This is my favorite Gus van Sant film. Stylistically, it reminds me quite a bit of Béla Tarr, who uses those long takes and sequences to capture the almost ritualistic nature of violence...
Aside from a somewhat silly ending that feels more suited to a standard action flick, the film is superb—truly one of the best releases this year.
