Where exactly am I missing the mark? If you could provide some more detailed guidance, I’d appreciate it.
And why exactly is that the case?
My process is a bit more convoluted than most—I tend to quote the entire block, strip away the parts that don't serve my point, provide my response, and then repeat the cycle by pasting the full quote again only to prune it once more.
It’s stalling, and we’re nearly at the finish line...
Here is how I’m approaching this (I’ll provide as much detail as possible), From the very beginning....): To quote a post, you simply hit the Quote button to trigger the quoted block; then, highlight the specific section of text you intend to address and click the icon—that little speech bubble symbol—to finalize your comment. Wrap Quote the designated portion of the text should be enclosed within quote tags at both the beginning and the end Wrap QuoteI will append my commentary following that Wrap Quote at the end; I’ll highlight the second section once more; add the icon again; and then follow up with another comment right after the quote.
It seems my formatting has gone completely sideways; everything—from my own commentary down to those smaller nested quotes—is getting swallowed up by one massive, oversized quote block at the end of the post. It makes sense, I suppose, given that my own remarks are nested within the primary quote block... wouldn't you agree? I feel as though I am missing a crucial step in my process, or perhaps there is a fundamental flaw in my approach that remains stubbornly out of reach, yet despite my efforts, the error eludes everyone's perception.🤷 Everyone keeps telling me the same thing: highlight the text, hit the icon, leave a comment. So, I follow the instructions to the letter, but when you look at the actual results... well, the outcome speaks for itself. Something isn't quite clicking, so I would appreciate it if someone with a bit of patience could take a look at my task list and help me pinpoint exactly where my logic is faltering.🙂

My current process is a bit of a cumbersome workaround—I tend to hit Quote, copy the entire block, strip out the parts I don't need, write my response, then paste the whole thing back in just to prune it again, and repeat the cycle indefinitely.
Does that make sense?
I usually handle this through a much more convoluted process—I hit Quote, copy the entire block,
Work for you?
strip out the parts I don't need, write my reply, then paste the whole mess back in, delete the clutter, answer, and repeat the cycle indefinitely...

To be perfectly precise, I never once complained about my credit card debt or a broken arm... (If I did, please provide a quote...😛)
The Reddit policy regarding preserving old threads and avoiding the deletion of past posts is quite sound when applied to "evergreen" discussions from some archived PDF, but taking a specific example—like debating which boots were trending and where to buy them back in 2007 or 2008—really highlights the absurdity of this rule if it's applied without any selectivity. It is rather like insisting we preserve a thread about buying tickets to a Dallas Cowboys game from 2007. 😉)
Fair enough—I’ll admit my previous post might have come across as a bit "stern," but my intentions weren't malicious; I was simply trying to point out ways we could streamline the site.
I don't see the need for such cynical reactions (granitefox16) to a suggestion that should, in theory, benefit all of us. 🤷
The thread on the Vogue forum is titled Where and what kind of boots should I buy for this winter... I click on the first page, only to find 😲—the discussion kicks off with posts from 2007!!!!!!!!!!!
Then it’s just endless pages of comments and questions or answers about where to pick up specific styles... back in 2007, then moving on to 2008.... 🙄
Can someone explain the logic behind keeping posts from two years ago in a thread that explicitly uses "this year" in the title? Especially when there is never a shortage of fresh content every season, and frankly, anything from two years ago is completely out of style by now. Why aren't these threads "cleaned up" to remove old, useless clutter?
Is there any way to expand the selection of default emoticons available right next to the reply box—specifically those tucked away in the sidebar under Advanced Options? Ideally, I’d love to be able to pull certain favorites from the full library directly into that small quick-access window. It would save me the repetitive chore of constantly clicking through the "more" menu just to find my most frequently used icons; essentially, I'm looking for a way to curate a personalized collection of my go-to emojis for more efficient use.
I follow your reasoning and accept it—within the current "framework" of this PDF. My concern lies within that very structure, which I fear remains unchanged despite the rebranding. Unless, of course, the Mad House isn't being dissolved merely by name, but by its very essence (which would be quite the "celebration" for many regular users...😁). It would be much better if they were upfront about that and had the courage to face the consequences of such a decision. ☕

