Advice for buying a gaming PC! in Desktops ·
There’s really no point in sitting around for four or five months waiting for prices to dip or for AMD to drop a new series of graphics cards—because by the time those six or seven months have actually passed, some brand-new technology will probably be announced, leaving you wondering if you should wait yet again. The answer? No. If someone feels like buying right now, they should just go for it. Honestly, the world moves so fast these days that you can't exactly have your cake and eat it too.
NVIDIA GTX 780 driver issues in Desktops ·
If I were in your shoes, I’d probably just wipe the hard drive and do a clean install of macOS—then grab the latest drivers directly from the Intel site. If that doesn't fix it, there's a pretty good chance the GPU is actually toast 😠 But hey, I’m really hoping it turns out to be just a software glitch.

Maybe try running the drivers straight from the disc first and see how that goes.

Just save it wherever you have your browser set up to go—usually, it just defaults to your Downloads folder in My Documents.

Well, you might want to try a clean uninstall first—just wipe everything out completely. If you happen to have CCleaner handy, you could run that too just to be safe. After that, give the computer a quick restart, head back over to the Intel site to grab the latest drivers, and then we can see if that actually does the trick.

You can definitely put a card that's about 10 centimeters long onto your motherboard $ the real issue is your processor—it just isn't powerful enough to handle a beefier graphics card without creating a massive bottleneck.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat—I can't really run it on Ultra either. I mean, sure, I can get it going, but I have to keep things like anti-aliasing and all those other little extras turned off just to stay afloat (running an i5 4670k and a GTX 970 here). Honestly, Ubisoft's optimization is such a headache.
Driver installation help needed in Desktops ·
So, which specific drivers are you looking for, and which version of Windows are you actually running? If you're still on Windows 7, then you'll want to grab the Audio driver (Realtek Function driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip (Including Microsoft UAA driver in English edition )))

Then, go ahead and download the chipset driver (AMD chipset driver (include chipset \ sata raid driver))

In case you don't have an internet connection ready to go, you should probably grab the LAN driver (Realtek LAN Driver)

Just to reiterate—if you're using Windows 7, make sure to snag the USB 3.0 driver too; if you've moved up to Windows 8 8.1, though, you can skip that one.

That R9 270 is your graphics card, right? Just head over to Google and search for "AMD drivers." From there, just select desktop graphics, pick the r9 2 xx series, choose your specific version of Windows, and hit "display results." Once you download and install it, you're all set.

When you boot up your computer, does it actually show you a list of usernames and profile pictures so you can pick which account to log into?

I honestly don't have the energy to keep this back-and-forth going with you—so, I'll just say goodbye and good luck with whatever new handle you pick. Just a little tip for next time? Maybe try using some better grammar and adding a few line breaks... it makes things a lot easier to follow. 👋

I’m only speaking up because I actually know what's going on here—you’ve only been on this forum for two months under the Sean Garcia3 handle, right? And let's be real, we're all just waiting for you to catch another ban. People aren't exactly oblivious; they can tell when someone just jumps right back in with a fresh profile to dodge the rules. Do you really want me to call out exactly which one you used before? Please, let's not go there—honestly, you’re still acting like you're in your teenage years.

Did the System Restore get wiped? It usually eats up a ton of disk space if you haven't disabled it or dialed back the percentage used.

Sean Garcia3 said:If that GTX 980 actually lived up to its price tag—and if it were truly worth the jump from a GTX 970—maybe I’d consider pulling the trigger. But honestly? Paying top dollar for a card that only nets you an extra 3 or 4 FPS over a cheaper model... is it really worth it? Not when the lower-end option is already such a solid value. $667 Nothing cheaper really comes to mind right now—I've said my piece. Honestly, I'm just going to sit tight and wait for AMD to drop their next series, and then I'll make my move. That's that.

And honestly, what are you even talking about when it comes to blowing past a budget? That logic just doesn't hold up for me—I end up crossing that line just like everyone else once I hit that $50 mark.$33 Sometimes I don't say anything at all—I just let things be—but other times, I’ll suggest putting a little more money upfront. Isn't it usually worth it to get something higher quality? You end up getting much better performance, and honestly, you can use those components for a lot longer down the road.

Look, man, everyone here is pretty much fed up with you. Honestly, whenever I see you popping up in a thread, it just starts a fight—it’s frustrating. It’s really no wonder you’ve been banned a few times; if I were an admin, I’d probably just block your IP address to keep you away from this forum for good. It’s just not right. You’ll start a whole new thread to ask a question, and then—within minutes—you're already jumping in to give yourself the answers? That’s just weird behavior. This is the last time I'm saying this to you, though. Seriously, work on yourself. Take care.

In my experience, I used to be an AMD user—back when they were still called ATI around 2004—and I went through maybe 10 or 15 ATI cards without ever hitting a single snag. Eventually, I decided to branch out into Nvidia territory, moving from an Nvidia GTX 660 over to an Nvidia GTX 970. Personally, I find Nvidia's drivers just easier to handle? You can basically just run a clean installation without having to jump into the Control Panel, uninstall everything, reboot the PC, and then try to install the new ones—which is what you often have to do with AMD just to make sure old driver remnants don't cause issues. That’s really the only reason I mentioned that Nvidia's drivers feel more streamlined than the red team's 😁

Maybe try using the official Java removal tool to wipe it clean first—then just give your computer a quick restart before you attempt the reinstall.

How to disable "Run as administrator" prompts? in IT Support ·
You’ll need to log in using a user account that has administrator privileges—you know, one belonging to someone like a brother, a sister, or maybe a parent.

Just toss an extra $1,500$667 onto the pile and grab an Nvidia GTX 980 instead—since you always seem to blow past your budget anyway, I’d say just go ahead and treat yourself now.😉

And hey, don't go twisting my words here. Who actually said AMD has bad drivers or that they don't work properly? All I said was that Nvidia's are better.
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
AMD offers better bang for your buck—there's no denying that. But don't mistake value for pure performance; Nvidia has the edge when it comes to technology, architecture, and much smoother drivers, which is exactly why they command a higher price tag. Please, let's not conflate the two. You came here asking for advice, so there's no need to lecture me—I've owned both AMD and Nvidia hardware, so I know the landscape pretty well. And just because the Nvidia GTX 970 only has "just" 3.5GB of VRAM doesn't mean it's a bad card, nor does it mean nobody wants to buy it anymore. It’s still plenty capable for 1080p gaming—and honestly, it can handle higher resolutions too—it just isn't meant for 4K. By the way, what kind of CPUs are we looking at now? You're pivoting to processors out of nowhere...
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Honestly, I’m not too worried about it—I’ve got that specific card myself, and my monitor isn't even running at a massive resolution. Most people are just gaming at 1080p anyway, so you really won't run into this issue. Sure, if you're pushing 4K, you might see some problems, but let's be real: a card like this isn't exactly built to handle 4K on standard settings without stuttering regardless.

EDIT: Maybe this comes off a bit blunt, and look, I’m not exactly a huge fanboy of either Nvidia or AMD, but in most cases, Nvidia tends to have the more powerful cards—plus, they usually pull way less power than the red team. So, when AMD drops their next series and releases cards meant to compete with the Nvidia GTX 970, they'll likely be drawing a lot more juice. It’s always been that way, right? Nvidia might be pricier, but there’s usually a good reason for it.
