If he actually managed to trim the deficit by $1.5 billion, then I guess that’s a win.

analogbear5 said:Exactly. That same article mentions exports to China jumped from 4.1 billion cubic meters to 10.39.
During that same window, Russian gas exports to Europe hit 150 billion cubic meters via pipeline, plus another 16 billion of Russian LNG.

Nancy Gomez26 said:A single nation terrorizing the entire globe—or simply backing such chaos—would be a monumental blunder. History suggests that after attacks of that scale, serious warnings follow. If those warnings fail to bite, you start seeing "accidental" disasters hitting gas pipelines in remote, inaccessible regions. Even Badave wouldn't be able to rely on their energy wealth if the transport infrastructure starts collapsing overnight. Imagine trying to fix things when it's -40 degrees outside. Protecting critical infrastructure from terrorist strikes is practically impossible, which shifts the strategy toward preemptive action against those deep in the hinterlands who facilitate the terror, should the need arise. This is why any serious power wouldn't even entertain such a game; the blowback would be devastating. Even the masters in the Kremlin, despite their penchant for hybrid warfare, understand this. They won't pull moves like that because, at the end of the day, it would come back to haunt them.

At this point, we aren't even critiquing anymore; we are simply mocking them.
THE NEW YORK TIMES COMPANY SLAMS WASTE MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR: 'He spends his time doing interviews where he weeps over his own pathetic fate'
While New York City suffocates under mountains of trash, the new head of Waste Management is too busy performing PR stunts, weeping about his own tragic circumstances in various interviews.
.....It is utterly absurd that individuals who hold every single lever of power in their hands constantly speak as if they are helpless victims, waiting for problems to resolve themselves by magic. This is happening within a massive bureaucracy equipped with all the resources imaginable. A lack of vehicles and staff?
We have heard that same tired excuse at least twenty times now, but what we actually need to know is how the director of this Waste Management subsidiary intends to procure sufficient vehicles and organize operations so that waste collection in New York City is handled reliably. Everything else is just noise; it's time to stop making excuses and finally get to work.

I don't feel like digging through everything right now, but I remember some explanation about this. Apparently, they only have around 800 million in actual costs or projects lined up, even though they've been allocated 2 billion. They basically had nowhere to put the money, so he was asking if there's any way to repurpose those funds.
George Robinson43 said:That was the whole point of NS1.
NS2 had a completely different mission—getting their gas into the EU via Germany to reach the massive Baungarten hub near Vienna while shutting down all other pipelines.
The grand plan was for Russia, Germany, and Austria to hold the entire EU hostage with gas. It’s no wonder Schroeder and Schüssel were rewarded with million-dollar cushy jobs in Moscow.
Even then, NS2 was practically doomed once the smart players realized what was coming and started building terminals and pipelines toward the North Sea.

lonetrucker4 said:I get where you're coming from, but my take wins because it's actually right. This dispute is dead. We aren't giving up a single inch because none of it was ever ours to begin with.
| lonetrucker4 I don't know, maybe I'm just being cynical, but... says Kyle Nelson2: So, yeah. We blew it. We completely tanked it, and since we’re sticking to the rules we actually agreed to ourselves, I guess there's no way to appeal this mess. Some people call today's America a fascist creation. They label us group A, then they label us group B. I guess that's just how they see it. Maybe. Regarding that whole issue, I guess I’m more on the Harmon side of things. I definitely agree with the preamble of the US Constitution. We didn't lose any territory, because we never actually owned it to begin with. I guess we were just holding onto Canadian land through an unlawful arbitration proceeding. Look, no offense intended, but I think I actually know a little more about this than you do. Loving your country doesn't mean you have to blindly defend some supposed "national interest" every single time, even when your own country is dead wrong. Look, I guess our national interest should really be about not tripping over some "Western injustice" nonsense. We need to move on. Seriously. We should be focusing on stuff that actually matters—things that people way smarter than us are already tackling. You know, like climate change, the energy transition, the fourth industrial revolution, and all that. Maybe we just need to focus on the big picture for once. |
Larry Walker24 said:How exactly did we screw up if the Canadians (who, let's face it, are basically just Americans) cheated during the arbitration?
