2009 Car Reveal in Formula 1 ·
stormybadger8 said:Every ad counts as a business expense, right? So that basically makes it a tax break.☕

And besides, when one company gives another a huge kickback for advertising? There’s always that tiny chance the director gets a little blue envelope under the table, right? 😬

People claim it’s all just a bunch of Italian drivers, right? Even back in the early 90s, the whole Formula 1 scene operated on that exact same vibe. Only difference was, the director could end up pocketing like 80% of the total cash in a blue envelope. Crazy, huh?

Anyway, if you're looking to trim those profits just to dodge some taxes, there are way more subtle and cheaper ways to go about it. I don't know much about them myself, maybe something like a sole proprietorship? 😁 Sponsorship? It’s basically just a clever way for the owner to drain the company account and slide that cash right back into their own pocket via a blue envelope. You know how it goes, right?

Not that we’re totally off-topic, but we’re definitely in the wrong subforum. Shouldn't we be over in Finance or Crime?☕

Kevin Long20 said:I honestly have no clue why Philip Morris is pushing this sponsorship. The last time anyone saw their branding was over in China back in 2007. And man, this barcode thing? It looks absolutely terrible.

Yeah, and even if they put some random junk there that looks like a barcode, we'd all know it's just Marlboro anyway.

After 25 years of seeing Marlboro all over Ferraris, people just link Ferrari with Marlboro regardless of what’s actually painted on the car. So it's pure marketing, mistybear87, not just about the money.😉

Anyway, the car definitely looks better than that hideous hybrid Sauber from testing.
SilentDriver said:At least some folks have the i5 or i6 models. If they're better than my setup, then hey, that's awesome. Glad there's still hope.

This isn't F1, it's more like GPL, so you can't really make a direct comparison. image
Plus, there aren't any driving assists here to speed things up for you.
No biggie, just wanted to show you that there are definitely people out there who can maintain a steady pace over long stretches. 🙂

James Roberts87 said:Fuel doesn't even matter that much, right? His aero just won't let anyone get close enough in the corners anyway. He’s stuck like that whether the tank is full or empty.
And honestly, isn't it just those pit stops and refueling that keeps them from just following each other in a single file line for the whole race?

The big difference back then? Those 80s cars were constantly shifting weight mid-race as the fuel tanks drained out. Crazy, right?
So, the big call was basically whether to go with a setup that favors a heavier car for a killer start, or just play it safe? It’s always such a gamble. You've got some drivers hitting their stride right at the finish line while others just fall off, right?
Tire wear? Totally depends on how you set up the car and how you drive, right?
Even when the cars were neck and neck, overtaking was still such a grind, right? But with these factors in play, there were way more openings to make a move—plus, having no mandatory pit stops just gave everyone more reason to go for it.
Plus, you could end up forcing someone to push way harder than they actually wanted to, right? Then you just burn through those tires way too early.

Lauda was always such a beast at making moves from behind in the second half of a race, wasn't he? Same goes for Prost later on.
Senna crushed so many legendary races back in the day, just totally shutting down any fast cars trying to catch him. Is that even possible anymore? Not a chance.
Could Alessi pull off a one-stop strategy? He’s been looking so fast lately, he might just skip the pit stop entirely while everyone else is swapping tires. Who knows?

What did people who went before think? Also, any chance of grabbing an autograph or a quick photo with the drivers after the race? I'm specifically looking for Michael Schumacher.

Thanks in advance!

I actually scored an autograph from Alex Zanardi back in '94 at the Canadian Grand Prix right in the pits after the race. These days? Forget about it. No way you're getting into the pits or the paddock. Your best bet for an autograph is probably hanging out near the credentialed entrance on Thursday afternoon—that's where the drivers pass through.

Good standing spots are getting harder to find since they're turning everything into grandstands, so who knows if there's anything left. Best corner to watch? Probably Turn 4 near the end of the lap. It's a fast right-hander, just make sure you're positioned so you can see them exiting the turn.
