So, yeah—formatting the whole disk just isn't happening for me.

Honestly, why not just wipe the C drive? Leave the other partitions alone and you should be fine..
Honestly, just take a full day off—grab a new graphics card, wipe the hard drive, and call it a day. You aren't exactly reinstalling Windows every single morning, right? At least, that's how I see it—it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
Thank God you finally realized 😁 there’s really no point in overthinking it now—it's not like you buy a car and expect a brand-new model to drop just a few months later, right? 😁 Tech components change at the speed of light, with some new gadget constantly coming out to shake things up.
Go ahead and download Crystal Dew World to check your drive's health status.

Regarding that RAM issue—it’s very likely that either your CPU or your motherboard is using integrated graphics, which means it's carving out a chunk of your system memory for itself.
Just save up your cash until you hit a solid budget—buying parts one by one is honestly kind of a headache.
Which optical drive should I get? in Desktops ·
He probably means those Windows versions you find on torrent sites—the ones where they’ve baked in all sorts of extra bloatware, random drivers, chipsets, and other junk right into the installation. I wouldn't touch those with a ten-foot pole, personally. If you can help it, try to grab them from a legitimate site like Microsoft—I won't drop a link here because I'd rather not catch a BAN. If you get a proper version of Windows 7/8, you'll have all the latest updates integrated up through this month, and everything just works the way it's supposed to since it's actually clean Windows.
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
I can't say much about NOD32—I used it back in the day, but it never really felt like the right fit for me.
As for Emsisoft, I actually stumbled upon it a few months ago and spent some time digging through reviews from pretty much everyone. Honestly, it’s 👍If you're looking for a change, maybe try uninstalling NOD32 and grabbing Emsisoft Anti-Malware instead? It’s basically getting the best of both worlds by combining an antivirus and anti-malware into one package.

It’s looking pretty likely that you've got a virus or some other kind of malware messing with things. You should probably grab https://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/

just download it, extract the files, run the updates, and then go ahead with a full system scan. Once it finds whatever junk is hiding there, just delete it—then try booting your computer up "normally" without using Safe Mode.

I haven't been reading since the very beginning, so I'm a bit lost now—what exactly did Brian Campbell36 end up doing? I see there’s some mention of $200 here.

Brian Campbell36 Don't get too worked up over the Windows index—it’s pretty much useless for what you actually care about. You're better off just jumping into a game and seeing what your actual FPS looks like.
Budget gaming build under $600? in Desktops ·
My advice? Try to scrape together another $1,500--$667 if you can swing it. You'll end up with a much beefier processor and an SSD, which makes all the difference.

And I was hoping to hook up both my monitor and my TV—just so I could watch some movies from my PC. Everything went smoothly with the monitor using a VGA cable, so that part is fine. But the TV has been giving me trouble; the card uses mini-HDMI while the TV just has a standard HDMI port, so I ordered an adapter off eBay. Now that it’s finally arrived, I can't get them to work together at all. The TV seems to realize something is plugged in, but there's no signal, and then the graphics card doesn't even seem to recognize that anything is connected...

I even tried a different HDMI cable, but still nothing...

Does anyone have any ideas?

If you're running Windows 7/8, have you checked the screen resolution settings to see if the TV is actually being detected there?
Why isn't this showing up in my imported gallery (Chicago) anymore?

Brian Campbell36 Looks like you've got some extra cash on hand—so why didn't you just go for a more powerful card from the jump? Something like an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 or maybe an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 🤔

Honestly, forget about CF—I’d much rather save up my cash for one powerhouse graphics card than settle for two weaker ones.
Reliable office PC recommendations? in Desktops ·
Yeah, honestly, people don't realize that Windows isn't always smart enough to tell you the full story. If you've got an Intel chip with hyper-threading, Device Manager might show you two cores when it’s actually just a single physical core—it can be pretty misleading, right? It's usually best to just head over to the Intel website and check under the specific core category to see how many actual, physical cores you're really working with.

Man, I dealt with this exact same headache about two years ago—I just couldn't figure out how to keep the drive from constantly spinning down or going inactive.

Basically, there's no point in doing this too early—just reach out a few days before you're ready to buy.
