No—they never did. Different people post in different threads, using different tones. On some threads, we let things slide just to keep the momentum going for the majority. The NFL thread went completely off the rails because nobody knew when to pull back.

I won't get into specific examples since I don't read everything—which means I don't moderate every single thread. Each moderator decides their own threshold for what stays and what goes. On the NFL thread, I decided to cut it off.

Everyone loses their cool occasionally—the point of those massive penalties is to part ways with the ones who can't control themselves. Besides, a few days away from the site doesn't hurt anyone.
