How did you all get started? in Music ·
Kyle Jackson54 said:The Beatles (1985-1991) -> Bruce Springsteen, The Doors, Led Zeppelin (1993-1995) -> Coldplay, Laufer, Green Day (1995-1997)

Then I realized music actually exists outside of what's playing on the radio.

So what, am I supposed to feel embarrassed now?

Maybe a little.

There's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Okay, maybe a tiny bit of Coldplay and Laufer 🙂.

It’s becoming pretty clear how much my taste has shifted since I first started listening to music:

Nirvana -> Nine Inch Nails -> everything else.

some philosopher said this once, though I can't recall which one. Not my own thought.😉

Whoever said that, if they weren't talking strictly about practical or pragmatic matters, they haven't a clue. If they were, then they aren't even discussing the concept of freedom anymore—just some utilitarian, crippled version of it.
Linda Kim30 said:Simply put, freedom is just having the option to choose.

Anyway, let's move past the naive assumptions and get into it:

1. Is freedom an infinite range of choices, or is it finite?
2. If it’s finite, what actually dictates which options are on the table and which aren't?
Brandon Kim96 said:I don't see the downside. Why stay shackled when you can just be free? ☕

What does freedom actually mean, though? (I’m being serious here. I want a real answer).
deleted post and a little note to self: drink less.
redlynx11 said:Look, placidlynx23, Mozart had more kids than you ever will and slept with way more women.

Real classy. Exactly the kind of thing I’d expect from someone obsessed with the classics. Just another frustrated wannabe aristocrat. 😛

BTW. Unless someone means "gay" in the sense of being lighthearted and joyful, to me it implies a certain vibe or presence—it isn't about sexual orientation. If we were talking about orientation, that would be a whole different, much worse conversation. 😉
🤣😂

redlynx11, you're doing fine 👍

Anyway, like Kyle Jackson54 pointed out so elegantly, the word gay carries two distinct meanings, and I've been using it in both senses. So the real question is: is Mozart gay because he's gay, or is he gay because he's gay? 😕

P. S. redlynx11 - psychopaths are psychopaths because classical music drove them insane. GAME OVER.
AAAhhhh, the glory of the ninth 😎
1. Any structure harboring elements of chaos is fundamentally broken, standing against both God and the State
2. And what does one even mean by "genius"?
3. You haven't actually proven that yet

.
Mozart’s sheer flamboyance has been driving people insane for generations. It’s just a plain fact.

And like I said, those anarchic ideas of his were enough to rattle even Beethoven.

P.S. That decadence and anarchy is baked right into the musical structure itself—it's fundamentally "incorrect." Looking at it now, postmodernism basically started with Mozart; most people just didn't catch on (which is probably for the best, otherwise they would have lost their minds).

By the way, Mireille, you didn't actually say anything to disprove my original point.
Linda Kim30 said:What Youth movement?! Most kids today are just obsessed with populist politics...
Not worth my breath. I'm staying out of this.

Mozart was essentially the catalyst for Beethoven's descent into madness. Even as a kid, he planted those morbid, anarchic notions about broken musical structures right in his head. Mozart was a corruptor of the Youth movement, plain and simple—this case proves it. Young people need structure and stability in their lives, not pure anarchy.
Charles Manson isn't gay, he's just a total nerd.

And the second part is facts. It's all just those irritating Hannibal Lecter spikes.
coastalhawk13 said:just head over to the synth thread if you want to see how gay it really is🥳

🤣

But honestly, what's actually more gay:

I guess I'm undecided on this one, so I'll let the music make the call. And the answer is...

...
...

...

MOZART!

P.S. yeah, his Requiem is solid, no lie.
Let him run it back, I guess. We neurodivergent types tend to gravitate toward that kind of repetition, but honestly? It’s just too much. That forced enthusiasm... it’s like he’s about to spontaneously combust from pure joy. It’s grating. Just makes my skin crawl and keeps me on edge.
Mozart's just slimy.
feraltrucker5 said:Besides, the screenwriters are totally clueless. Real psychopaths would be listening to Darkthrone, Mayhem, or a Burzum Quote 🙂 🙂

Burzum Mda, I'm talking about those 13-year-old psychopaths who just wait for the slightest opening to pull down the pants of their crush at school because she's wearing baggy jeans.
David Sullivan4 said:I always figured "heavy heavy" was just a descriptor—you know, like, the actual heavy stuff like thrash, death, black metal, and all that.

That’s a fair question you're asking there. Is "heavy heavy" its own distinct genre, or is heavy metal just inherently powerful by nature? The absolute peak of it. Maybe Chronos can clear this up for us. Please?
gentlepuma20 said:placidlynx23, since you mentioned it, 😍

there was that one with the sandwiches or cooking, something like that—pretty sure that was my favorite.

For me, nothing beats those ones where they’re out there with rakes and pitchforks in some mindless, white-picket-fence American suburb, and it just says "black metal is war!" right at the top. Nargaroth! \m/ That contrast between the "idyllic," dull, totally safe suburbs and guys like them carrying farm tools like some kind of peasant revolt... haha, it's perfect.
Heavy Metal Kings

[Ozzy Osbourne, Manowar Manowar living on The Road]

Manowar Manowar living on the road
When we're in town speakers explode
We don't attract wimps 'cause we're too loud
Just true metal people that's Manowar's crowd

They wanna keep us down
But they can't last
When we get up we're gonna kick your ass
Gonna keep on burnin'
We always will
Other bands play Manowar kill
Other bands play Manowar kill

We like it hard, we like it fast
We got the biggest amps, man they blast
True metal people wanna rock not pose
Wearin' jeans and leather, not cracker jack clothes

They wanna keep us down
But they can't last
When we get up we're gonna kick your ass
Gonna keep on burnin'
We always will
Other bands play Manowar kill
Other bands play Manowar kill

We're the kings of metal comin' to town
When we light up, have the roof nailed down
Don't try to tell us that we're too loud
'Cause there ain't no way that we'll ever turn down

They wanna keep us down
But they can't last
When we get up we're gonna kick your ass
Gonna keep on burnin'
We always will
other bands play Manowar kill
