Brenda Cook4 said:The teachings of the Catholic Church can certainly be presented—and indeed, they are presented all the time—but because it sits at the very heart of Christianity, we’re dealing with a massive web of different denominations, each with its own right to offer a perspective on any given question.

The user's question regarding whether Christians view the Catholic Church as a work of God or a work of Satan is also a perfectly valid inquiry. Given what I mentioned about the sheer variety of denominations, a significant number of them hold a deeply critical view toward the Catholic Church; after all, the Protestant Reformation itself essentially began as a "protest" against the doctrine, the rituals, and the ecclesiastical structure of the Catholic Church.

This naturally brings us to the views of the Christian forum member and their specific response, which rejects the Trinity of God because, quite frankly, that is how groups like Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Oneness Pentecostals, and Unitarians approach things, even though the Trinity remains the central dogma for the vast majority of Christians. It is much like the debate over the Virgin Mary's virginity; there is a distinct difference in perspective between those who focus on the virginal conception (such as Anglicans, Methodists, Lutherans, or Baptists) versus the belief in her perpetual virginity, as held by Catholics.

As for the suggestion of a separate top topic for Catholicism, that has already been raised before. My personal take is that Religion should perhaps have its own dedicated PDF file where existing top topics could be migrated—since we currently have nearly half a page taken up by top topics—allowing for individual threads to be opened for each denomination if someone desires. These wouldn't be "top topics" anymore, which feels a bit contrary to the spirit of this forum, where everyone should be able to comment and write freely, provided it stays on subject.

However, a top topic specifically for Catholicism could certainly be created, provided the administration approves.

I agree that the question is legitimate, considering the current climate; anyone has the right to believe that such an institution might be a tool of Satan. But the dilemma for me is, as a Catholic, what am I supposed to do in a top topic where someone can legitimately voice those kinds of sentiments? You simply don't see that kind of friction occurring in our other top topics.

And while I find myself in agreement with the other points mentioned, I suppose my agreement is somewhat secondary to the main issue. 😁

That is all I have to say on the matter; I don't want to drag this discussion out indefinitely, as I fear the core point and the essence of the story will eventually get diluted, and I feel I have expressed everything I intended to say quite clearly.

Take care, everyone. 😁

I honestly don't even know where to begin when it comes to reporting something like this... I mean, what do you do when someone claims to be a Christian, yet simultaneously insists that some sort of extraterrestrial higher power is actually pulling all the strings behind everything, acting as if that's perfectly valid just because they identify as a believer? It feels like such a strange contradiction. Should I even start by asking them a fundamental question—you know, just to get some clarity—like, "Before we go any further, do you actually believe in the Holy Trinity?" 😁

If you look at this page from this point onward, it becomes increasingly apparent that it is virtually impossible to accurately represent the teachings of the Catholic Church here.

Take this, for instance:

It doesn't happen in the threads about different faiths, nor does it happen in the discussions regarding Islam... and I won't even get started on the atheist threads.

Yet, if we look at the actual rules laid out in the site guidelines:
Top-level threads regarding specific world religions are intended to be spaces where followers of those faiths can discuss their beliefs in a civilized manner and answer questions from others... As such, they are specifically protected from provocation, proselytizing, arguments, and similar behavior. Please make an extra effort to remain courteous in these areas.>

Which, quite frankly, is an impossibility in practice.

It strikes me as rather incredible that, despite having such a massive Catholic population in the United States, the Hinduism thread—with its own specific doctrines—is treated with more protection as a top-tier topic than the one dedicated to Catholicism.
The system just doesn't work that way because it’s all too easy for someone to claim they are a Christian and then immediately pivot to talking about reincarnation, aliens, the truth of the Quran, or claiming that the Holy Spirit isn't God, or that Mary isn't the Virgin Mary. None of that actually pertains to Christianity; those are just tiny fringe groups consisting of maybe a handful of people.
Now, if we were discussing Catholics and Orthodox Christians—who both have significant numbers in this region, though their differences could be counted on one hand since their core tenets are so similar—there wouldn't be much of an issue. But how are we supposed to manage when any random agitator can jump in and ask if the Catholic Church is a satanic institution, or claim they are a Christian while insisting that Christ is not God?

