If she actually wants to dive deeper into her faith, this is a killer gift (though, let's be real, being a teenager, she might think it's blah right now 😁 but she'll appreciate it down the road). 🙂 But if the whole family is just going through the motions and doesn't actually care about spirituality? Giving her a high-end American Bible is top-tier trolling. I can't even argue with it. It's a Win-win. 😬
hehehe, you know, I hadn't even thought of it that way... 👍
Rachel Williams said:If that’s the case, wouldn't it be simpler—or even a better shot—to just buy some makeup? I'm not sure where you're located, but if you're in New York City, brands like Nyx, Mac, and Sleek are everywhere right now. Maybe put together a little kit with a neutral eyeshadow palette, a nude lipstick or gloss, and tuck it all into a nice makeup bag. In my opinion, the Bible is more appropriate for a First Communion, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if she receives several copies. Based on how she is, a makeup set would probably resonate with her much more; it's what would actually make her happy.
I think I'll stick with the book/Bible after all, even if she ends up getting a bunch of them 😁
I don't know anything about makeup, and I highly doubt that would actually make her happy given how much stuff there is out there—all the expensive, high-end brands and everything else... 🙄
Since she’s already an eighth grader, maybe it'd be worth seeing what she's actually into. I guess if we knew if she's more about art, science, or just some random hobby, picking the right book might be easier.
My first thought was actually to grab her something on art history😁
I don't know a ton about it, but from what I can tell, she isn't exactly thrilled about "school"... (the grandparents will probably try to shove her into some fancy private prep school eventually), she's more about makeup and fashion...
so maybe a Bible would be a safe bet. No one can really argue with that choice...😁

Look, I get it, buying something like that for a Confirmation sacrament feels a bit extra 😬 but I’m sticking to my guns. 🥳
thanks, that red leather-bound one might actually work 👍 hopefully the rest of the guests just stick to jewelry... wouldn't want the kid showing up with a whole library of Bibles😁
If any moms or dads happen to stumble onto this thread... if you've got daughters around this age... feel free to drop some book recommendations here 👍
Would the book be any good, just speaking generally? Maybe I should just pick something based on my own gut feeling since I have no clue what she’d actually find interesting 😁

thanks for the tip, hadn't really thought about that🙂
hm, I guess I'd need to figure out which scents girls actually like these days—though honestly, she probably has everything under the sun the second it hits the shelves at Sephora...
plus, I don't really hang out with kids much, so I have no clue what's considered cool anymore😁
So, an old elementary school buddy called me up to invite me to his kid's First Communion party... caught me totally off guard and I couldn't really find a way out of it 🐔
I've seen a little kid like this maybe twice in my life, and honestly, I have zero clue how any of this works... I'm assuming people bring gifts 🤷
The extra complication here is that this family is loaded—the kid is already rocking designer labels and is decked out from head to toe 🤦 basically, I'm expecting top-tier tacky behavior, total trash, and just blatant showing off 🙂
Now, since I've already stepped into this mess, I don't want to offend anyone or disappoint them by looking like I don't know the customs... or look like I'm judging their values 🙂
Any advice? Would bringing some flowers and maybe a book be enough? (I'm more of a book person) 😵 But what kind of book? 🙂

then your doctor seriously missed the mark😬 nothing like that should be happening after wearing them for a few months😲 you should definitely go back and complain... if he tells you everything is fine, tell him where to shove it and find someone else😬
Brandon Carter17 said:I am wearing these freaking stupid damn hard lenses!!!—they claim, obviously, for the entire first semester—and I can’t wear them, man, they're uncomfortable, I'm blinking constantly, they are way too STIFF—so does anyone have experience, or am I just doing this wrong, how should I be wearing them, etc...😠 😠 —because this is driving me insane!!!—people tell me, just look normally, don't blink, but dammit, it just chafes, it hurts... my doctor, that jerk, wouldn't give me soft ones... idiot...
It's probably semi-rigid lenses—hard ones aren't really used anymore (you can order them, sure, but only for people who've worn them for years and somehow can't adjust to semi-rigid or gas-permeable versions for some reason). Otherwise, soft lenses, even if they seem more appealing at first glance, actually have a lot more downsides compared to "hard" ones, and it's definitely worth the effort to get used to them...
Anyone got a solid recommendation for an ophthalmologist in Washington, D.C.?😘 I need to get new lenses sorted out ASAP, and honestly, I’m done seeing Dr. Bilić... I've been going there for a while now, but it's time for a change...
I'm also on the hunt for a solid eye doctor... I really need to move on from Dr. Bill because she's way too expensive, plus the wait times are ridiculous😢 and honestly, her exams feel a bit rushed, if you know what I mean👎 is Dr. Hance actually any good, especially when you're looking for contact lenses?
It’s always the same thing—just a few big red capillaries showing up in both my eyes😢 obviously, they get way more noticeable if I'm walking against the wind or hanging out in a smoky room or whatever... but generally there isn't any specific reaction to staring at a computer screen or reading or anything like that... doctors don't say anything, they act like it's totally normal (and I'm not exactly in my prime anymore, so I guess that plays a part too)😁
The manual says you aren't supposed to use eye drops while wearing contacts...😁 I actually did it once when my eyes were feeling super irritated, but I made sure to stay out of my lenses for two whole days after that...
Artificial tears are fine, I guess, but honestly I don't really need them since my eyes stay moist enough on their own... the only issue is how those gross little capillaries show up so clearly😢 😢
I've never even bothered wearing glasses... they just don't work for my type of nearsightedness, especially when you factor in some other weird anomaly I've got going on😢
Is there actually any way to get rid of these red veins in my eyes? People keep asking if I've been drinking or what's wrong with my face... I look like a total wreck😢 though, honestly, just thinking about any kind of "procedure" near my eyes makes me want to crawl out of my skin😱 anyone else dealing with this crap?
