You guys have it all wrong; that’s basically a massive loophole in our legal system, and once you fall into it, it’s incredibly hard to climb back out...
I actually ended up in a mess like that myself once, lost my job and totally blanked on checking in with the local Social Security office, so after thirty days my Medicare coverage just lapsed, and then—of course, because life is great—some idiots jumped me and I ended up stuck in a hospital bed, only to get hit with a $44 $0.00... yeah, turns out everything comes with a price tag eventually...
If you end up in the ER, they aren't going to hesitate to mail that bill straight to your front door, so don't go thinking you can dodge it.
