For me, there was never even a debate, and I’ve felt this way since I was ten years old. Maradona was always a selfish player who only cared about his own name and elevating his own ego. He always put himself first and the rest of the team second. He lied, cheated, stole, used drugs, took liberties, covered things up, played dirty... you name it. All of that just because he managed a few solo runs and scored a goal. And regarding that "Hand of God" incident? Nobody even knew about it until he came along, and even then, he admitted it was a hand, despite swearing on his mother, his entire family, and God that he had headed the ball—even though a blind man could have felt how much of a setup that was.
On the other hand, Pele was a true master who played for the team, which is exactly what makes football beautiful. Every ball he touched seemed to have eyes; many of the greatest moves in history started with him, and scoring wasn't his only priority.
All things considered, on a scale of 1 to 10, Pele is a solid 9, while Maradona is maybe a 3... and even that is being generous.🙂
