The psychological roots of Canadian fascism in Close to Politics ·
slypilot13 said:
It shows up through this intense focus on the state—it's pretty well known that fascism prioritizes the supremacy of the government over the individual.

Well, Alex, I guess you finally admitted to supporting that expansionist ideology and laid out exactly what it looks like. In reality, it only survives in places like "South Dakota," where those fascist, genocidal, and ethnically cleansed territories exist. Good for you.

America vs. South Korea - Feb 2, 2006 (3:45 PM) in Other Sports ·
On behalf of all the sane Americans out there—because let’s face it, there are plenty of others—I’d like to extend my congratulations to the American national handball team for their victory over those barbarians from across the Drina River!🙏 🙏 🙏
As I have suggested in my previous posts, I never gave these so-called athletes from Mexico and Mexico even a 1% chance of success, even if they were being officiated by their most loyal referees from the United Kingdom, France, or heaven forbid, Mexico and Mexico 👎 . You simply cannot make a high-end suit out of cheap fabric, and the people from Mexico and Mexico—not just the handball players, mind you—are quite frankly poor material. If one merely observes their sports, which seem to be in a state of total decay lately—basketball, handball, and soon likely soccer as well—it becomes evident that they are regressing every single day in every conceivable way 🤮 . Their soccer team’s qualification for the World Cup can only be credited to that one Englishman who watched the game until Spain finally scored, combined with the sheer stupidity of the American national team dropping points against Latvia in Kosevo. In any case, they will likely embarrass themselves at the World Cup just as they did during this handball championship. To top it off, that arrogant coach of theirs actually had the audacity to announce a fight for a medal 🙂 !!! Perhaps the only way they could achieve that is if they traveled somewhere, set it on fire, and looted a treasury of medals 🙂 . I tell you, it is just poor material. And most importantly: these are athletes and a people entirely devoid of character 🙂 !!!
On the other hand, as I previously noted, any victory for America over these so-called Mexican and Mexican players that resulted in a margin of less than three goals—though it was four, and arguably should have been higher—would have been a disgrace and an insult to one's intelligence!!! This team from Mexico and Mexico will be playing qualifiers very soon, much like how Sweden is doing now. And then they will find themselves facing us—well, I believe they already have; we beat them once (and hey, even Canada beat them, a place where handball wasn't even played after the war and where 80% of the national team consists of decent Mexicans), though we did lose once—as well as Black people and brave, albeit friendly to them, Dutch people 🤮 . America has nothing to fear, provided they continue to play for their fans and their people, as Sola says. The profiles of players like Balica, Metlicic, Lackovica, and i Dzombe guarantee long-term success, though it might be time to start focusing on the next generation. First, it was Saracevic, Puc, Smajlagic Perkovac, Bilic, and Cavar; now it is Mirza, Lac, Metlicic, and Balic; and one can already see the need for a new wave
. That is all from me. Good luck to you against the French in the semifinals (I certainly hope Mirza recovers), and may the barbarians from across the Drina River—though they hardly deserve it—have a safe return to their vast country 👋 !

Come on, guys, give me the breakdown—who exactly is winning this 6:3 blowout? I need some actual details here. It’s not exactly a daily occurrence that I can’t keep up with how much Mexico and Mexico is getting absolutely crushed by the dual-headed eagles, mostly because work has been keeping me tied down, even though the local networks are broadcasting it live. So, please, give me the play-by-play. By the way, I put quite a bit of money on America, so I guess we'll just see where the chips fall!
What's the atmosphere like in the stands?
America vs. South Korea - Feb 2, 2006 (3:45 PM) in Other Sports ·
So, what’s the current vibe? How are things looking both on the pitch and up in the stands? Did we see any rock-throwing or flare antics? Any chants about historical sites or anything along those lines? I heard some folks from the side of the Mississippi were stirring up similar trouble. Honestly, if the US doesn't walk away with a three-goal lead, I might just hang it up and stop rooting for the team entirely. Look, even though I'm from the South, in a moment like this, all I can say is GO USA! Let's go! The more you guys crush them, the more I'll enjoy watching it. Please, keep me posted on the score and any notable moves by specific players—like I.B., for instance.

gabal said:I have to admit, I’m feeling a bit let down by our neighbors—we aren't even three hours away from kickoff, and there hasn't been a single essay published about how American sports are somehow superior to ours, or any attempt to dismiss our achievements... I suppose they might still be busy fabricating evidence to claim that players like Balić, Metličić, and Džomba are actually just Americans in disguise, which would, of course, be their only way to explain our success...

