I happened to come across some info in a health book suggesting these are great options:
- radishes—either juice them or grate them up to eat a few times a day
- young dandelion greens tossed in a salad
- walnut leaves or dandelion root...

Since you mentioned detoxing, you might want to try nettle tea; it’s actually one of my absolute favorites! 😁

I just pop in here to remind myself of the promises I made to myself and to see how you "non-smokers since last summer" are doing! :-))

congratulate you on the new addition to the family!!! 👋

Go ahead and tease the "non-smokers," but trust me, I fully intend to keep my word—just let me get through these deadlines first... 😬

Oh, I actually stopped around New Year's Eve, but then I got caught up in some drama with this one guy, and work deadlines hit...
Basically, I'm just making excuses, but I'll definitely be back soon, that's for sure... 🙂

How are things going on your end?

You're going to have to change your username, stormycyclist13, 😁 because you're making things awkward!

I've fallen off the wagon myself, but I really intend to quit—it’s such a terrible habit!
Mavrović's bread in Health ·
Mavrovič's bread... man, I seriously miss that stuff. The only time I actually crave it is when I'm back home in St., because you just can't find anything like it here! 🙂

Hehehehe, if people saw me now, they’d probably die laughing!

I’ve fallen off the wagon a little bit—I decided to treat myself, and honestly, I know I shouldn't have, so I really need to 🙂

But I don't feel guilty because I didn't go overboard. I kept it under control, so I'm going to get back on track as soon as possible. I'm actually feeling pretty disgusted by the whole thing, so I'm calling it quits for good starting New Year's Day. 😁
Which sweetener is best? in Health ·
I don't believe in sweet things without calories, just like I don't believe in beer without alcohol. 😬

But seriously, why don't I use artificial sweeteners?
The name alone tells you everything you need to know—they're artificial. I try my best to base my diet on completely natural foods, though honestly, in this day and age, that’s nearly impossible.
Still, I avoid processed products as much as I can.
Which sweetener is best? in Health ·
Honey and brown sugar.

I actually toss honey into my coffee—my friends used to think I was losing it 😬 but honestly, the flavor is incredible, just super rich and satisfying. When I'm out grabbing a cup, I always stick to black, but when I'm making it at home, I go for honey or brown sugar.

As for white sugar or artificial sweeteners? Not a chance in my house. 😁

You basically admitted everything yourself there... 😛 😁

Seriously, stop spamming us with those silly ads. You already started a whole different thread just to promote this stuff; this isn't your platform. People come here looking for actual support, and honestly, out of pure spite, I would never buy your low-quality product... 🙂

😂

Oh my god, I am absolutely dying laughing at this! 😁

But seriously, you figure everything out on your own eventually, though life without cigarettes feels incredible. Sometimes the cravings hit, which is totally normal, but it’s just a little test of character. Honestly, it's kind of fun! hehe! 😁

Huge props to everyone who finally quit! 🙂
I just got a fine from the MTA in Miscellaneous ·
A friend of mine got busted in NYC, so she handed over her ID with her old address in ST. Turns out she’d moved, and since the tickets were being sent to the wrong place, she never even saw them.
Then a warrant was issued for her arrest! 😲 😁
When she went to update her ID, a cop in blue intercepted her and took her straight to the station. She spent two whole days losing her mind trying to get that warrant cleared! 😁
Now she just owes the fine.

Another friend of mine—total wildcard—refused to pay. Her tickets kept going to that ST address too, so she just kept forgetting about them 😬, and now she’s facing three days in jail!!!

God, why do I hang out with such criminals? 😁

I know a single fare is pretty pricey, but if you're studying in NYC, $13 monthly passes actually make sense. If not, you can grab a day pass; it costs a bit more than a single trip, but you can ride all day long 😁

Anyway, my advice is to just pay it ASAP. Don't assume they'll just forget about you like my friends did 😁; you'll just end up with unnecessary headaches! 🙂

Ugh, I have to admit, the craving for a cigarette has tempted me a few times over the last couple of days. It’s probably just because I’ve been sitting at Starbucks a bit more often than usual, but I haven't lit up and I don't plan to!

I’m coming up on almost two months smoke-free now—wow, even I surprised myself there. There is absolutely no way I'm starting again! 😁

I actually went on an automatic diet once I decided to quit. Well, back when I was home in St. Louis I wasn't really dieting; I honestly can't make up my mind about food to save my life 🙂 but whenever I go back to the college lifestyle, I know the weight comes back fast, so staying fit isn't really my struggle. 🙂

boldpuma89, how are things going with you? Are you still down to just a few a day or what?

