Look, it’s simple: you either pay the fine or you do the community service. You don't get hit twice. How exactly do you think that works?

I just got a court summons giving me the choice between community service or jail time. Is there any way to dodge this if I just show up to court with a receipt showing I already paid the fine?

Yeah, absolutely. At the end of the day, those guys care way more about the cash hitting their accounts than they do about you doing community service for the public good...

if they don't let it slide, just ask them about setting up a payment plan...

and thank God, it looks like we've already covered pretty much every single option in this thread 🙂

Can someone please give me the full rundown on what’s actually going on here? This whole thing about the college transcripts doesn't seem to have anything to do with misdemeanor charges... I mean, what kind of penalty are we even talking about? wtf...

I really need some advice here, please

Things have gotten pretty bad for me lately... (link)

How does someone even go about making $2,000? Like, what’s the daily rate at a jailhouse work program?

And is there any way I can set that money aside until I finally wrap up my degree? 🙂

dude, check that link again 🙂 because whatever it's pointing to doesn't make any sense at all...

and that’s what I’m getting at... you can’t really appeal their decision once it’s final...

John Thompson51 said:The court in Chicago sent the decision over to my local county police station—and from what I can gather by looking at the envelope, they forwarded it to me through the police department. To make matters even stranger, I noticed that the payment slips were filled out in ballpoint pen???

Wait, which court was it? And who did you actually file the complaint against?... 😁

John Thompson51 said:I just noticed something else—nowhere in this decision does it state a deadline for when the payment is due, nor does it mention my right to appeal. Does that lack of information carry any weight in a situation like this?

Who sent you the notice?

They’ll probably just mail it right to your house, so don't even sweat it 😁

The court handling everything is gonna be the one in whatever city you actually pulled that stunt in...

As for those complaints, yeah, if they move forward with them, you're probably looking at having to show up to court in person. It might actually be a good idea to scroll through this thread for a bit, since people have been talking about how the whole process works for a while now...

I think the fine for ignoring a traffic sign is around $167, if I remember correctly...

Look, I’m trying to give some actual advice here, but everyone’s just cluttering up the thread with pointless spam... honestly, thanks, but I think we've had enough 🙂
Honestly, there’s really no point in trying to overanalyze this or act like we need more input, because the deal is already done...

you might not trust a lawyer, but you’ll definitely end up trusting the folks on this forum 😁 😁

I’m not deleting Temu, but I’m asking everyone to please stop replying to the latest inquiry posted , because any response is just going to be deleted.

Man, sorry, but 😁Zuckerberg
really took it too far...

Look, you don't actually mail the appeal through the post office; you have to file it directly with the municipal court, which is clearly laid out in the legal remedies instructions they give you.
Everything else has already been picked apart and discussed down to the smallest detail right here on this thread, so maybe just give it a quick read... 🙂

I honestly don't know how people can stay so calm when things start going sideways like this, especially with everything happening lately... It feels like every time you turn around, there’s some new crisis or another layer to the mess that we didn't see coming, and I just sit here wondering if anyone actually has a handle on the situation, because from where I'm standing, it looks pretty shaky... I've been thinking about it for hours, just staring at the news and trying to make sense of the chaos, but it's like trying to solve a puzzle where the pieces keep changing shape while you're holding them... It's heavy, man, it really is... kaže:
If everything is supposedly totally irrelevant and the whole process is exactly the same for everyone—which, honestly, I have my doubts about... then why on earth are they even making us sign anything in the first place...

She didn't mean that it doesn't matter at all, she just meant the process is exactly the same... I mean, signing something basically means you're giving your word and agreeing to everything written above it, whereas if you don't sign, you're essentially saying you don't accept it...

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been sitting here thinking about how much things have changed lately, and honestly, it feels like everything is just moving at a million miles an hour... it’s kind of wild if you really stop to look at it, especially with how everyone seems to be reacting to the news these days... it’s like we’re all just trying to find our footing while the ground keeps shifting under us, you know? I was reading through some stuff earlier and it just hit me how much we take for granted until things actually start getting messy... anyway, I’m just rambling now, but I wanted to get your thoughts on where things are heading because it feels like we're standing on the edge of something huge... kaže:
This whole thing feels a little off to me... It’s like the appeal is basically arguing that the district court completely dropped the ball, and now they’re saying the judge should just pick up where they left off and deal with the defendant all over again...

That's just not how it works... the appeal is actually based on the fact that you disagree with the judge's ruling, not that the court messed up its procedure or failed to do its job correctly... that part is for a higher court to decide later on down the line...

Every once in a while, you run into someone with these massive, sweeping theories about how the police are out here trampling over everyone's civil rights... I mean, honestly, how can they not ☕

and you don't even need to know, that's why I'm telling you 😉

her thread is locked, and besides, this is the right spot to ask about misdemeanors anyway...

mr. ex, she’s already got a whole thread dedicated to that topic, so there’s really no need to go over it all again here...

Alright, I think we’ve pretty much covered the whole spider thing...
Steven Reed, if you’ve got questions about those traffic safety laws, there’s actually a specific thread for all that, so maybe just keep it over there...

Steven Reed said:I went ahead and paid the fine—but only because the notice explicitly stated that filing an appeal wouldn't stop the collection process. I also took a look at Articles 84, 85, and 86 of the traffic safety law, and I ended up contesting it on the grounds that the entire thing was illegal—specifically, that there was absolutely no legal basis for moving my vehicle in the first place.🤷

If you already paid the fine, then filing that appeal was pretty much a waste of time...