What exactly did you lose by changing the name? Why does it provoke such anger? 🤷
Because a name defines the very essence of the subject matter.
The mad house used to be a PDF where one could express political views with a somewhat "freer" style. Afterward (up until yesterday), it became a space containing just about everything: from that "free" expression to serious posts that weren't strictly about politics, but rather broader socio-political or philosophical topics—posts that usually ended up being flagged by moderators who decided they had no place in Politics.
So, what does this renaming actually signify? Does removing the Mad House name also mean the end of that "free style" space that so many users clearly desire? If that is the case, why not simply state it openly and honestly: there is no more Mad House, and the era of "going mad" is over?
If it isn't—then we will simply continue to see a disorganized mishmash of unrelated posts on that PDF, regardless of what it happens to be called. 🤷
My preference would be three distinct PDFs: 1. Politics 2. On the edge of politics (or Society, or something else entirely...) 3. Mad house (a PDF with slightly more relaxed moderation 😁)
(This shouldn't pose an issue, considering how a brand like Sephora can have separate sections for Eyebrows, Hair, Lashes, and Skin... 🙄 🙂
I am in favor of preserving the mad house as a space for a somewhat more "unfiltered" style of expression—provided we maintain certain reasonable boundaries to prevent total chaos. At the same time, I propose adding a new sub-forum dedicated to topics that aren't strictly about politics in the narrowest sense (you know, the usual suspects like politicians and political parties), but rather focus on broader contemporary social issues. Up until now, these kinds of discussions have been tossed into the mad house, but they don't really belong there if we want to maintain the integrity of what we all believe this forum should be. What should we call this new section? Personally, I thought "Society" would be ideal, but since that category already exists and doesn't quite capture the essence of what I'm proposing, I'm stuck.
I would appreciate an explanation, or perhaps a pointer toward some written criteria, reasoning, or guideline that dictates why certain topics authored by a user under the "Politics" section are subsequently moved into the Mad House.
The reason I ask is that, looking at many threads currently residing in the Mad House, it seems nearly impossible to discern why they aren't located in Politics instead...😕
To be more specific: my own thread, "Žarko Puhovski isn't a patriot!" (which I started yesterday), was also relocated to the Mad House today for reasons that remain opaque to both me and the participants. The opening post is civil and well-reasoned, and the ensuing discussion has been perfectly respectful—there haven't even been any warnings issued yet, and if someone were to slip up, it certainly wouldn't be the first time such an occurrence happened in a "serious" section... so, why the move?
And more broadly speaking: what exactly constitutes the Mad House? Is it truly a subforum where the majority of users choose to direct their own posts, or is it rather a sort of "overflow" area—or perhaps a "dumping ground"—where moderators relocate content they deem "unsuitable" for the primary "Politics" board?
If the Mad House is largely comprised of threads placed there by moderators rather than the users themselves, then there appears to be a fundamental flaw in the concept. It stands to reason that a user, rather than the site administration, should determine which board their post belongs on (unless, of course, they have completely missed the mark regarding the topic's relevance).
Regarding this entire situation, I suspect some confusion arises from the absence of a dedicated "Society" board that might serve as a bridge to Politics. Such a space would be ideal for contemporary social issues that carry a broader political weight without being directly tied to specific political parties or immediate partisan events... My thread about Žarko Puhovski falls precisely into that category, for instance. (The existing Society board feels like something else entirely, and I am not even convinced its current title is particularly apt...)
As I recall, the Mad House used to function somewhat like a "buffer zone" between the acceptable standard of discourse found in Politics and the content that is strictly prohibited. Today, that doesn't seem to be the case. But the issue remains that it is not at all clear how things work now or what the Mad House actually represents in the current landscape. 🤷
I appreciate everyone's input on this.... I am aware of most of these methods, though I’ll admit my approach isn't exactly disciplined—I tend to follow the habits of most people, opting for reactive measures rather than preventative care when things get intense 👎—aiming for whatever provides the quickest and most effective relief possible...
One more thing I wanted to ask: in the specific scenario I described earlier, would there be any benefit to taking Aspirin, as some have suggested? Beyond just managing pain and fever, they possess anti-inflammatory properties—so, is there any actual utility in leveraging that anti-inflammatory effect during the early stages of a cold?
For anyone else reading who might be looking for guidance on this topic: I’ve heard reports from individuals who found significant relief by inhaling Sudafed drops...
Additionally—sage tea is quite effective for these kinds of symptoms, even if the flavor is somewhat unpalatable to me, necessitating a generous amount of honey and lemon to make it drinkable...
I’ve reached that stage where I’m starting to sneeze here and there, my nose is a bit runny, and I find myself sniffing every so often... There isn't any sore throat yet, no heavy congestion, and no fever...
What should be the immediate course of action once these first symptoms surface if I want to confront this "enemy" head-on? I'm hoping to maximize both the effectiveness and the speed of the recovery.
Is the standard protocol of just "bundling up, sipping warm tea with honey, loading up on Vitamin C, and eating chicken soup..." sufficient, or would it be wise to supplement that with some pharmacological intervention? 😉 How exactly should one proceed? (I tend to be one of those people who prefers to let things "run their course," usually waiting until a cough has lingered for two months before finally seeing a doctor...😵... To be honest, it's largely because sitting in those clinic waiting rooms makes me feel less like a human being and more like a number on a clipboard...🤷)
This might be a rather silly question that most people seem to have figured out, but I find myself at a loss, so I would appreciate some guidance... How exactly does one go about switching their assigned Medicare-gynecologist to someone else—specifically, when and what is the process? Additionally, how can I even determine who my current provider is? To be honest, I’ve been seeing private doctors for all my checkups over the last 15 years or so, so I haven't had any actual contact with my Medicare-gynecologist in ages; I’ve actually forgotten his last name entirely (and back then, the relationship was purely a formality, as he never actually examined me...). All I know is that he was based at the Student Health Clinic... I assume he still has me on his roster, but I imagine if I wanted to make a change, I would need to know for certain where I am registered and which doctor is currently listed. How does one uncover that information?
Honestly, what is making this so difficult? It isn't as if this issue just cropped up an hour ago and now you're rushing onto Reddit for some quick fix. Or are you planning to wait until someone finally replies to a thread claiming that it’s nothing special—that it happened to my grandmother once and she just waited it out until it resolved itself without any medical intervention whatsoever?
A little trick for anyone struggling to stay on top of their daily regimen: if you have any pills or supplements that need to be taken once a day—and they don't strictly require being taken later in the afternoon—try taping them directly to your canister of Folgers or your morning coffee mug. It’s my personal ritual, something I reach for the moment my feet hit the floor 🙂 ...it ensures I never miss a dose. If coffee isn't your morning anchor, simply attach them to your toothpaste, your toothbrush, or whatever specific item serves as the non-negotiable starting gun for your daily routine
