Hey everyone, I'm planning on putting together a new PC with a budget of around $1667. I'm leaning towards an AMD platform—I wouldn't want anything less than an AMD FX-6300, paired with 8GB of 1600MHz RAM and a Radeon R9 280 graphics card. My main question is about where to buy the parts... since I'll be ordering through an online retailer and paying with a credit card, does anyone have recommendations on where I can get the best deal?

Maybe cash?
Since you're paying by card, expect the price to jump 7-10%. If you want the most bang for your buck with that budget, here's what I'd suggest:
1 x Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P, AM3+, AMD 970 SB950, 4x DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866
1 x AMD FX-6300 processor 3.5GHz,14MB,95W,AM3+, FD6300WMHK
1 x Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB, 7200rpm, SATA 6 Gb/s, 32MB
1 x DDR3 4GB (1x4GB) Kingmax, 1600MHz, FLGF
1 x Fortron 500W, Hyper, PPA5005003, 12cm fan
1 x SCYTHE Katana 3 SCKTN-3000A White Box, 754/939/AM2/AM2+/AM3
1 x XFX R9-270A, R9-270A-CDFC, double Dissipation edition 925 m boost 1 x
1 x Zalman Z1 mid tower case. 199(W)x432(H)x457(D)mm. ATX standard

$1493

1 x Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P, AM3+, AMD 970 SB950, 4x DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866
1 x AMD FX-6300 processor 3.5GHz,14MB,95W,AM3+, FD6300WMHK
1 x Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB, 7200rpm, SATA 6 Gb/s, 32MB
2 x DDR3 4GB (1x4GB) Kingmax, 1600MHz, FLGF

1 x XFX R9-280A-TDFD, double Dissipation edition 925 m boost 1 x Radeon R9 280

$1698or this way

With that 10% markup from the card, you'd end up at $1833.

I have one AMD FX-6100 processor available for sale. This is the boxed version, featuring a clock speed of 3.3 GHz with a boost up to 3.9 GHz, a 14MB cache, and a 95W TDP on the AM3+ socket.
I have one 8GB stick of Crucial DDR3 RAM running at 1600 MHz (PC3-12800) with a CL11 latency.
I have one Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P motherboard available, featuring the AM3+ socket.
I have one LC-CC-95 CPU cooler available, compatible with both Intel and AMD systems. It features a 90mm fan.
I have one Toshiba DT01ACA050 1TB hard drive available, running at 7200rpm with 32MB cache.
I have one LG GH24NSC0 SATA optical drive available in bulk black. It's a solid little unit if you're looking to add some disc functionality back to your setup.
I've picked up one Zalman Z1 unit in black, featuring USB 3.0 connectivity and dual 120mm fans.
1 x Fortron Hyper 500W, 80+
I currently have one Gigabyte Radeon R9 270 on hand, featuring 2048MB of GDDR5 memory.

You can pay with a Diners card and spread the cost over up to 12 monthly installments. Plus, they'll even handle the assembly and deliver everything right to your doorstep for free.

Cheaper build, worse specs than what I saw at Best Buy.

It's only about six months old and was bought from Micro Center. I doubt you'll find anything better than this.

The CPU might be slightly less powerful, but you get twice the RAM. I don't see where else this falls short. I've put together one more alternative so the buyer can make their own choice.

Also, he mentioned wanting to buy through an online shop, and as far as I know, Micro Center doesn't handle online payments for these types of builds. So, I just tailored this option better to fit his actual needs.

weaker CPU, the same amount of RAM, and a worse GPU. In my $500 build, I've even got an R9 280 included.☕

Are you really trying to compare my card pricing against your cash price? Look, you haven't been around this long; it’s obvious they aren't going to be identical. If you're looking at $5,094 in cash and I'm quoting $5,150 on a card, how does it even make sense to put those two side-by-side?

Thanks for the suggestions, but I actually found a much better CPU and GPU combo for that same budget near $1667. It felt like you guys were throwing in stuff I don't really need, like that $100 case, which just isn't a priority for me right now...

LOL

That motherboard won't work with that CPU, and you're planning to throw in a $50 power supply? Hilarious.

It isn't going to work in theory 😁 let alone in reality. 👏👏

Oops, my bad, I totally messed up the input😁

$4,500 without the hard drive. I actually found a new one for $117 with a warranty on eBay 🙂

What kind of power supply would you recommend? Maybe something around $117 if possible, just to make sure everything stays stable?

edit: http://www.newegg.com/p/power-supplies... Would this be enough?*

I was talking nonsense just like this a few months ago myself. Listen to what people are telling you and just get a better power supply.

1 x Intel Core i7-3770K Processor 3.5GHz, 14MB, 95W, LGA 1155
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H, LGA 1155, Intel Z77, 4x DDR3 2400(O.C.)/2133
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 780, Double Dissipation Edition, 933M
1 x DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) Kingston, Corsair Vengeance, 1866MHz, CL10
1 x HDD Seagate 1TB, Serial ATA III, 7200 rpm, ST1000DM003
1 x Power Supply EVGA 600W, Hyper, PPA6003302, 12cm fan
1 x Zalman Z3 mid tower case. 192(W)x465(H)x430(D)mm. ATX standard
1 x ZALMAN CNPS 5X Performa, socket 775/1155/1156/AM2/AM2/AM3

$1737

This could work too. You’d lose two years on the warranty, but maybe it's better than Hyper, $5.00 and cheaper.

Nice job putting that list together... I guess.

1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5Ghz (4.1GHz) box
1 x Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600 Mhz (PC3-12800) CL11
1 x GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P, AM3+
1 x Fortron Hyper 500W, 80+
1 x CPU Cooler LC-CC-95, Intel/AMD, 90mm
1 x MS PHOENIX case without PSU
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3Gb GDDR5 Dual-X with boost
Total: $1490

Future IT

- $13 pay a bit more and you get 8gb of RAM
- Best Buy motherboard
- better power supply, that Naviatec one would probably pop, it's maybe 300w at most
- a decent cooler because the stock ones are loud and pretty inefficient
- a slightly better case

Hey there!

I'm looking for a gaming rig with a budget of max $1667. My only dealbreakers are that it has to be from IBM, I need to be able to pay in cash, and I want a case that actually looks decent—not just some basic junk. Something more like this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/product_info.php?c...oducts_id=9240

Thanks in advance. 🙂

1 x Intel Core i7-2600K 3.5GHz, 14MB, 95W, LGA 1155
1 x ASUS M5A97 R2.0, AM3, AM3+, chipset, 5200 MHz BUS, DDR3
2 x 4GB DDR3 Kingmax 1600MHz sticks
1 x Cooler Master Hyper T4
1 x Seagate 1TB HDD, SATA III, 7200 rpm
1 x Zalman Z3 Mid Tower Case (Standard ATX)
1 x EVGA 500 W Power Supply, Hyper series, 12cm fan
1 x NVIDIA GTX 1060, Double Dissipation Edition
$1640

If you're looking for a real powerhouse, you could always go even higher $40 on the specs. In that scenario, you might want to scale back slightly on the motherboard or the cooler to balance things out.
