Aetna supplemental insurance in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
swiftbear86 said:I think there might be some confusion here🤔.
How exactly did you end up paying the full retail price for the medication?

With an Aetna supplemental plan that includes a B-list, you should have been covered for $3.25 both the copayments and the out-of-pocket costs for drugs on that specific list. If you paid the full sticker price, it sounds like the drug wasn't listed on either tier.
Take a quick look at your pharmacy receipt to see the exact breakdown. It usually lists the full price first, followed by any adjustments, then the copay, the tax, and finally the amount being billed to Medicare.

No, the B-list used to cover the supplemental cost of $26 that I would have normally dealt with under the A-list. Since the United States unilaterally canceled my supplemental insurance policy, I don't have that coverage anymore. So, I'm stuck paying the full retail price just like anyone else without extra insurance—Medicare just picks up whatever is left. This specific medication usually goes for about $233 when it's just sitting on the shelf in retail stores.

Here’s how I see it—an insurance year is just a 12-month cycle starting from whenever your coverage kicked in. You mentioned your card shows an expiration around the 6th or 7th month of the year, which basically means once that date hits, a brand new policy year starts up. Usually, unless you explicitly ask to cancel, everything just rolls over automatically. If you actually want to end the coverage, you've got to give them a heads-up in writing ahead of time. Honestly, Cisco made things unnecessarily messy this year; at the slightest hint that the government might hike up supplemental rates (which didn't even happen), they started blasting out notices saying prices were going up and they were cutting certain coverage tiers.
I don't get why they'd even send you a bill if you haven't signed off on anything.
My cousin didn't bother sending back his signed notice, and he's still getting billed at the old rate. The big question is whether he’ll run into the same headache next month when he's standing at the pharmacy counter facing a massive out-of-pocket cost for his meds.

It wasn't even a surcharge—my coverage was completely terminated, so I had to pay the full price for my medication. That's exactly why I'm so frustrated! I'm actually planning to take my unexpired card, a printout of their screen, and the receipt to go find out exactly what I can do about this...🕺 🕺 And yeah, a lady told me over the phone yesterday that I'm definitely not the only one they failed to notify or the only one complaining. She even said people are suing them.🤦 🤦
And of course, I went ahead and switched to the Allstate preferred list... for $22...

Back in May or June, most people were getting notices in the mail. They were citing some new law that hasn't even actually passed yet, basically telling everyone they needed to either sign off on a policy for $30 (which leaves out the B-list stuff) or just cancel their coverage entirely.
I’m honestly not sure what happens if you just ignore the notice and don't send anything back.
I never got a notice myself, and since my policy is expiring soon, I'm not planning on renewing with Cisco anyway. Allstate offers the B-list option, though they do have age limits based on how old you are.
I know a few people who got the notice but didn't bother sending back their consent for $30, and nothing has happened to them so far—maybe it's just because we're in the middle of the new insurance year.

If your policy runs through July 2017, did they just let it lapse once the new year kicked in?🤔

How do you mean—the new year starts and they just cancel the policy???... A lady from the United States told me, quite distraught, that she emailed a screenshot showing—get this—that her request to cancel the policy was sent on July 7th, but it wasn't actually canceled until July 22nd... and all of this happened without my knowledge or any way to respond... while I was under the foolish impression that I still had supplemental coverage..
All in all, it's incredibly unprofessional and frankly quite ugly behavior from such a massive company.

Hi there, I would really appreciate it if someone could reach out to me privately. I had an incredibly frustrating experience today regarding my American insurance (B-tier plan) which I've held since July 2014... Basically, WITHOUT ANY NOTICE, > my policy was just canceled. Apparently, the B-tier plan doesn't even exist anymore, and the company just terminated the contract on their own without letting me know...
This morning at the CVS pharmacy, both the pharmacist and I were caught completely off guard... and my wallet suffered too... Because of this total lack of respect for customers, I ended up having to pay out of pocket for a life-saving medication $117....
The customer service reps at the call center didn't even have an answer as to why the policy was canceled, even though my supplemental card shows it should be valid until July 2017
So, everyone, please be careful

Hi there,
I’m looking for a reliable rheumatologist in the Miami area or somewhere nearby—it’s for my child, so I’m hoping to find someone good quite soon.

