Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Hey there.
I was taking Duphaston back in October to deal with some spotting, but that cleared up—not because of the Duphaston, actually, but because of some herbal teas I was drinking. After that, my period arrived right on schedule on day 28.
The following month, it showed up a few days early, around November 20th.
Then, in December, it just didn't come at all. A few days ago, though, I noticed a tiny bit of blood for one day, followed by some light brown discharge over a couple of days, mostly when I was straining.
To give you some context, I've dealt with irregular cycles for years. Last year, I actually went six whole months without a period.
So, here’s what I’m wondering: can stress cause a period to skip entirely, and what’s the deal with this light brown spotting?
Normally, my periods are quite heavy and tend to last about a week.
Sometimes I get a lot of brown discharge, but that usually happens right before my actual flow starts.

I'm looking for some solid recommendations for a good OB-GYN covered by Medicare—ideally someone located out in Brooklyn if possible!
Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
I stopped taking Yasmin back in month five (though I had been on them for about nine months total).
Around month six or seven, my legs started swelling up, and honestly, they’re still swollen to this day.🙄
Recently, I also noticed some swelling on one side of my neck, both in the front and the back.🙄
I went ahead and got my thyroid hormone levels checked, and everything came back within the normal range.🙂
My kidney ultrasound was fine, too, and I don't have any heart issues.🙂
Then, just in the last month, my hair started falling out way more aggressively than usual.😢

Is there any way these could be lingering side effects from Yasmin, even though I quit taking them back in month five?!?!?!?!?!???????????? 🤷😕😕

🙂

I know I’m supposed to be taking them, but honestly, they just don't sit right with me—I feel absolutely terrible whenever I do.
It’s this exhausting cycle where the second I stop, things seem to stabilize for a bit, but then my cycle starts drifting later and later each month. Eventually, after being off birth control for over a year, I end up missing a whole month entirely. So, I find myself cycling back and forth: taking the pills for a few months, stopping, waiting, and repeating the whole mess.
In the past, I always felt fine once I finished a pack, so why on earth am I feeling this way now?!?!??!?!?!?!?!
The deal is, I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS and some hormonal deficiencies, which is the whole reason I’m on the pill in the first place.
And to top it all off, I still haven't even started my period yet!?!?!?!??!?!?

Sophia Castillo35 said:Alright, let’s be real here—why the back-and-forth? Why start taking the pills, quit, start again, then stop once more? It seems like a bit of a rollercoaster, doesn't it?

Look, two days of nothing is perfectly normal. You have to give your body some breathing room to actually recalibrate itself. Honestly, it feels like mine took about five days to finally get back on track after I stopped taking the pill. It’s just how the biology works. 🤔 Look, honestly, don't even bother stressing about it for the next couple of days. Just let it go. 🙂

Because I deal with PCOS, there are times when my cycle just disappears entirely for two months straight.
It’s like this: if I just decided to quit taking my birth control, everything would seem perfectly fine for a few months. I’d feel totally normal. But then, without warning, things would start slipping. My cycle would begin to drift, then it would start lagging behind by a couple of months, and before I knew it, I was right back at square one, having to restart the whole pill regimen after being off it for four to six months. It’s a constant, frustrating cycle of trying to find balance only to have it slide right out from under me again.
And what about the following month? Did things get just as backed up then, too?

So, why am I ditching the birth control?
Look, I’ll be completely honest with you...

I am ready to have a baby!!!

Sophia Castillo35 said:Why are you doing the on-off pill method?

And how late are you actually?

What exactly is the "on-off" pill thing?
My period is two days late, though I usually get this brown spotting about two days before my actual flow starts—but this time, there isn't even any spotting...

I was on Yasmina 9 for nine months. Now that I’ve stopped, my period is late.
In the past, I tried birth control pills a few times, but back then, my cycle was always perfectly on schedule. Over time, though, things started getting wonky—my period began sliding later and later until I was missing two months entirely. So, I decided to start over with another brand of contraceptives for a few months.
But this is a first for me; I've never had my period skip the very first month after stopping birth control before.
Has anyone else gone through something like this?
Please let me know...

