What could this be? in Health ·
Honestly, it’s just the heating situation. I’ve got central heating in my apartment 😢 and then at work, we rely on the AC/heating system—so every single year during the winter, my skin just goes to hell. It feels like it's peeling off every hour! What actually helps me is taking evening primrose oil or Vitamin E—I take Omega-3s year-round anyway. You really have to stay hydrated and, more importantly, find the right skincare for the season. I usually head straight to the drugstore and just pick the pharmacist's brain; they'll point you toward the section with CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, or stuff like that, and then they start explaining everything...
Oh, and one more thing—I keep a bottle of Vichy thermal water spray right by my computer at work (you could use CeraVe or whatever, honestly) so I can just give my face a quick mist whenever it starts feeling tight. It works wonders.
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Melissa Moore39 said:I really need a recommendation for a top-tier neurologist in New York City—someone truly the best. I’ve been dealing with some neurological issues in my head for a few years now and I seriously need an expert who is exceptionally good...

Honestly, I’ve had wonderful experiences at Mount Sinai. Now, it really depends on what specific issue you're looking at—like, what exactly are you seeing with a neurologist? If it's vascular stuff, I’d suggest Frederick the Great or Vida Demarin. For demyelination issues, Dr. Negovetić or Dr. Bošnjak are great... but honestly, everyone we saw was incredibly kind and genuinely compassionate.
Sudden weight gain: What's going on? in Health ·
Megan Williams5 said:Nothing for now... they just don't believe me when I tell them how much weight I've gained. Before this, I looked practically anorexic. I was eating normally, but I was just terribly thin. Now, I finally look somewhat normal...
I saw my OBGYN regarding some skin issues—she actually referred me to a dermatologist—and since we were already checking my ovaries, everything seemed fine. But then she suggested I could start taking birth control like Yaz to help clear up my skin and regulate my cycles. Everyone seems to criticize those types of pills, so I'm really hesitant to experiment with them. She thinks it's a good move, but I'm nervous...
She didn't even suggest getting my hormone levels checked. I'm going to demand that my primary doctor runs some tests; I'll insist on it because I have no idea why I'm gaining weight, and I fully intend to find the root cause.
Anyway, if anyone else is dealing with similar issues and managed to get things sorted out, please let me know.

1. Given the skin stuff, it could definitely be PCOS (there's actually a thread about that on here!), and a pelvic ultrasound usually shows things best around day five of your cycle—otherwise, it's hard to see anything—as for the Yaz; those pills can definitely calm down the symptoms, but they can also cause more weight gain, so definitely sleep on it.
2. If you're eating the exact same amount as you were before the weight gain, it could really be a thyroid issue.
In either case—get a referral for an endocrinologist. They'll be the ones to decide which specific hormones need testing and what other labs you should run. At the end of the day, it isn't about how you look, it's about *why* you're gaining weight without any logical explanation. Seriously, ask your doctor what happens if you end up gaining another 30 pounds. 🤷