When you compare all the religions in the world, I truly believe the Catholic Church possesses one of the most clearly defined and well-structured sets of doctrines—perhaps even the most straightforward in terms of official teaching—not to mention the sheer number of Catholics here in America. I simply cannot see a single compelling reason why it should be impossible to present these truths in an undisturbed, respectful manner.

I am not looking for an open debate on this subject, as there has already been more than enough discussion on the matter in many other places.
This post could be locked immediately, but I would urge the moderators to give this some serious thought.

Best regards, Mark Foster

P.S. Just a rhetorical question: how many Hindus are there in the United States? 🤣
Why doesn't God share His knowledge? in Religion ·
Well, I believe healing can still take place even after His passing. You really ought to spend some time reading through the Bible... specifically the Epistles and things of that nature.
It’s often said that the amount of healing you receive is directly tied to the depth of your faith... what else can one truly say about such a thing? 🙂
After all, why would God choose to perform a healing specifically for you?

Nicole James said:Look, you didn't get a strike just because you spoke up—it happened after you were warned to wait, ignored that warning, had your post removed without any penalty, and then only brought it back once you complied.

The thread was being totally hijacked to nitpick the moderators and how this whole forum is run, so it was completely justified to lock it down until we can figure out a better way to handle it. Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with how Chris Peterson53 handled things.

I received the strike because I was simply asking for clarification on why my post was being labeled as spam.
I honestly can't wrap my head around why my post needed to be deleted and penalized in the first place—especially since the moderator didn't even issue a sanction initially—while that same moderator was busy airing his own personal opinions in his post instead of just telling me to wait for the higher-ups to step in... and to be clear, my response wasn't an attempt to solve anything, it was merely a critique of those specific statements.
Does a moderator really have the authority to share personal musings that have nothing to do with their actual duties, and then just wipe away a reply simply because it doesn't suit them?

But whatever, it's fine.

If one person starts commenting on how the moderators are doing their jobs within a thread, then sure, that post can be deleted or edited to bring the discussion back to its intended purpose.

The thread was locked because the moderator seems to think this PDF is designed specifically to spark debates about religions—which isn't even the issue here... the topic is actually about interfaith dialogue and how to achieve it, whether that happens on an online forum or out in the real world.

Anyway—I’m requesting that the thread be unlocked so we can have a normal conversation, and my personal request to the moderator is that he tries to find some sort of equilibrium, something that allows him to resist the sudden waves of emotion that seem to be driving his decisions. Of course, that’s just my impression, and it might not reflect the absolute reality of the situation, but it feels like one possible explanation for why things are behaving this way.

Thanks to the super-moderator for such a predictable reaction.

Chris Peterson53 said:Just like I said here

Just sit tight and wait for the head moderator's ruling!

But clearly, you don't have an ounce of patience for that, do you?

So, despite having your initial post scrubbed,
-you were warned with a note to stop spamming
(meaning: quit lecturing me about "moderator bias" or how "necessary" this topic is),
because until there's an official decision, there is absolutely nothing left for us to debate—whether my choice to lock the thread was right or wrong.
-then, after your post was deleted without even a strike,
you go ahead and repost the exact content that was removed, adding even more commentary on top? That is textbook trolling.
And that’s exactly why you got a strike!

