Holy Spirit

(Technically, Holy Spirit is registered as a Muay Thai club, though the fighters mostly compete in kickboxing lately, so it’s more about kickboxing than actual Thai boxing these days. Not to mention they are two very similar sports; I suppose for a beginner, it shouldn't really matter whether the gym is labeled Muay Thai or kickboxing—what matters is if the club is actually any good.)

Nathan Walker16 said:I’m 28 years old, and honestly, I think you guys are looking at this through rose-colored glasses. You aren't seeing the reality of things clearly. No matter how much you sweat in the gym or how many hours you grind through drills, there’s always going to be a massive crowd of guys out there who don't train at all—but they’re still going to be way, way stronger than you'll ever be. Training martial arts isn't actually meant for what you think it's for.

That's true.

Basically, it is possible for an average woman to become strong enough to take down a decent number of guys on the street. But that doesn't happen by hitting a gym three times a week for some martial arts classes. It requires dedicating a huge chunk of your free time to training—which, I guess, is expensive, exhausting, and most people just won't bother.

Maybe try resolving those situations with a conversation instead.

That’s obvious, I suppose, but the point is that most things can be achieved through consistent training. There is no need to aim for some intense Monastery-style regimen where you might end up being sold a bill of goods by some charlatan, simply because you hold prejudices against, say, "unmoving 220-pound bodybuilders" in boxing.

I suppose I’m not quite at Leonardo da Vinci levels of expertise yet... but I am curious about where else one can find high-quality training. I'm looking for places where you actually learn how to box, rather than just hitting a heavy bag. It would be ideal if sessions were held four or five times a week. As far as location goes, the closer to downtown, the better.

Does anyone have recommendations for a boxing gym in the city where they actually put in quality work and prepare people for competitions? I know about the Leonardo gym, but it’s a bit of a trek for me. Maybe you have some other suggestions?

Mike Tyson weighed over 220 pounds at 5'10", so he wasn't exactly slow. I suppose speed is something you can develop through training...

I guess there’s someone on this forum who actually knows their stuff regarding boxing glove quality and, maybe, the best ways to pick them up without getting ripped off?

What is this music?? in Forum Help! ·
Kebab, man. Just kebab. 😍

I honestly have no clue which service is pushing this, but it seems to trigger whenever I have Reddit open... haha. I mean, it doesn't really bother me, and it happens maybe every 20 minutes or so, but I am genuinely curious about the reason why..
What is this music?? in Forum Help! ·
This forum keeps playing some random music and then cutting out after five seconds.. WTF?

First it was some track by John Doe, and now it's that monument song by Dominic 🤣

The problem with boxing is that it isn't actually Thai boxing.😛
Quick question about brakes in Cycling ·
Let's just say we both dropped the ball here. I suppose I was more at fault than you were, though maybe not by much. 😁

You seem to be quite the expert, I suppose...
Which rotors are you claiming cost only 50 bucks?
And where on earth did you get $83 per brake? That looks like a price from Bike Mania, but at the local Trek store, they’re going for $90. 🙂
Where exactly are you finding an adapter for that much$17?
And I stated that without even factoring in taxes, if that matters!!

briskmarlin59 said:What could you possibly get at that price point?

Maybe try checking out a local shop and asking them which component combo works best... because on Bike Mania, I guess there are probably 50 different ways you could configure those brakes.

Are you talking about a tax deduction?
That's already the price 😁

You might be overspending here..
2 x $100 plus rotors and adapters comes to $667

EDIT: I just read that at Bike Mania, which is also a similar US-based shop, you can grab the whole kit with XT 180mm rotors for about $1,500 - $500.

I haven't even attempted using double wraps, and honestly, even the single ones make breathing a bit difficult (not terribly, I suppose) and have me salivating like an idiot...
What do the pros—boxers, K1 fighters, and so on—actually use? Single or double?

I suppose I should say hello. Maybe. It’s probably not necessary, though. kaže:
It seems like everyone here only has retainers for their upper teeth, too. But since nobody actually wears braces, I guess it’s hard to tell if there’s any real difference between us.

It’s kickboxing, I guess. 🙂

I guess I'm technically training Muay Thai, but we actually spend most of our sparring sessions working on K1 style and technique. We rarely even touch lactate work, if that.
So, I’ve got this apparatus thing going on, and now my upper and lower teeth are both throbbing. It wasn't really an issue before, and I've only been wearing protection on the top anyway. Still waiting to hear back from the dentist, too. 😁

My only real concern now is the breathing aspect. Everyone tells me those double-layered ones make it impossible to catch your breath, and honestly, I'm not sure if just protecting my upper jaw is smart when my braces on the bottom are sitting there completely exposed. 🤷

Yeah, I’ve been looking into those specialized orthodontic guards too. Apparently, they offer single-layer and double-layer options, which leaves me stuck in limbo. Was a single layer enough for you? My fear is someone landing a shot that wrecks my bottom teeth, lip, or braces—even if the top guard feels sufficient for now. 😬 But it feels foolish to spring for a double layer if it’s just going to suffocate me without providing any real functional advantage. God, I'm overthinking this. 🤷

From what I can tell at my training sessions, everyone seems to only bother wearing mouthguards for their upper teeth. Maybe that's enough, I guess.
Nobody noticed anything. I guess maybe it's because the upper teeth sit further forward, or perhaps the bottom ones are just naturally stronger. Who knows.

I guess I don't quite understand why local dentists don't bother with advertising. Maybe they just think word of mouth is enough. 🙄

I guess we’re talking about martial arts here. Maybe Jiu-Jitsu or some kind of MMA. It isn't entirely clear, though.