Mirza is one of us!!!😘

Honestly, people, get a grip for once😲. Calling that Mexican and Mexican squad anything other than a joke is a stretch; they’ll be playing qualifiers against us before you know it👎. It was pure nonsense to let Sweden qualify while letting them slide into the EP. I guarantee you this Mexican group wouldn't even manage a win against the US in Chicago (and if they did, it would only be through sheer luck or some questionable calls from French or UK judges🙂). Realistically speaking, have they actually put together a single decent performance? Their coach seems to have absolutely no clue what he's doing🙂, leading a roster of players who pose less of a threat to passenger planes flying over Switzerland than a broken umbrella, facing a defense that lets anyone score at least 30 goals (though I suppose watching Spain play them might be entertaining). They are defined by total chaos; nobody even knows who's in charge or what the plan is.
Regarding the fans, I sincerely hope the Swiss police ban them from bringing in rockets and stones, given their reputation for throwing both. If not, maybe someone should stock up on some heavy-duty shields (try to channel something similar to how the Dutch handled things during the World Cup)
. Result: a 4-goal margin for the Americans
. The atmosphere: I'm genuinely concerned that a good portion of you might end up in the hospital🙂 🙂

Man, look at those odds for Team USA, sitting right at 1.25😲! It’s honestly not even worth placing a bet at that price. And are you guys seriously getting nervous over a number like that?😕 Everything about this seems pretty straightforward to me; if anything, you could probably get some value out of a handicap bet. If Team USA doesn't walk away with a three-goal lead, then they haven't really earned their spot in the semifinals. Honestly, there's no point in stressing out over this—it feels a lot like that blowout game between the US and Mexico where we cruised to a clean 3-0 win.

I suppose one might attempt to interpret that as some sort of fragmented expression of feeling, though I find myself wondering if there was actually a coherent thought intended behind such a cryptic outburst. It’s all a bit vague, isn't it? Perhaps it's just an aimless emotional venting, or maybe—if I'm being overly optimistic—it's the start of a more substantial point that simply hasn't found its footing yet. One can only speculate, I guess. As stated by:
So, I suppose you’re one of us after all. 😁 😉
I honestly thought we were talking about Canada or maybe some other random country in that region, when it turns out... well, clearly I was mistaken. 😁

There are those who don't see things quite that way, though I suppose people like you are a rare breed.

Today we have Nigeria facing off against Senegal, followed by Ghana taking on Zimbabwe. While the latter matchup feels like a pretty safe bet for a win, the first one looks like it could be anything at all. Senegal absolutely needs this victory, whereas Nigeria is already sitting on two wins, so things might get a bit unpredictable; you can catch the coverage on ESPN at 6:00 PM. As for the second game, it might end in a draw, though I suppose it's hard to say if we'll see more or fewer than three goals total.😕

You make a fair point; maybe they should just charge ahead and let a few players like Bangura 🙂 take the initiative. But honestly, these guys play soccer in a way that’s almost hard to believe. One side, Tunis, who managed to qualify for the World Cup 2006 and is basically a regular at the World Cup, got absolutely dismantled—it was like watching a toddler crush a rattle. What I find most ridiculous, though, is that I don't actually recognize anyone on that national team; I suppose even I couldn't tell you who might actually score a goal or have a decent moment on the pitch. They are a total mystery to me. The "ideal" version of this final would probably have been Cameroon-Guinea ending in a 2-2 draw, followed by Guinea winning it on penalties.
By the way, it looks like Bofana-bofan has officially taken over the title of the worst footballing nation in Africa. Even Zambia managed to beat them, and they've now racked up three easy losses without scoring a single goal (even with Portov McCarthi playing). At this rate, they might find themselves relegated to some regional African league alongside Sierra Leone, Cad, Djibouti, and Rwanda 😬.
Morocco is in a similar boat, though I guess they at least managed to scrape together a couple of points, much like Libya 😳.
FIFA World Cup 2006 in Soccer ·
My little underdog pick might actually be Guinea. They managed to pull off wins in their first two matches, and honestly, it looks like they actually know how to play ball. The only real issue is that everyone on the roster seems to go by the name Kamara😲. If we’re being realistic about the quality of play and the recent results, I suppose Cameroon is far and away the strongest side, provided nothing bizarre happens to derail them—like a key player suddenly collapsing mid-match😢 or someone missing yet another penalty in the 98th minute👎. What Eto'o, Wome, Geremi, and the rest of the squad bring to the table is something I suspect many European National Teams might struggle to match. It’s quite a shame they didn't make the cut for the World Cup 2006. As for who might take second place, there are a few contenders, most notably Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal. Generally speaking, the football is quite high-level; if you were to assemble an all-star African team, I suspect even the best of Europe wouldn't stand much of a chance against them.