Thanks! 😘

Up until now, I’ve been seeing a doctor who could never actually pin anything down. It was always some vague "maybe it’s this" or "could be that," or even just "it’s probably nothing at all." It’s incredibly frustrating when everything is dismissed as just being affected by the weather or some other minor fluctuation. To get straight to the point, I need a physician who actually treats patients—someone who provides referrals to specialists when it’s necessary and, most importantly, someone who can actually explain what is going on with my health.

I’m looking for some guidance here.
Since I’m moving to a new area, I need to switch over to a new primary care physician in Reno.
Could anyone lend me a hand—which GP in the area is actually worth seeing, and who would you personally recommend?
Please!

Honestly, my primary care physician has never even bothered prescribing me antibiotics; she just shrugs it off like it’s some minor thing that’ll eventually just resolve itself... as if she can’t actually do anything about it.
My OB-GYN, on the other hand, put me on some heavy-duty stuff—I can't recall the exact name right now—but after that, I had two consecutive tests showing counts of 10 over 3.
I am determined to completely eradicate this absolute menace once and for all.
The restrictions are endless: I’m not allowed to sit on anything unless it’s a heated seat, I have to skip baths entirely and stick to showers, I need to be chugging at least 2 to 2.5 liters of fluids daily, and I basically have to live in the restroom. It’s constant.
And don't even get me started on the sheer terror I feel whenever I think about those pains coming back!!!!!!!!!

Angela Wright said:Look, if the bacterial concentration is at a level where a doctor decides an antibiotic might do more harm than good, they probably won't prescribe one. If you aren't feeling confident about what your doctor is telling you, you have every right to seek a second opinion—go get one. Sometimes, when the bacterial count is low, doctors prefer to let your immune system handle the heavy lifting. Instead of pushing for meds, ask about a urinary antiseptic; Ninur is great, though it's been hard to find lately, but you can also pick up Nitrofurantoin, which is a solid German option. In the meantime, drink plenty of fluids—cranberry juice or uva ursi are your best friends here. The goal is to flush your system constantly so those bacteria get washed out of your bladder and urinary tract before they can establish colonies and turn a minor issue into a full-blown infection. Whether you end up on antibiotics or not, you need to stay hydrated to see any real progress.

I’ve tried Monuril twice—it's that German powder packet, the kind where you just dissolve it in water like an Alka-Seltzer and drink it. Apparently, it's supposed to kick in after about ten days, and if the infection is particularly nasty, you take two or three doses spaced out over time rather than all at once.
I took one dose a few months back, and lately, I’ve been taking some herbal honey along with some other supplements meant to fight inflammation and, uh, urinary tract stuff... whatever... and I just finished another dose of Monuril recently. Honestly? It still hasn't cleared things up. I can just feel it.
At this rate, I think I'm going to have to go through another round of Monuril.
A neighbor of mine mentioned she took two doses and felt completely fine right after.
But I don't know, my immune system feels totally shot; I'm dealing with these persistent warts that won't go away, I'm catching every cold that passes by, and it's just constant.
I'm really hoping the Monuril combined with the herbal honey does the trick... because if it doesn't, I'm honestly at a loss.
The thing is, I've been on a massive amount of antibiotics this year alone—not just for the Escherichia, but for several other issues as well.
Have you ever heard anything about Monuril? Does it actually work like they say it does?!

What’s the bottom line here?
Am I looking at a prescription for antibiotics, or can I skip them?
What’s the next move?
Last time my labs came back looking pretty rough, but my primary care physician just brushed it off and told me everything was fine, so I’m trying to be proactive this time.

What I actually need is a doctor who will take me seriously, provide a real diagnosis, and actually order the necessary tests and screenings.
Right now, I’m stuck with a physician who just offers a patronizing little smile and insists everything is perfectly normal—claiming that these symptoms are just how most people feel, which seems to be her default response to absolutely everything.
Angela Wright, thanks for the input!

Could someone please help me make sense of this urine culture report? It says something about . I don't have the actual paperwork right in front of me, so I'm not entirely sure what that "10" refers to specifically.
On my last lab test, the culprit was Escherichia coli.
Thanks in advance!

Could someone please point me toward a solid general practitioner in New York City?
I’m living over in Botinac, though I'm totally open to looking slightly outside that immediate neighborhood.
Please!
Thanks in advance