Once you finally kick all those exhausting, fake, and toxic people to the curb, you’ll notice a whole new crowd of actual decent humans starting to show up. 🙂 I’ve definitely felt that shift myself—it’s something I’ve seen happen to plenty of my own friends and acquaintances too.

Sure, you might still run into some unpleasant types from time to time, but they won’t stick around for long.

Personally, I don't think this post is really about life transitions; it feels more like it's about personality.
For as long as I can remember, I haven't really trusted people—or, to put it better, I tend to take everything they say with a grain of salt. It’s actually something I learned over time; growing up with parents and family members who occasionally let me down or broke their word really encouraged this sense of distrust to develop.
It's just how a person learns to be cautious and, well, simply not trust easily. Some people close to me find this very offensive, and in some ways, they have a point, but in other ways, I think I'm just using my skepticism as a way to protect myself.
Besides, I believe trust is something that has to be earned. That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with being a "positive" person.
Dealing with Osteomyelitis in Health ·
Douglas Doyle3 said:Hi there, I was wondering if anyone knows about effective treatments for osteomyelitis (staph infections)?

I haven't checked this thread in quite a while—but as I mentioned last summer regarding my father's really difficult situation, there's still a little bit of hope for those suffering...
Even though the infection had progressed quite a bit, my dad is still with us and hasn't had to undergo an amputation. Because he had to stay in bed for such a long period, the wound actually closed up (it used to be an open sore on his foot about the size of an average palm)...
Now, I suppose proper treatment is highly personalized, since it really depends on how far the disease has progressed. From what I've seen, doctors usually prescribe antibiotics after taking a culture from the wound, but unfortunately, the bacteria seems to be becoming more resistant all the time...
I also know that silver-infused bandages seemed to help him quite a bit.

I hope this information might be useful to you...
Wage garnishments and collections in Law ·
I spoke with an attorney from the Hanžeković firm today (he was actually quite surprised at how I tracked him down—I was routed through their Miami branch)—and apparently, on August 21st, my father, who is 100% disabled, was served with a court order for a collection that had already gone into effect on the 19th. It’s regarding some old debt owed to Comcast for the period of July through December 2003, totaling $558. Since he wasn't even living in the apartment at the time—though he still owns the property and has moved several times since then—we’ve repeatedly filed appeals against these court orders and the law firm's actions.
Well, here we are, finally facing the music. Even though his subscription rate was slashed by 50% due to his disability status, the interest has piled up so much that it’s absolutely gutting his social security checks.
Fortunately, I stayed on the line because that polite attorney let me know this isn't the end of it. He informed me that, as part of this "exclusive" little package, there's yet another Comcast collection coming for the months of January through May 2004!!!!!!!!!!!!! amounting to $660. But, since they are just so incredibly kind and wonderful, they’ve offered to let us pay it off in 10 installments.
I didn't even bother asking anything else; I’m honestly terrified of how long this is going to drag on. My father never officially deregistered his TV service, even though he moved out of Miami back in 1999.
Is any of this even legal??
Dealing with Osteomyelitis in Health ·
So, here’s the situation...
My father has been battling osteomyelitis for 17 years now. It was triggered by an MRSA infection—that notorious hospital-acquired bug. Up until this point, he’s always refused amputation. However, he’s been hospitalized for about a month because we ended up in a situation involving sepsis, with his fever hitting 104 degrees. At first, the doctors weren't quite sure what they were dealing with, but the infection eventually traveled and caused significant kidney damage. He’s completely immobile right now and is in constant, severe pain. We have an operation scheduled for next week—his CRP levels are still incredibly high, around 250—where they’ll have to amputate his leg below the knee.
I don't mean to alarm anyone; I just wanted to share the facts regarding his long-standing struggle with this disease.

..by the way, have you checked your blood sugar levels? Like, both while fasting and after you've been active?? It might be worth a try.. I went through something pretty similar myself, and it turns out I actually had type 2 diabetes.
