Nobody’s stepping up, so I guess I have to.😁 We're looking at 20 players, using a 16+2+2 setup. 16 guys for the first round, then you can sub in two more for the second, and another two for the finals. Hopefully there aren't any injuries, otherwise we might actually need those extra subs.
Honestly, I think Ivan could easily transition to playing field or even stepping in as a goalie.😁 Maybe we can help Lina cook up a whole new playbook for handball. Got more ideas coming.😁 😁
Lino’s about to take handball into the fifth dimension. We’ll probably be playing this tournament without a goalie, just running seven players on the court at once.😁
Honestly, things weren't any better with Mirko last season. If he's playing alongside an elite talent like Saric this year, his minutes should skyrocket. He’s the type of guy who defends one quarter and then absolutely rips it up during whatever time he actually gets on the floor. It's no small feat to lead the league in defensive efficiency while barely seeing fifteen minutes of action. He needs some real run during preseason and, obviously, some minutes against the lighter competition in the group stage.
Not quite ready for the spotlight yet—only 21, after all—but hey, maybe I'm wrong. We'll see. From what I've seen, watching him since he was 17 when he was ripping 15-20 balls off Barca back in their prime, the kid's reflexes are unreal. Just like how Sterbik is a phenomenon at 130 kg, this kid is his own kind of freak with those reflexes and being two meters tall.
Personally, I've got a feeling Mirko is going to force his way in during training camp and push both Losert and Jerkovica out the door. The real issue is whether he can mesh with the guys in such a short window. Like I said, the goalie and the defense have to act as one unit.
frozentiger6 said:Well, they finally found a cure for that. Kevin brought in none other than Vlad Stenzl to act as Lino's mentor—basically there to manage his ego and all that philosophical nonsense he keeps peddling. 😁
Anyway, if we get Val back, you'll finally see what a real, legit 3-2-1 defense looks like under Vlad Stenzl. 😁
I reckon the whole plan for this World Championship is just to let the competition run circles around us.😁 Let's hope Stenzl still remembers how things work. Setting up a 3-2-1 defense probably feels like rocket science to him at this point.😬
You guys are already freaking out, and we haven't even hit the start of the WC yet.😁 Defense and the keeper have to be totally in sync; if one part of that duo fails, the whole thing falls apart. The defense needs to force opponents into taking shots from impossible angles, which makes life way easier for the goalie and lets him settle in. Plus, when a keeper takes off his gloves, it boosts the squad's morale while getting under the skin of the opposing strikers.
The only outlier in this lineup is Dempa, given how he's playing lately—unfortunate. Looks like time finally caught up with him. I think it’s time for Duvnjak to step up. And hey, thanks to Spoljarica for everything, but he’s just not at the level we need for the World Cup right now.
Don't write off Spoljarica just yet. He's the anchor in that 3-2-1 defense they're prepping for the World Cup.😉 The squad is looking pretty solid as it stands; once Duvnjak moves into the rotation, we're set. We're damn strong.😁
