hospital referral, she tossed out a few comments regarding my CIN II results. It felt quite unprofessional, though I was hoping that at least the doctor would be competent.
Anthony Wells55 said:Regarding Dr. Alemka Brncic Fioscher herself, much to my disappointment, I have to say I had a very unpleasant experience with her. This primarily concerns the gynecological exam, which was extremely rough. I was so shocked by it that I'm seriously considering what to do next, as I can't imagine having to undergo another swab with her. I experienced some bleeding for two days after the exam, which has never happened to me before. She was also incredibly blunt when palpating my abdomen. I truly never expected such roughness from a young, female (!) gynecologist.
Because the experience was so traumatic, I can't really judge her theoretical knowledge; I just wanted to get out of the office as quickly as possible, so I didn't ask all the questions I intended to. All I can say is that given the nature of the issue, she failed to mention any next steps or suggest a follow-up appointment.
Her guidance, which was exactly what I needed, was missing, leaving everything entirely up to my own initiative.

It feels like I've only solved the basic problem of getting prescriptions and referrals written, but I still haven't found a real gynecologist...

😲
It looks like I'll be sticking with her just for the paperwork and prescriptions for the time being too... ugh.
Since I've already been in and out of clinics three times this year for various exams and I've had quite enough of it, I really don't need someone else coming in to manhandle me.

No, thanks for the info.😘
OB/GYN Discussion Thread in Women's Health ·
About ten days ago, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Alemka Brncic, a specialist in OB-GYN. Her office is located right across from the main entrance of the University Hospital in Rijeka, just past that little deli on the corner.
Since I was only seeing her using a referral, I don't actually know much about her practice yet—other than the fact that she seems very kind and approachable at first glance.🙂
Does anyone here have any firsthand experience with her?

dustyscout53 said:Man, maybe those are just the old tests from back in 2002? Yeah, that sounds about right. You haven't received the updated ones yet. Let me see if I can pull some strings and get something sorted for you.

If only 😬 these were from the 80s... or even older...
Come on, do something about it—it would be nice to actually get some benefit from our community living abroad 😛

dustyscout53 said:By the way, are you married?

Haha, nope... I haven't lost my mind just yet.😍

dustyscout53 said:Actually, you're just talking about one specific faction within Mensa that's causing issues—issues I won't get into right now because this isn't the time or place, and we shouldn't be airing dirty laundry regarding whether the Mensa president drives a pickup truck🙄.

Haha... well, I'm actually referring to the official Mensa testing process, which doesn't really depend on whoever happens to be leading the organization at the moment.
The president of Mensa? Heh, and here I was thinking Mensa had a president...🤣

dustyscout53 said:It’s measured, just through a different lens. If you hit all 172, they essentially factor in any remaining minutes left over from if you finished the test early. You should probably ask someone directly, though.

No need to ask—I'm pretty well-versed in how Mensa and their testing process works.😛
The actual testing window is set for a specific number of minutes, and everyone takes the exam at the same time. Those who finish ahead of schedule are asked to stay seated so they don't distract the other candidates, so finishing early doesn't actually change anything regarding the score...
As for the maximum score for a specific age group, it's listed as "greater than" 172, which means they don't bother measuring anything beyond that point. There you go.😉

Lawrence Robinson11 said:even Mensa isn't what it used to be. Who on earth actually scores above 175? 🙄

Haha, well, just a heads-up: a legitimate Mensa test rarely measures anything north of 172.😬

steelpilot10 said:Yeah, I'm thinking about registering with a general practitioner just to have access to prescriptions and referrals, but nobody could tell me if I actually need proof of residence. I’m "temporarily" living in the city, but I haven't officially registered my address here. I've been scouring the internet for an hour trying to find an answer, but nothing. Even when I called, they just kept bouncing me around—telling me to call this clinic or that health center. If anyone knows the deal, please let me know.

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think you'll need it.
I'm also "temporarily" staying in a different city without being officially registered, and I signed up with a primary care doctor without any issues, so I assume it shouldn't be an issue for a gynecologist either.
Lentil recipes: Megathread in Health ·
I mostly stick to CareCredit myself. About two years back, my doctor was actually pretty horrified when I mentioned I was using CareCredit and insisted I switch over to Boston immediately.
The only headache is that even now, I can't find Boston products in most local pharmacies, which makes it impossible to stay consistent with my routine.🙄
Personally, I find it works better than CareCredit, though you have to remember they serve different purposes—one is for storage and the other is for cleaning.

Elizabeth Ruiz2 said:Does anyone have recommendations for a good private gynecologist in the area? Looking for someone highly skilled and professional. 🙂
Does a university health clinic exist in the city—similar to the one in Chicago—and because of that, is there a gynecologist specifically for female students?

I decided to check out Mediko Clinic based on a recommendation, seeing Dr. Sanja Jurice. Honestly, she’s a wonderful woman—really great to work with. 🙂

I have absolutely no idea about a student health clinic; I’ve never even heard of one, so I'm guessing there isn't one in San Diego. 😕
