My mom is battling ovarian cancer
Lately, the pain has been getting pretty intense. We actually went to the ER for pain management and sat down with her oncologist to talk about options, and they prescribed some Dorothy... but honestly, it doesn't seem to be doing much for her. They mentioned they can't even give her patches because she's still undergoing chemo?!
What have you all used, or what has worked for your families? Is there anything we could pick up over the counter or elsewhere?
Voltaren injections used to help her out, but since her platelet count is so low, they aren't recommending any muscle injections right now.

Oh man, Zachary Howard2, I am seriously so sorry... I can't even imagine everything you're having to deal with right now...

We’re honestly just trying our best to stay distracted at home—kind of just hanging out and keeping things light—because we know reality is what it is, and there’s no point in beating our heads against a wall or letting depression take over. It doesn't change anything.
We don't talk about the illness constantly, either... I can tell it really wears my mom out, and the last thing I want to do is exhaust her by looping through the same heavy conversations over and over again.
Looking back, it’s weird... we’ve actually never been closer or had such a great relationship, but then again, we've never been this heartbroken either, since we've never dealt with something this heavy hitting our immediate family before.
I don't know, maybe that's just how it works... you start valuing every single second, and all those little everyday things you used to take for granted suddenly feel so incredibly special and beautiful. It's just tragic that it takes something like this to make you realize it...
Honestly, I find myself putting off coming to this forum for days at a time, because it always just hits me so hard seeing anyone go through these kinds of brutal times.
I truly believe there's a cure out there—I really do—and I think so much could be done to prevent this or at least soften the blow, but we live in such a messed up world where everything is viewed through a dollar sign... it's almost easier to profit from treating chronic illnesses and oncology patients than it is to actually solve the root causes of the problems.
How many times have you seen those headlines on news sites claiming they've found a cure for cancer, only for it to vanish into thin air? Then it's just, "well, they'll be conducting studies for the next hundred years..."
And then there's the whole fact that hemp oil is still treated like it's illegal...

Thanks for the tip... I did some reading on those surgeries he does, and they sound pretty radical—I'm just not sure how she'd handle them, but I'll definitely sit down and talk it through with her.

Man, you always think these kinds of tragedies only happen to other people, but then reality hits and you realize nobody is immune... My mom is only 50, and there isn't even a family history of this.

My mom is battling ovarian cancer with metastases... she’s currently right in the middle of her second round of chemotherapy, so we have a follow-up PET scan coming up soon. I'm thinking it's probably the right time to start looking for a second opinion.

Can anyone recommend a specific doctor? And honestly, if we need to go private, that's totally fine too. We’re originally from the Midwest, but we won't think twice about traveling to Chicago or wherever else she needs to go.

So, for anyone who hasn't stumbled upon them yet—Crystal Castles is this band from the USA, specifically out of New York City, and they're pretty much known for that super experimental vibe they've got going on. It’s basically just Ethan Kath and Alice Glass...
They've put out two albums so far: Crystal Castles (2008) and Crystal Castles ii (2010)
