Budget PC build under $750? in Desktops ·
I was talking nonsense just like this a few months ago myself. Listen to what people are telling you and just get a better power supply.

1 x Intel Core i7-3770K Processor 3.5GHz, 14MB, 95W, LGA 1155
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H, LGA 1155, Intel Z77, 4x DDR3 2400(O.C.)/2133
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 780, Double Dissipation Edition, 933M
1 x DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) Kingston, Corsair Vengeance, 1866MHz, CL10
1 x HDD Seagate 1TB, Serial ATA III, 7200 rpm, ST1000DM003
1 x Power Supply EVGA 600W, Hyper, PPA6003302, 12cm fan
1 x Zalman Z3 mid tower case. 192(W)x465(H)x430(D)mm. ATX standard
1 x ZALMAN CNPS 5X Performa, socket 775/1155/1156/AM2/AM2/AM3

$1737

The case isn't lacking anything, and I'd probably grab it myself, but not if it means sacrificing better components inside. Maybe work on your airflow better before you commit to this.

http://www.nabava.net/out.php?enc=Z7...e1069d38669d02

But I mean, it's your money. You could buy cases for hundreds of dollars, but I don't know what you'll have left over to actually put in it.

I don't live in Siberia, I live in San Diego, so that comparison is pretty pointless. If you're worried about temps, you've got a decent GTX 960; it'll be hard to find something cooler and quieter.
The case is from... $333 The R9 270? I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. I guess I was originally thinking about skimping on the motherboard and just grabbing the R4 for RAM, but then I realized that would probably be a mistake. I ended up going with the Z3+ and a better motherboard along with 4 GB of RAM. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

Regarding the price, I bought this rig just three weeks ago, and I guess I was already looking to get rid of it only a week later. $67 More now, and then you're stuck waiting six months.😉

P.S. Thanks to everyone on the forum who helped me out with the build.👍

It's only about six months old and was bought from Micro Center. I doubt you'll find anything better than this.

Adam Moore3 said:With a Micro-ATX board you only get 2 RAM slots, but this one has 4. As for cases, just go with the Zalman Z3 or Z3 Plus; you can't really go wrong there.

Are you sure about that?

I guess I'm curious about the Z3, but are the fans actually loud? I know I'm 🥱, but still.😁

crimsonstag84 said:Zalman R1 🙂

Both the Intel ® B85 and the B85-HD3 have 4 RAM slots, so feel free to grab the B85-HD3; it gives you more room.

👍 I have to admit, the R1 looks better, honestly.

Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 599,99 USD $200 So, should I go for this one if it's only about 10 bucks more, or just stick with that mATX option?

Also, any case recommendations? I was thinking about going with the K280, but I see they've got the Zalman Z1, Z3, and Z3+ in stock at AMD. Which one would you pick? This is aside from the fact that if I go with the K280, I'd probably need an extra fan.

Robert Rodriguez2 said:I don't think so. I guess the jump from Haswell to Broadwell should be similar to what we saw between Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge.
The biggest improvement is just the integrated graphics, which you probably won't even use.

Maybe just grab a cheaper B85 board with 4 RAM slots and call it a day. 😉

👍

If your choice is between the Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H 586 USD or the ASUS B85M-G 570 $195/ASUS B85M-G $190, which one would you pick?
Advice for buying a gaming PC! in Desktops ·
Back again.😁 I've settled on the GPU and CPU combo (i5 4460 + R9 280), but I'm still stuck on the motherboard, so I figured I'd ask for some advice.

Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H $195

ASUS B85M-G $190

Asrock H97 ANNIVERSARY $220

ASUS H97M-E, 1150 $249

Everything is from AMD.

Would the last two give me enough room to upgrade to the upcoming Broadwell later? Maybe it's worth shelling out an extra 100-$67 for that.

Timothy Kim60 said:XFX is quieter, while Gigabyte runs cooler. They're minor differences—doesn't really matter.

If you're looking at USA standards for power supplies—what CPU are you running?

So, should I just keep the $43 in my pocket and go with XFX?😁

Intel's, specifically an i5 4460.
Advice for buying a gaming PC! in Desktops ·
Is this XFX $43 cheaper in the USA than Gigabyte's?

If I go with the 280, should I grab the Fortron Hyper 600 w, 80+, or maybe a 500 is enough?

Sean Garcia3 said:This is terrible. 1500-$533 For a standard i5, you could probably find an i5 4670k for that kind of money at Best Buy or Micro Center if you looked about 3 or 4 months ago. As for the power supply, I'd suggest grabbing a Fortron Hyper 500w. It comes with a five-year warranty and is a bit better, even if it does cost more. $13You don't even have 8GB of RAM, so it's just chaos. I guess if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't buy anything for at least five months.
I'll see what I can put together at Uzi.

