Sometimes, just occasionally, I'll poke around online, but I don't really feel like searching, and I definitely don't want to spend my time reading off a screen...
Just a quick thought on Netflix: As a publication for video rental shops, it isn't bad if you're looking for something purely informative, almost like the blurb printed on the back of a VHS box. 🙂 It’s fine if you missed a movie and just want to check the plot.
I guess I say that because about 90% of what's in there is basically an ADVERTISEMENT. Every single movie looks great because they have to sell them at the rental stores. I actually have some connections with Netflix, so I read it, but I didn't mention it before since it isn't exactly serious reading for a true cineaste.
...mostly I stick to British outlets like EMPIRE and Rotten Tomatoes, which all feel pretty much the same anyway (kind of like Uncut), depending on what specific details about a movie you're looking for.
....I scan through American opinions (though they don't mean much to me, I guess) in various magazines, mostly lifestyle stuff: Vanity Fair, for example. Oh, and I check out American Cinematographer every now and then too.
I figured I’d chime in as a woman and give some actual thoughts on these guys:
Brad Pitt - honestly just great in every single way. Benicio Del Toro - also just great in every single way. Depp - yeah, great in every single way too. Joaquin - he's good... in certain ways, I guess.
so, three of them move on:
Brad - still great in every way. Benicio Del Toro - great in every way, though maybe a bit too much of a tough guy vibe. Depp - definitely great in every way.
now we're down to two:
Brad - still great, but his hair is just way too short now. Depp - great in every way.
I have this nagging feeling it’s just going to be the tenth imitation of Gladiator we've seen, which usually means it'll be an incredibly exhausting movie to sit through.
But hey, man, as long as Brad Pitt is in it, I guess we'll at least have something worth looking at.👍
I'm running a bit behind on my watchlist lately, so I've just been digging through the archives to catch up. 😁
To be honest, I wasn't really feeling the vibe for Monster at first. The whole subject matter isn't exactly my thing—trying to look at the "humanity" of a serial killer from any angle... I don't know. 😛
But anyway, the movie itself is actually pretty well made. I guess you could call it a bit one-dimensional, but that makes sense given how sensitive the topic is. Charlize is totally unrecognizable, so I suppose the beauty enthusiasts (haha) didn't get much out of that. Personally, I don't mind the heavy prosthetics; if she can pull off those expressions with all that makeup, she could do it with way less. She's honestly a better actress than I remembered, and she truly deserved that Oscar. :klap:
By the end of it, I found myself thinking about how incredibly hard it must be to be a juror or a judge—deciding who lives, who dies, or who spends their life behind bars. I don't think I could ever be in their shoes. You have to sleep with those decisions at night, especially when things aren't exactly black and white (though that might not even apply to Aileen Wuornos).
So, here’s another one from a lady—hope you get plenty of kisses on both cheeks. 😘 🙂 🎉
I mean, I want the same thing our moderator and Reign do, so I guess there's three of us now. And if there are three of us, then a McLaren Automotive HAS to be in the top three at the next race. 😁
Exactly! That's what I mean—you won't find anyone else quite like them except at Mus (Ratnik)! 🙂 (honestly, you really played that one perfectly... total diversion tactic! nice work!)
p.s. the mods on this chat are probably going to tear us apart 😛

I am so incredibly sorry for totally ignoring this discussion🙂 (and for being such a jerk 🙂)
I tried to find time to rewatch the movie, but things got busy (I mean, the UEFA Champions League is way more exciting right now 😬...
I think a few people here convinced me that you can't just watch a film like this the way you'd breeze through some old Apple and Pear recipes, so I decided I really should sit down and watch this little masterpiece of American cinema 😛 all the way through again 🙂 I promise I won't be watching it in tiny bits, or obsessing over where everyone is looking or how long their hair is...😁
I guess I'll finally start my own thread on the IMF forums 🙂>
So, there was this one night where I watched this really standout Australian... hm... horror movie called Razorback, or wild boar.
I mean, it basically counts as a horror since it’s hard to put it in any other category, though maybe that doesn't quite fit for me (not that anyone asked me, right? 🙂 )
It was actually one of the first films I ever tried to transcribe by ear, and it honestly messed with my head for two days and two nights—mostly because I couldn't quite wrap my brain around the Australian accent back then. It taught me that you really have to watch the whole thing before you even attempt to translate it. I think that topic came up once over at Studengor 🙂 .
It’s one of those rare movies that doesn't need gallons of blood to work; it just stays creepy and gives you the chills the whole time. It even has a plot based on some true events, though they definitely added a little bit of a fantasy twist to it. The cinematography and the overall vibe are just so well done (directed by Russell Mulcahy, if I remember correctly).
And man, the music is everything. It was done by Iva Davies, the guy who led that famous Australian band Icehouse. George Lucas once said that the music makes up 50% of the movie experience, and I think this film proves that point perfectly.
Has anyone else seen it? Or did it just fly under your radar? (If I had known they were airing it, I would have made an announcement. 🙂 )
...guys like that only exist in movies (you know, those lines like "hey ladies, go watch Musa-Ratnik if you want to see what a real man actually looks like—the kind you'll never meet in real life...")