It feels like we’re circling back to the same point again, much like a record player stuck in a groove, repeating the exact same melody without ever moving the needle forward.
I really appreciate you clearing that up, though I have to say, my intention from the very start was to reach out to Ford for some actual intervention. It wasn't my goal to just get another canned response from the same moderator, especially when I'm being prevented from even offering a rebuttal through constant deletions and those warning strikes.
If you truly feel the same way I do about this whole situation, then we might as well just call it what it is—either we sit tight and wait for the dust to settle until the actual results are in, or we simply stop posting altogether until there’s something real to talk about. It feels a bit counterproductive to keep spinning our wheels here when we're all just waiting on the same outcome, doesn't it? It feels somewhat paradoxical, doesn't it? To express a heartfelt opinion, to lay one's thoughts out on the table with total sincerity, only to have the door slammed shut before anyone can even offer a rebuttal. It’s a bit like standing in the middle of a crowded room in downtown Chicago, shouting your truth to the heavens, and then having someone suddenly cover your mouth just as you're waiting for the echo to return. There is a certain imbalance in that kind of interaction—an intellectual one-way street that leaves very little room for the actual exchange of ideas, which is, after all, the very foundation of any meaningful conversation.Since the topic itself is up for debate, I honestly don't see any spam or trolling in my own contribution, so I feel like I’ve earned the right to have a clear explanation of why I don't believe my post falls under those categories.

I am sincerely asking that we hold off and wait for a decision from the higher-ups instead of continuing this cycle of explanations. To be perfectly honest, I haven't found any of the justifications provided to be remotely satisfying—not in your closing statement regarding my thread, nor in the response where you’ve restricted my ability to reply, and certainly not in this current exchange. It feels as though my original intention, which was simply to request an official intervention, has been completely reframed by you as if you were the one who initiated the whole situation, effectively twisting my words to make it seem like I was the one provoking these manufactured infractions.
It’s truly a shame.

This is primarily regarding the closure of a thread:

Based on an explanation that feels quite unfounded,

When I requested a review from the supermoderator, the moderator responded to my grievance— ...stating that while she can't be prohibited from doing so, one should certainly be allowed to reply to her response. However, for some inexplicable reason, my initial reply was flagged as spam (?!) and my second attempt, where I simply asked why it was being labeled as such, resulted in an unnecessary accumulation of penalty points. It seems the moderator either finds it problematic to explain the reasoning behind the "spam" label or perhaps simply doesn't know how to justify it—but I won't get bogged down in debating which of those two it might be. My posts have been deleted, and the moderator even edited her own post to include further snide remarks. I trust you can see the deleted content; if not, I am more than happy to send over screenshots of the posts.

The rules in the complaint book allow for a rebuttal to a moderator's decision— . If the moderator felt that we should wait for a senior admin, she ought to have stated that clearly rather than injecting personal opinions into the matter, all while simultaneously barring me from responding to those very statements. One cannot act as judge, jury, and executioner all at once when their own conduct is being called into question. In my view, this constitutes an overreach of authority.

Furthermore, her actions a few posts up in the same thread run contrary to the complaint book; she permitted casual chatting among users, even though the rules of that specific thread strictly forbid it or make it punishable. Yet, according to her own words, she allows for the "public clarification of reputation points"—which contradicts the rules, yet provides a convenient loophole for certain users, whereas toward me, she acts with extreme severity.

I have already provided my reasoning for why the thread shouldn't have been locked. I truly believe the discussion is necessary because it seems no one is paying attention to the need for actual dialogue; instead, almost every topic is just saturated with hostility and aggression.

It is perfectly clear that the site administrator will likely side with a member of their own staff... and please understand, I am not seeking a public apology nor am I looking to stage a public lynching of the moderator. Rather, I am asking that the moderator be privately guided to exercise her authority within reasonable bounds—bounds that shouldn't cross the line of good taste or be used to promote her own subjective ideals.

It is also obvious that the administrator holds absolute power here; it’s clear that supermoderators wield the most significant influence, and it’s understood that a moderator on a specific sub-forum will never be overruled unless there is a severe violation of the core community guidelines. But still, as a user, I maintain the right to express myself, to start discussions, and to communicate with others—rights which have been curtailed and restricted through this process. After all, a forum exists for its users, not to serve as a playground where moderators can simply exert dominance.

I would like to thank whoever takes the time to actually review the entirety of this situation.
If there are any follow-up questions, I remain entirely at your disposal.

Best regards,