I know it all. I really screwed myself by not buying everything when I had the chance late last year. Back then, my budget was... $1500Look, I already said just wait a bit, and it’ll eventually hit 5,000. Right now, I managed to push it up to 5,500, but there's always some kind of compromise or constant shifting around. I guess if I had handled that end of things differently last year, I might have actually gotten... 😵😵Damn dollar. 😠

I was actually over at ADM looking at the Gigabyte R7 280, and it was... $550Next day. $617.🤣

I stretched my budget by maybe $100 to put this together. Now, I guess the question is: should I just pull the trigger now, or wait for component prices to drop?🤔

Adam Moore3 said:Don't bother reading what's written on manufacturer websites. And talking about power supplies? That's a whole different story. We've covered that topic so many times on this forum that I feel like a broken record. 🙂 Look, you don't have anything to worry about regarding the power supply. Hyper handles that just fine. As for the RAM, 8 GB is pretty much the bare minimum for gaming these days, but you can easily add more later. There’s no point in skimping on the CPU or GPU just to save for extra RAM that you could probably pick up next month, like you mentioned. That second combo is alright too—you get a stronger processor right out of the gate, though it wouldn't be my first choice. Honestly, the Ryzen 5 3600 + RX 580 will likely run 90% of games better since the 3600 is strong enough to handle basically anything, and the RX 580 is noticeably more powerful than the GTX 1050 Ti, so you'd have the advantage there. If it were me, I'd either go with the Ryzen 5 3600 + RX 580 or the Intel Core i5-12400 + GTX 1050 Ti. 🙂

Adam Moore3 said:It's a significant upgrade; you can see that for yourself, especially regarding the GPUs. That 750Ti is pretty weak compared to an RX 580 when using Intel, and it’s even worse if you go with AMD—specifically that RX 580 + Ryzen 5 3600 combo. You get a much more powerful graphics card there, and a significantly weaker processor. Personally, I’d lean toward the Intel + RX 580 setup; it feels more balanced, and you could always drop in a beast of a GPU later if you wanted to. Either way, you won't make a mistake, and you'll come out way ahead compared to buying from Newegg. 🙂

My old AMD setup was an RX 580 + Ryzen 5 3600, I guess.👍 I don't need to grab the 8 GB of RAM right away. I'll sort that out next month instead, which leaves me with maybe $45 in wiggle room. 😁

So, doesn't the RX 580 need a 600W PSU?

What about an RX 580 + Ryzen 7 3700X combo? Maybe the EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 with 2 GB GDDR5?

Timothy Kim60 said:You think a refund would be any faster at HGspot? 😬
If you pay cash, you might get a much better deal...

Besides, what is that PC even going to be used for?

I don't know, maybe it's just easier to argue face-to-face than over email, I guess...😁

It's about the cash. How much better?☕ 😁

Let's say, after a long time (my 9600gt is basically ready for retirement), I want to play some new titles, and I don't want to stress about whether I can run them on medium settings two years from now.😬

Feel free to suggest something. Throw some AMD options out there too. I'm leaning towards Intel and Nvidia; that combo hasn't let me down yet. I guess old habits die hard.

Adam Moore3 said:Using a power supply from $50 in a build worth $1667? Seriously? As far as shopping goes, you can just order from Newegg or some other online retailer. They offer free shipping and pack everything so well you won't even need to bother going to HGspot or god forbid Links...

It’s not an issue with web shops; it’s just that those are the prices from the HGspot online store (in-store prices are higher 😉). It's about service, and the physical store is close to me.

Regarding the power supply, feel free to make a suggestion. The case is listed above.

Hey everyone, I'm planning on buying a new PC. My budget is $1667 (not a cent more than that).😁

Since there aren't many local tech shops in ST, my options are pretty much limited to Links and HGspot.
So, here is what I've put together at HGspot.

-Processor Intel Core i5-4590, Haswell, 3300 MHz, LGA 1150

$566

-Graphics Card GIGABYTE Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti OC, 2 GB DDR5, GV-N75TOC-2GI

$433

-Motherboard Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H, LGA 1150

$181

-Hard Drive 1 TB, WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Blue WD10EZEX, 3.5" , 7200 rpm, SATA III

$168

-Memory KINGSTON 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3, 1600 MHz HyperX Fury, DIMM

$224

-Power Supply AQPROX APP500PS, 500W

$50

So, the total comes to $1623.

Thoughts, recommendations...🤔
