I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why we are so obsessed with the "vigilante" archetype in modern television. It feels like every few years, a new series drops that focuses on someone stepping outside the law to settle scores that the justice system just can't touch. There's something deeply unsettling about watching a character do something objectively horrific, yet finding yourself nodding along because the people they are targeting are so fundamentally detestable.
It’s a weird psychological tightrope for a writer to walk. If the protagonist is too "good," the show feels predictable and boring. But if they go too far, you lose that connection where you actually care about their struggle. I remember watching a show a few years back where I caught myself actually rooting for a killer, and I felt genuinely grossed out by my own reaction. It makes you wonder if we’re all just looking for a sense of catharsis that real life refuses to give us.
Do you think these shows are actually a reflection of our frustration with the legal system, or are we just suckers for a well-written anti-hero?
I went in for an exam using my insurance referral: they mentioned an atheroma... I was honestly so tense about what that meant, then the doctor just looked at me and said, "It's not an atheroma, it's actually a cylindroma." He gave me a date for the surgery to have the 'cylindroma' removed, and I felt this weird sense of relief, like maybe it’s a minor thing... just some trivial stuff, so I started asking questions... now I'm not feeling so casual about it anymore. Does anyone know anything about this? There isn't much info online. 😢
I'm grabbing some burgers today... I mean, if I stick to the plan for two weeks and then mess up for just one day... it's not that big of a deal, right? I'll just get back to it for another two weeks... I guess it's just about taking two steps forward and one step back... maybe.
I’m constantly squeezing and rubbing them, but I guess I’ve just gotten used to it. After working 10 or 12 hours a day at a computer, it's kind of become my new normal
So, I actually managed to pull my jeans off today without having to unbutton anything or struggle with the zipper 🙂 For the first time in maybe 7 or 8 years, I’m genuinely feeling the progress... I still have a whole bunch of sizes to work through before I hit my goal pair, but it feels good 🙏
I guess I'm becoming more convinced that blood types play a role, and maybe everyone just needs a specific type of diet tailored to them.
People wouldn't believe it, but I don't actually eat much. I was even tracking my intake, and my doctor sent me for thyroid hormone tests once she saw how little I was consuming. They're right at the lower limit, but they're still within range.
All those rules—eating less, eating more frequently, cutting out fats—they just didn't work for me. My biggest success was actually doing a hospital diet for 15 days while riding my bike for 9.3 miles a day. Just 15 days of that bland food and I was down 4 or 5 pounds... though it was incredibly boring.
I've cut out carbs now, but it's not really an issue since I've never had a sweet tooth anyway. I love salads, so pairing them with meat works well, and I haven't gotten tired of it yet.
Fitness is a struggle for me. I can't stand aerobics—having twenty women jumping around trying to follow someone's lead isn't my thing. And honestly, I feel a bit self-conscious going to the gym when everyone else seems to have such perfect bodies. 🙂
Cycling is the only thing that works for me because I can just put on some music and zone out without worrying about anyone else. 🙂
I haven't had any luck with diets before, but honestly, I was so fed up that I finally tried the Atkinson plan. In about ten days, I managed to drop maybe 10 pounds, though I know I have to be careful not to slip up too much. I guess I don't really care if it's the healthiest way to go, I just can't stand looking at myself at this weight anymore.
I can usually tell when it’s about to hit, typically in the evening... so I just take a few pills. If I don't have my meds on hand, I honestly lose it—I'll take anything, in any amount, just to cope
I’ve been struggling with sleep too. I used to have some issues back when I was still in college, but ever since I started working... it's honestly gotten worse. I end up waking up several times during the night, then I just grab a cigarette and turn on the TV... but while I was away on vacation, I slept straight from midnight until about 8:00 or 8:30 in the morning. The conclusion seems pretty obvious