She probably didn't prep it right. She keeps saying everything has to be sterile, otherwise you risk your health.😲

Jose Gray5 bought some last month, but I wouldn't risk it personally. Dealing with germs and "sterility" in a college dorm? No thanks! hehe

Just so you know, I once knew a guy who left behind a wife and two tiny kids when he passed at 42... and he NEVER even touched a cigarette! It’s just people being reckless with their health... he ended up dying from spinal cancer anyway.

Look, we all know there are cases where people get lung cancer without ever picking up a cigarette in their lives. But if smoking is proven to be one of the primary causes, then yeah, I want to avoid it—both for that reason and because of all those other great points Kimberly Williams already mentioned...

And you, if you're going to be such an asshole about how much you enjoy smoking, at least have the decency not to do it on a thread dedicated to QUITTING. 😠

Honestly, I am absolutely obsessed with all these herbal remedies and teas (I actually have a cup of green tea right here next to me—my friends always joke that I’m basically a witch because I’m constantly brewing something up 😬)

Where can I pick some of those mushrooms up, and what kind of price am I looking at?
Tanning beds: how risky are they really? in Health ·
I think I read somewhere, maybe in a medical journal or an article on WebMD, that studies show tanning beds can be ten times more harmful than just soaking up the sun.

Speaking from my own experience, I went in a couple of times earlier this year, and honestly, I can't stand how I feel afterward. It’s this weird, "airy" sensation that just feels off. Plus, if you look at the girls who go there all the time, that tan looks totally fake—it’s just not my vibe.👎

I doubt I'll ever step foot in one again. Sure, the sun isn't exactly healthy either, but at least it's natural.🙂

Come on, boldpuma89, you're on the right track! I'm crossing my fingers for you. 👍
Decide for yourself when you're going to make the final cut. Honestly, I think what you've achieved so far is already a huge win, but that final break still needs to happen since you're still smoking! 🙂

It’s been about a day and a half since I quit, and man, the breathing difference is real. Today I ended up sprinting from the bus stop to campus—I was running late for an exam, total disaster—and I can't believe how easily I did it. I didn't even lose my breath for a single second. 😁
Ugh, cigarettes... just gross. 😁

Look, Rolada, just don't go walking away thinking you're losing out on anything—like some little prize or a consolation gift or whatever...

You actually gain way more than just the fleeting satisfaction of a smoke (which, let's be honest, isn't even that great), you get your health back, clarity, time (man, you get so much time back), a little extra cash, and most importantly, freedom!

Listen, the choice is yours, but honestly, being free from tobacco is pure bliss. 🙂 👍
Tips for quitting smoking! in Health ·
Bravo Kevin White5 👍

I'm in the same boat. As an occasional smoker, if I actually tallied up my usage—since I’ve always been good at taking breaks—it’s probably only about 4 or 5 years total.

Just wanted to check in and say I haven't lit up in 20 days now, and man, I feel incredible! 😎
This time I’m dead serious. I promise I'll come back here and report in if I happen to slip up, just so someone can give me a good 🙂

But I truly believe I'm going to crush it this time. Luckily, I headed out of town for a getaway this weekend and didn't think about smoking for even a single second. Honestly, I've just been noticing how rough people look when they smoke, especially women—it’s just not a good look. Plus, whenever I grab coffee out somewhere, the smell of cigarettes really bothers me now. It feels like I'm finally on the right track. 🙂

Sunčice, your story is so inspiring. At the end of the day, it's all about willpower. What I hated most was that nagging feeling that you "need" something. You know, like waking up in the middle of the night realizing you're out of tobacco and getting all worked up? It’s just stupid to be dependent on anything, especially things that are actively hurting us!

boldpuma89 said:Kimberly Williams - have you tried it yet?

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say I haven't touched a cigarette in 15 days now. 😁 Honestly, screw them. They aren't even worth the hype once you actually crunch the numbers on what you're spending versus what you're getting.

I've been avoiding coffee and those long, lazy hangouts at cafes—that's usually when the cravings hit hardest. Instead, I'm sticking to tons of green tea. I can already tell my skin looks fresher. Seriously, tobacco is trash; I really don't want to look like an old wreck by the time I'm 22. 😂 (I mean, I haven't had any health issues from smoking so far, but I know that's coming eventually.)

Looking at this thread, some people are mentioning cigars. That actually sounds like a decent occasional substitute, unlike that toxic junk they sell in local shops. If I ever saw the actual ingredients in those cigarettes, I'd lose it. 🙂
I've made a pact: if I even feel the urge to light up, I'll post about it here and expose myself to public ridicule. 🤣 At least that way, I'll stay motivated just out of pure spite. 😉
